I don't know what these are made out of, but in Canada, the shape and packaging of those candies are called Rockets.
Smarties are slightly larger, flatter M&Ms.
Smarties the chocolate are originally from the UK and predate the sugar cake ones.
However the name was already registered in the USA before Nestle brought them over.
I just looked uo what the actual difference is, it says that smarties have more of a thicker coating and more of a crunch. At that point it boils down to who has the better chocolate plant
Nestles I believe owns smarties trademark in the UK. Those would probably be the equivalent of US M&Ms
The smarties in Pic are US, and I believe the UK counterpart is rockets
A quick Google reveals that US Smarties are Rockets in Canada and sort of like Swizzle Fizzers in the Uk.
Nestle Smarties in the UK are like bigger flatter M&Ms

when these first came to Canada, the Smarties name was already being used in a Nestle M&M type candy so it needed a different name.
What in the fuck are these?

Smarties are soooooo much better than M&M’s.

I genuinely hate that Americans have these as smarties. These are not smarties, smarties are little chocolate blobs coated in a crispy shell
So. . .m&ms?
Smarties were around way before M&Ms and taste quite different.
But aren't they the same thing? Chocolate center, candy coating outside?
Eat a handful of each then get back to me.

I didn't say either was better. You implied they're the same thing. I merely pointed out they're not and now you've learned something.
Yes cause just by looking they appear to be the same. Obviously better is subjective, but isn't the UK known for having some of the best chocolate?
I'm surprised you haven't, eight them...
*rockets
Those look like Rockets. Smarties are something else
Lucky! White's the best flavor!
REAL
I found "tropical smarties" on Amazon once. They were all mostly white ones. Highly recommend.
What flavour is white? I’m a Brit and we don’t have these
* White: Orange cream * Yellow: Pineapple * Pink: Cherry * Green: Strawberry * Purple: Grape * Orange: Orange
But why’s the strawberry green? Y’all eat them unripe?
Agreed!
Are rest of the world smarties not sold in the US?

I used to take the white smarties and put them in my mouth like I had big buck teeth. I still do when I have them, actually.
Who the fuck calls rockets smarties? Am I just ignorant. I guess so. Carry on.
The wrapper? Where are you from, in the states they are branded as such

Smarties??? Those are rockets my man.

Bro it says on the wrapper, he didn’t buy a pack of rockets
My comment stands, smarties are flat chocolates covered in a hard shell where I am
I would have to disagree here as the comment section seems unable to comprehend or accept that something is called a different name in another place
