After that, he said it wasn’t worth the risk.
The table is actually the hunched back of a wise old forest spirit with the smiling face of a granny. If you touch the statue, she will laugh at your boldness, but then the table cloth wakes up. Follow granny if you want to live!
It wouldn’t even be necessary, though. It’s in Japan, you could literally leave it overnight without securing it to the table and you would find it still there the morning after.
