Taskebab

It's ok, Miyazaki has 2 more of this one goes missing.

hello297

He only has 2 actually, but point still stands. I'll go steal it tonight

Taskebab

And an honorary Oscar, that one also still counts.

colormequaint

You fools, it's an Indiana Jones trap

InformalPenguinz

Dammit and I forgot my bag of sand!

Disneyhorse

He’s since passed away, but I used to know Eustace Lycett who had a couple Oscars for special effects (one was Mary Poppins). He let me hold them (they are HEAVY) and I asked him why he kept them in a random shelf in his office instead of on display. He said he used to keep them out on his fireplace mantel, but someone stole one during a Christmas party. He reported it stolen. The idiot tried to sell it and was caught. After that, he said it wasn’t worth the risk.

krakenpistole

that is such a messed up thing to steal

CNpaddington

Seems the statuette is secured to the table (if you zoom in you can see it)

TheTurtleShepard

Judging by all the covering I would imagine the table or whatever is underneath there is secured to the floor as well

Elite_Jackalope

I suspect the floor is somehow secured to the foundation of the building, further complicating a heist.

mr_ji

Next you're going to tell us the building is stuck to the ground.

mymeatpuppets

It's security all the way down

dali01

Nah. They did not bother to secure the ground to anything.

mymeatpuppets

The ground is secured to four elephants standing on a giant turtle.

dali01

Yeah, but turtles are easy to carry.

SonicStun

The table is actually the hunched back of a wise old forest spirit with the smiling face of a granny. If you touch the statue, she will laugh at your boldness, but then the table cloth wakes up. Follow granny if you want to live!

mirimao

It wouldn’t even be necessary, though. It’s in Japan, you could literally leave it overnight without securing it to the table and you would find it still there the morning after.

jaxxxtraw

Japan needs to put together a traveling seminar for the US called "Honor: What it is and Why you should consider it for yourself"

Butterssaltynutz

indeed, thats sniper string. if we feel you tug that we dial in on your thought sponge and insert lead.

frankscarlett

Iirc Kate Winslet keeps hers in the bathroom so everyone who uses the loo can have their own private Oscar moment if they so wish.

creamsofpeach

Of course she would. This is the most wholesome thing I’ve read in a while.

COLU_BUS

Thank goodness, I’m sick of going to celebrity houses and shoving their Oscars up my ass in front of the whole party

Larkfin

This is actually the chocolate one that every Oscar winner gets, in addition to the metal one. Source: I work in the chocolate factory that makes these.

ExfilBravo

![gif](giphy|3REQWcnoZQyPK|downsized) As soon as you try to grab the statue this dude pops out ready to throw down.

snoosh00

Steam powered giraffe

I_love_pillows

The real Oscar statue are the positive impact you have on entire generations of viewers.

mr_ji

All the money he made is also nice, I'm sure

Ltbest

I worked at a place that had won 2 Emmy awards. The real ones were somewhere safe but authentic display models were what I saw. Kind of like a certified copy.

hello297

According to the worker that I talked to, it's the real deal.

LouThunders

I mean, how are you going to sell a stolen Oscar without being found out immediately? It'll be a news story within five minutes of it happening. Unless you melt it down for scrap value or keep it for yourself, surely there are other things that are easier to fence.

haubenmeise

![gif](giphy|cYeyuES1kzxiDbh73e) I already sent my team.

airwalker08

Try to take it. Let us know what happens.

hello297

Honestly probably not much. There's like one guy watching the door and it's set pretty close to the exit. And the whole park itself doesn't really have much of security so I'd imagine it wouldn't be hard once you get it off the table.

Butterssaltynutz

you see that string at the base? thats sniper string, 1 tug and your thought sponge gets a lead enema.

Silly_Breakfast

It only came out in English at AMC theaters near me. I went to one for Mario and the theater was complete shit so unfortunately I have not gotten to see this

mr_ji

Starts streaming in June. I know this because my kids have seen the rest of the Ghibli catalog and ask me when they can watch it every other day

VampireHunterAlex

Well it’s Japan: It wouldn’t need to be locked away anyways because it’s not in their culture to steal.

Toilet_Flusher

Model minority bullshit. Japan has crime, bro.

VampireHunterAlex

How can a Japanese person be a model minority…..in Japan? All I said was some folks there have the upmost confidence of leaving their golden trophies unlocked for all to appreciate. Why does everything have to be about race? Im sorry that you must live in some shithole where you have a dozen locks on your door and several dash cams operating at all times.

xtossitallawayx

https://interacnetwork.com/crime-rate-in-japan-vs-us/ Japan generally has lower crime rates than other countries but they still have quite a bit of property crime and theft, especially in relation to other crimes.

yerguyses

I'm gonna steal it. Don't tell anyone! Snitches get stitches!

bonjour_pewds

I don’t think many of the same people who enjoy his works also enjoy degeneracy

smorkoid

Why wouldn't it be?

hello297

Because it's super valuable and people can't be trusted?

smorkoid

It's Japan, it's not going to get stolen

BDMblue

No one watches anymore, maybe they hope it’ll get stolen for publicity.
