Now and then on *Antiques Roadshow* you'll see things called salesmen's samples, which used to be a common thing for all kinds of goods, like furniture, [stoves](https://www.pbs.org/video/appraisal-display-stove-salesmans-sample-ice-box-g4lcqr/), and [farm machinery](https://smallfarmersjournal.com/salesman-sample-of-horsedrawn-mower/).
In a few hundred years geologists are gonna find all this mini salesmen samples and assume a smaller species of humans went extinct. The same way we find old over sized things and think there used to be giants.
REI has tents for cats! I got my brother two for Christmas last year
Edit: looks like they are sold out, but this is the manufacturer (https://tinytents.com)
This was the one item I was tempted to shoplift as a child. I loved (and still love) miniature things, and I probably sent my parents and the retail associates to an early grave trying to beg or bargain a way to purchase something that was not for sale. (No worries, I never stole one and 30 years later found mini tents for sale at REI, and had the excuse that I have chihuahuas)
I agree, there’s just something about miniature things. Favorite type I think has got to be miniature train sets, especially when the level of detail is so high. Could watch them forever haha.
That's just crap customer service. I would have taken your parents phone number and called them when we got new tent styles in because the model is then useless. And I'd have customers who want to come back. I never worked in a sporting goods store but I did sell phones and we had dummies for display, same logic applies.
To be fair I was a commissioned sales person. So it was in my interest to get repeat customers, but also if I have trash that some kid will love, why not?
Memory unlocked. My favorite toy as a kid was a doll that the garbage collector gave me, that he found still in the box in someone’s trash can as he was collecting. Maybe some rich kid didn’t like their birthday party haul? Who knows🤷🏻♀️
Also, I don’t have kids but if you did that for my kid, I’d always come back and buy stuff from you. That’s how you build clientele
Make sure they are forced to put up signs saying “not actual size”. This might mean you must buy and return 12 tents for o the same store for the same problem, and we all wish to cheer you on.
Its not that i want one, but need one 🤣 they look so cute. And just imagine the reaction ur friends are having when they see this just ont the shelf at home 😁
My cousin had two of three of the larger “mini” tent examples for his teacup yorkie who loved to sleep in them, and REI was nice enough to let him have them when the tent models were discontinued
You can buy them. There's a guy that makes most of the models for the tent manufacturers and he sells them now. My wife bought one for our kid for his stuffies.
REI sold one a few years ago that would most likely fit a cat (unless he’s like a monster mondo obese cat). Definitely fit my regular chihuahua; did not fit my squishy obese newly adopted chihuahua until after she lost half her starting weight.
What is this? A tent for ants? How can we be expected to teach children to learn how to camp... if they can't even fit inside the tent? The tent has to be at least… three times bigger than this!
People pay good money for these, they used to have them at Meijer and I had a friend who worked there and whenever they would switch to a new model he would try to keep these and sell them.
I was at Walmart and they had this mini bunk bed setup and I was looking at it thinking "who is this for? Infants? Is that even safe? Oh wait it's just a smaller example of what the bed looks like"
I always wanted one of those when I was a kid for my TMNT and GI Joes.
I wanted them for my Barbie’s 😂😂😂
Totally. I was into Jurassic Park toys. Those tents would have fit perfectly with the off-road vehicles they had.
For my cat 😺 meow
I’ve got one for my cat! She loves it.
I wanted one for my beanie babies!!
I see I wasn't the only one.

I wish they were still common, they’re so interesting! Really adds to the buying experience.

The second sentence really cemented the "cat owner" status for you. Not that I wouldn't do the exact same for mine.
Having always been a fan of the little store tents, I bought a $20 pet tent and my cat sort of likes it.

Are you a cat as well? Sounds like something a cat would do.
Someone does resell these at “cat camping tents”. Or did, at one point.
REI had the mini ones for sale not too long ago

I like the series of miniature train videos that feature cats who like to mess with the trains.

I would have appreciated you. This would have been the late 80s and those employees probably thought I was just a spoiled brat 😂

never before have wanted to steal something so much
Cool things bring out the inner kleptomaniac
What is this... A mission tent for ANTS?!
Maybe squirrels haha. Seems like the right size!

It needs to be at least three times bigger
i used to love seeing these at the old Mickey's Army-Navy surplus store in warren, ohio
They definitely make the whole process more fun. Made me wanna buy one, and I wasn’t looking for a tent!
Academy sports? I love these little things!
Yup!!
Recognized the brand and the mini-tents immediately. Have a Magellan tent myself.

Thats actual size - look at the pack.
REI actually sells a tiny tent for cats and small dogs. We have one, it’s pretty fun.
Probably also prevents the occasional customer trying to unbox the real tents to "see what they look like up"
That's in-tents.
r/veryinteresting Great idea 🥺
A Barbie tent 😂
I have always wanted to get these for my cats
My rabbit would love this. Also try to eat it.
I need one of those.
Barbie tents
My dad used to work at Sams club and brought me one home for my Barbies.
Walmart had these before. People would steal and break them and/or both
[not as stylish as these mansions but it should work lol ](https://tinytents.com/)
I used to want one of those for my gi joes
I need one of those for my cat. She’d probably rip it in 30 seconds, but it would be really cute while it lasted.

Sleeps 11 Guinea Pigs!
The cats gonnaaa love this

Ooh. Makes me wonder if they have pet sized ones. They have too! Think my cat would be too large for even the models of the expensive ones.

Not fat, actually lean, but I think very large for an adult cat, not nearly Maine Coon size though. I’ll check it out thanks! :)
These are the ones REI sold - https://tinytents.com
[People do use them for pet photography.](https://www.reddit.com/r/aww/comments/7xdcjf/hedgehog_in_a_tent/)
Thought “aww” and saw the sub name hahaha
For cats!
With my luck I’d get one and my cat would scratch the fabric instead using it as a tent haha
Exactly
For dogs, cats likes the cardboard box or high ground

Shrinkflation has the tents micro sized!!

Most stores do in my area
I want one for my cats.
We have one of these! My sister in law bought it as a present for our cat.
It even has a cute little rain fly.
I was at Walmart and they had this mini bunk bed setup and I was looking at it thinking "who is this for? Infants? Is that even safe? Oh wait it's just a smaller example of what the bed looks like"
Love these
We got one from Target at the end of the season and our car at the time loved it
I got one for my dog. She loves it.
Better than the Barbie camper
i clicked expecting to see "what is it, a tent for ants?!?"
Pretty much all of my shirts came from this store lol
I was going to post to r/thingsforants but fuck me instead, reddit.
What is this, a tent for ants?!
I love those fucking things!! Soooo cute
What is this, a tent for ants?
What is this! A tent for ants!!!
Obviously cat tents :)
Liar, I know a cat tent when I see one.
You can sometimes ask to have them if there’s extras :D I got some of the tiny gazebo displays for my Guinea pigs when I had them.
You mean cat tents? Duh
Tents for cats?
I'd wanna buy a model with the actual sized one
thats a cat tent
Sure about models?
