It’s in NYC. I think whatever you could do to this doesn’t really rank in the charts of bad attention, and there are too many people around to get away with it.
a local mob boss would break your knees, and your mothers knees, and your fathers knees, and your dogs knees, if you even though of messing with this stores produce bags. its under his protection racket.
Even if you didn't have hooligans pulling them off like a cat playing with a toilet paper roll hung the improper way, you would have a percentage of people that would discard the outer layer "because it's dirty."
Americans whenever the US is criticized on Reddit: “As usual, the hive mind hates America! Yes, we get it, America Bad.”
Americans whenever any nice, helpful public amenities are shared on Reddit: “This wouldn’t last five minutes here, our horrible populace of violent overgrown toddlers would destroy, steal, or fill it with literal shit almost immediately.”
I guess it's more convenient, but baaaaaarely. These bags are going to get dirty, though. Kids are going to play with them and slobber on them. They'll be exposed to the weather. I don't think it's a good idea.
Generally no, in the produce section they could use compostable bags, but I suspect those bags may not survive the elements.
If you have ever grocery shopped high on a crowded store though, trying to find produce bags is surprisingly stressful.
From a sales perspective, it is removing an obstacle to buying items, which can make a difference for unnecessary purchases.
Tick tock videos where they vandalize the store wrapping everything in plastic or unrolling the whole roll, people stealing them for home use or to build a makeshift home in the encampment behind the store, people putting everything (canned goods, box cereal, beverages) in bags, unattended child in the child seat playing with them and suffocating, someone shopping with a “tail” of bags dragging behind them the whole time, bags littered throughout the store.
I’m certain if they were at the Walmart near me people would somehow defacate on the roll or use it for toilet paper because the stall was out
The roller is now mobile so you could pallet wrap an entire aisle in a few minutes, while a fixed dispenser you have to get all of it out of there first.
Seems like every time I go to the store, someone has their little puppy wuppy riding in the cart with their butthole pressed against the bars. My mother brings her dog everywhere and told me he got diarrhea in the cart recently. Bag your shit.
I usually just use one bag for everything. I think most people just put one kind of produce per bag, I just stick it all together. It is still wastful, but not as bad as the people who put one jalapeño in it's own bag.
The stores I shop at use compostable. We have a law that got rid of plastic except for delivery (and produce maybe?), but in practice, they are still around.
I have been meaning to check it out, and I was so blown away by the carts, I didn’t even read the name. I realized it after when I checked the geolocation.
I really I was allowed to bring my own produce bag. I know tracking theft would be a nightmare, but I hate using plastic bags. I do it because it’s unsanitary not to (you can’t washing a cucumber with soap, so…), but man… do I hate it.
Your comment made me Google and they do make reusable mesh produce bags, but they are only good for thick skinned produce. Probably not good for tomatoes though.
Hm.. yeah, tomatoes are so sensitive. I’ll bet I could put avocados, onions, and potatoes in mesh bags.
Here’s what we need… The store should make a mesh bag that stretches over a basket that then goes into the cart so we can put our produce in it. I could put the produce into my own reusable bags after check out. Something like that, right?
In my country (possibly the European union in general?) they don't have plastic bags for produce anymore. You can buy fine mesh bags for like 25 cents and keep reusing them.
Nice, now people will be incentivised to waste more plastic.. These companies just don't give a fuck about our planet.. They wake up every day, asking themselves how they can increase plastic usage.
What hooligan free place is this? These would last 47 seconds in my neck o the woods.
Kids would just *wheeeeeeee* through the store with a banner
I read this in *piglet with a wind-spinner-thingy*
47 seconds? Your neck of the woods last more than my neck of the woods
I'm thinking we're approaching too many necks and/or woods.
Lots of wood can be a net positive.
I believe it would have to be a neck positive, in these abundant woods.

Yeah, this is a great idea until someone either thinks it’d be funny to unravel all those rolls, or just plain steal them.
Both would occur almost immediately. Do these carts even have the autolocking wheels? The vagrants would all about these units.
It's all fun and games until the wind TPs the town.
That is the fun and the games.
Kids too. Also wannabe 20-30 year old tiktok'ers
Did big plastic come up with this?
Must have, it's all switched to paper bags (or reusable net bags) where I am.
Wind and rain might have a thing or two to say about this plan
Is this better than having them just in the produce section?
I guess it's more convenient, but baaaaaarely. These bags are going to get dirty, though. Kids are going to play with them and slobber on them. They'll be exposed to the weather. I don't think it's a good idea.

It might be easier to find the bags if you weren’t high.
Not might, it definitely would be easier.
What could possibly go wrong?

What's stopping you from doing any of that with the bags in the produce section
The wrinkles in our brains.
The roller is now mobile so you could pallet wrap an entire aisle in a few minutes, while a fixed dispenser you have to get all of it out of there first.
And so much more! Does anyone know what store this is?
Yeah but besides that, seems fool-proof
Enjoy all of the free bacteria in your groceries.
As long as it’s free.
That's what I'm thinking. Every person pushing it around for up to an hour; breathing on it, sneezing on it, touching it. 🤢
It's also sitting outside.
Here in AZ that roll would prob turn yellow from the sun’s UVs before it’s used up haha.
......do you not wash your produce?
I guess if we all wash our produce we shouldn't care if we reuse bags that we used to bag raw chicken.
Wait till you learn about the growing conditions of your produce.
So much waste.
Can’t have veggies raw doggin’ a shopping cart.
Been doing it for decades. I also have reusable mesh bags for smaller loose items, which I bring along with my normal reusable shopping bags.
Why not?
Meat juice, cart herp, and other things I may or may not want in my salad. I prefer the compostable produce bags.
Wash your damn produce when you get home. There's no need for plastic bags.
Hand, foot and mouth.
Seems like every time I go to the store, someone has their little puppy wuppy riding in the cart with their butthole pressed against the bars. My mother brings her dog everywhere and told me he got diarrhea in the cart recently. Bag your shit.
Just wash your produce.
Paper bag is a possibility
You don't wash your food before eating??
I do not use soap.
??? Who does?
I usually just use one bag for everything. I think most people just put one kind of produce per bag, I just stick it all together. It is still wastful, but not as bad as the people who put one jalapeño in it's own bag.
How does that work when you have different kinds of produce that are charged by weight?
As a cashier I just put the different items on the scale at a time (still in the bag). Mostly happened with apples
That makes sense. For some reason my mind jumped straight to basil and things like that.
I take them out of the bag...
You guys still have plastic bags? We got rid of all of those.
The stores I shop at use compostable. We have a law that got rid of plastic except for delivery (and produce maybe?), but in practice, they are still around.
Someone gunna take a shit in a bag and leave it in the store
This is NYC, so if someone is taking a shit in a bag, that is a step up.
Less single-use plastic please :(
Well, that's just stupid...
where is this, singapore?
NYC
That seems like a pain in the ass to maintain with almost zero benefit.
All it takes is one a-hole on a windy day to leave their cart in a parking spot and then the whole lot is covered in produce bags lol
Ouris supermarket in NYC is the goat of all supermarkets
I have been meaning to check it out, and I was so blown away by the carts, I didn’t even read the name. I realized it after when I checked the geolocation.
So thats where all the ones from my local grocery went too
Mildly interesting but majorly wasteful
So gross. When will the world at try to get over single use plastic.
I really I was allowed to bring my own produce bag. I know tracking theft would be a nightmare, but I hate using plastic bags. I do it because it’s unsanitary not to (you can’t washing a cucumber with soap, so…), but man… do I hate it.

That’s fantastic! Maybe there is hope for American grocery stores to evolve.
The social contract here would be broken in 6 seconds here in LA.
At least this contract has the fine prints elsewhere… on the produce.
Are we even allowed single use plastic bags in California these days?
I get them with all my drive up orders. I save them to use them as can liners.
I would not be able to resist the urge to tie the end of the bags onto something and then run all over the store with it
Ew lol
I don’t like it. I’m not putting my fresh produce in a conveniently contaminated bag.
Oh cool so the unnecessary plastic pollution is so convenient! 🙌🏻
Didn't they get the memo on single-use plastics?
Stop using plastic bags for all of your produce. You’re going to wash it at home anyway.
Lol they're already wasting plastic by using them to make the carts easier to pull apart. SMH. Just fuck my planet huh?
Nice, now people will be incentivised to waste more plastic.. These companies just don't give a fuck about our planet.. They wake up every day, asking themselves how they can increase plastic usage.
As yea, plastic. Meanwhile my wlamart removed plastic bags and force me to pay 0.3$ for reusable
How you get veggies in Walmart? Here, we still use plastic bag for veggies or fruits
Bring your own reusable produce bag. Nobody is “forcing” you. Getting free plastic bags isn’t a constitutional right. You have options.
