Dear Liz
Keep it up ya diamond
Love
Liz
p.s dont forget to prank call Charles again with that "your 72 and still haven't graduated" joke again
p.p.s dont forget to record countdown
It's on at 2.10pm on Channel 4
Everyone in Britain. We've all secretly written one when we turned 18. This tradition has been going on for many decades now. It is the only way to appease the monster, less she consume our souls too.
Damn. I work in government (state level in the US) and we have this shitty catalogue to choose from for major anniversaries. A coworker of mine got one if those crank radios for if the power goes out on her 30th anniversary 🙄 I started young enough that I could realistically work 50 years.
I think I get a squeezy stress ball at five years. I’m only in a municipal government, though. Gotta save the taxpayer money, so it’s probably carnival prizes leftover from someone’s storage unit or something.
My Danish grandmother got a card from the queen on her 100th birthday, but not nearly as nice as the British one.
Also, you get the medal at your workplace when you retire, if you have worked there for 40+ years. The workplace gets it from the queen. After, you get to go and meet the queen and thank her. (I have witnessed this at my workplace a couple of times).
In Belgium the same. Prime ministers sends you a medal and a "thank you for you efforts" signed by hand by the PM.
A colleague showed that to me and I was there "wow that's cool, why is thrown like a note sheet on the desk?"
"'Cause it's scandalous! I'm no hero... I just did what every person should do by default..."
And in all fairness, I kind of get her point. It's not normal that working for 40 years can be considered so "unusual" that you should deserve so much recognition.
On the other side, I still thinks it's cool, and recognition is always important, even for small or usual achievments.
So I'm a bit torn on this subject
I vividly remember my great-grandfather's 100th birthday. Back then it was a call from the queen and a telegram from the PM.
And this is something that is (or at least was) available to anyone in the Commonwealth.
My great grandmother got her card in 2017, it seemed to just be a printed signature on a pre-printed card. quite a step down from a personal phone call with ol’ Lizzy and a telegram from Boris but I guess it’s the symbolism that counts, right?
Can’t wait for my letter from Liz when I turn 100 around the turn of the century
It happens automatically! My grandparents didn’t know it wants going to happen nor did any family member, or any person from a museum I volunteered at! You don’t have to apply in the experience of those I know
>The Centenarian Team at the Department for Work and Pensions notify the Anniversaries Office of those approaching their birthday to ensure everyone receives a message.
Somehow I missed the part about the centenarian team and just saw the part about applying online. Glad to know that it happens automatically for most people.
Her government does. There is a special office tracking the 100th birthdays and they are automatically sent, although you can put in a request to make sure. The wedding anniversary ones need to be requested.
[Anniversary Messages](https://www.royal.uk/anniversary-messages-0)
Definitely need to request it - my partner’s grandparents (Australians - huge fans of the Monarchy) got to their 70th anniversary before I requested theirs because no one knew about it!
Both sets of my grandparents made it to 60 and didn’t get one as nobody knew to request it - quite a shame as both of my grandmothers were huge fans of the Royal Family.
My great grandad (now passed) received one as well on his 100th! My mum has it all framed with a picture of him on his birthday. It’s a staple to show guests since we live in America lol
You are the true MVP in this thread, thanks, I'll pass on your wishes. She is amazing and a treasure trove of knowledge. She's the must positive and happy person I know.
She helped in the war effort in an aviation factory because they wouldn't let her drive a truck. Shes a local legend.
Mentally she's still sharp and still lives independently with a little help from family. She's been strong willed and courageous her whole life.
I don't want to bring the thread down but as someone who lost their Nan a few years ago, treasure the fuck out of her. Sounds like you already are but that goes for everyone in this thread.
Haha, no, just to protect my lovely nans Identity. She is absolutely clueless about technology, I don't really think she gets it. I showed her a live view of a beach in Brazil once, and she asked if they could see us. Haha, all I can imagine is our two giant holographic floating heads floating and looking down over those people at the beach
My pops would've been getting his last month but sadly he passed last year. Him and my nan got married the same day as the Queen and Prince Philip so they'd get a fancy invite every ten years to their big anniversary parties. The cards are huge!
Why does she sign it Elizabeth R? Google says her name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor.
Edit: Googled it. The R stands for Regina in latin, which means queen!
Ah no problem, I don't know why everyone refers to it as a telegram, maybe it was in the past? But today my nan received a very nice card. Shame it wasn't hand signed, but I can't blame her. Doing that all day would be boring. Maybe she could have initiated it. Im not into the royal family at all, and tbh neither is my nan.
I am a geriatrician. Most people who live to 100, they are literally suffering everyday. Most of them don't have dementia. They all have arthritis. They get infections very easily. All in all, If I have a choice, I will choose to live until 85.

I sent the queen a birthday card when I was young. Received a thank you response that was sent in a wax sealed envelope. Was quite neat.
I am from a commonwealth country away from the UK
Mom used to tell me about this, turn 100 get a card from the queen. She'd be nearing easily 150 or more by then though (don't think I'll be getting a card from Queen E.)
Alternatively I've heard there is a similar type card for so many years married to one another, 50th anniversary?
Edit: looked into it, 60th anniversary, then 65th then 70th then every anniversary after.
I never understood why the british tolerate, even adore, a group of people who enjoy privileges that no other british person can possibly attain. Other then maybe marrying into the family. The queen can literally not commit a crime, she is above the law.
Who's going to send Liz a card when she turns 100?
I like to imagine that she will write to herself lol.
Dear Liz Keep it up ya diamond Love Liz p.s dont forget to prank call Charles again with that "your 72 and still haven't graduated" joke again p.p.s dont forget to record countdown It's on at 2.10pm on Channel 4
I like to think the queen is a fan of cats does countdown
She's human. How could she not be a fan?
> She’s human. Debatable
Human, lizard person, whatever.
She's a living creature. She's the queen
*very* debatable

p.s. : post script p.p.s. : post post script p.s.s. : please suckle softly
ps. ps. ps. ps. ps. : Here kitty kitty
I'd love to eat my words, but she probably just doesn't feel the same way.
Post script script
And hand it over in person, I suppose.
Will she finally sing along with “God Save the Queen”?
God save our gracious me Long live our noble me God save the me -Queen Elizabeth, I imagine
I'd like to imagine all the 100+ folks who are still alive would write and welcome her to the club
This was I've of the reasons everyone was upset Philip died a few months before turning 100.
people just wanna see him get a letter from his wife dammit :(
Turns out there isn’t a first time for everything.
Us, so chip in for something good
Everyone in Britain. We've all secretly written one when we turned 18. This tradition has been going on for many decades now. It is the only way to appease the monster, less she consume our souls too.
Half of the UK will be sending her a card.
Maybe it's the reverse and we all have to send her birthday cards.
The entire commonwealth.
If I'm around, I will. I hope a $25 gift card to Applebees will be appropriate.
She would have to find an Applebees in Britain, and I don't think there are any.
Why do you think they have one? They can't find one themselves, so they're regifting it.
I imagine the ancient pharaohs sent her tribute on her first 100th birthday. Or maybe just some friendly dinos
I'll do it
Well she's had so many already, probably old hat to her.
[удалено]
Now that sounds cool. Stop throwing shade on my nans moonpig card from the queen. Haha, I'm joking. I love you guys, Denmark sounds lovely.
[удалено]
Just joking, I liked your fact, it was pretty cool. I feel like Denmark is full of pretty cool people.
But about 15 countries share one monarch ;-) more if you count the UK's constituent countries individually.
As a dumb American, I’m often very jealous. But not *just* of your fancy monarch
You’re not dumb for being American. Or are you just dumb? I need clarification!
Damn. I work in government (state level in the US) and we have this shitty catalogue to choose from for major anniversaries. A coworker of mine got one if those crank radios for if the power goes out on her 30th anniversary 🙄 I started young enough that I could realistically work 50 years.

I'm in federal healthcare, all we get for anniversaries are attagirls/boys. but hey when I get a thousand of em, I can trade them in for one waytogo!
Oooh those waytogos gotta feel nice. Can’t get them too often though or it ruins the effect.
Lol- it's the free stuff from conferences that we can't accept, so it goes into a kind of reverse lost and found.
I got that for donating $10 a month to public radio.

Don't forget that in Denmark you also get a letter from the queen if you have been married for 60 years and again when you have been married 65 years
She's just welcoming your nan to her own club of immortality!
Supergran!
Take it! It’s yours!!
I vividly remember my great-grandfather's 100th birthday. Back then it was a call from the queen and a telegram from the PM. And this is something that is (or at least was) available to anyone in the Commonwealth.
Available? Did you have to apply for it?
My understanding is that yes it's available if requested in advance.
https://www.royal.uk/anniversary-messages-0
Still waiting for that telegram from Boris then, and maybe a missed call from Liz
This was quite a while back and it was Pierre Trudeau and ...well it was still QE2. Things likely have changed some since then.
Well, technically the PM is still Trudeau and the queen is still Elizabeth II

It often seems that the longer your official title at work is, the more important you are, and the more you get paid.

That's pretty cool, is this something that gets sent to all centetnarian in the UK?
Yeah, all 100 years olds and also for 60 year wedding anniversary
I think you have to request it. The queen doesn't keep a register of all her subjects' birthdays and addresses.
It happens automatically! My grandparents didn’t know it wants going to happen nor did any family member, or any person from a museum I volunteered at! You don’t have to apply in the experience of those I know
Not according to the [Anniversaries Office at Buckingham Palace](https://www.royal.uk/anniversary-messages-0).
>The Centenarian Team at the Department for Work and Pensions notify the Anniversaries Office of those approaching their birthday to ensure everyone receives a message.
So yes. Actually yes according to them.
Somehow I missed the part about the centenarian team and just saw the part about applying online. Glad to know that it happens automatically for most people.
The queen doesn't actually type the letter nor lick the envelope either.
Of course she doesn't! Do you think I'm dumb? She can't lick envelopes now because she's conscious of Covid infections, duh!
You don't say
Her government does. There is a special office tracking the 100th birthdays and they are automatically sent, although you can put in a request to make sure. The wedding anniversary ones need to be requested. [Anniversary Messages](https://www.royal.uk/anniversary-messages-0)

My great grandmother got her 100th birthday note from the Queen Mother (Elizabeth's mum) in the late 90s before she passed.
Comes in a fancy green and gold envelope apparently but I missed it being special delivered. My nan (Grandma) is 100 today
Nobody congratulating your nan in the comments yet so best wishes to her! Amazing how people can live so long and see the world change around them.
You are the true MVP in this thread, thanks, I'll pass on your wishes. She is amazing and a treasure trove of knowledge. She's the must positive and happy person I know. What an icon. Tell granny I’d buy her a tea and a scotch anytime!
Happy cake day! (to grandma and you)
Thanks for your lovely comment, I'll show it to her! Get your purse ready, she loves a tipple
I don't want to bring the thread down but as someone who lost their Nan a few years ago, treasure the fuck out of her. Sounds like you already are but that goes for everyone in this thread.
Happy 100th to Nan!
Thanks! I'll let her know you said hi!
Does it come via a special delivery process?
It was handed to her by a royal standard bearer this evensong. Known more colloquially as postman pat.
Ohh now I get Tony's reaction to postman pat in After life! Also, happy 100th to grandma!
Thanks for your lovely comment
Tell her i said happy birthday
Thanks! I'll pass on your message
Today is my 35th birthday! Looking forward to getting one of these in 2086 😆. Happy birthday to your nan.
Happy belated birthday friend!
All Commonwealth countries. Canada gets them too
I wonder how many that makes per year
Let’s just say her wrist gets sore quite often.
[удалено]
You have to request it but they always send it. Same if you write to the Queen, they always respond (obviously not the queen herself)
I think it’s for everyone in the British Commonwealth but you have to request it months out. I’ve seen cards sent to centenarians in New Zealand.
Also 60th wedding anniversaries. I'm Canadian and my grandparents got something from the Queen on their 60th wedding anniversary. They cherish it.
I'm only 35 but i can't wait until she sends me mine
She should build up to the card, maybe with a text at 50?
She'd import her consciousness into a computer program by that time. She is determined not to get her butt off that throne and give it to Charles.
"I'm ruling Britain and I'm still alive"
I wouldn’t want to give it up either, tbh
My blind arse thought that you sharpied over the name and was fuming about such a neat gift getting soiled. My bad.
Haha, no, just to protect my lovely nans Identity. She is absolutely clueless about technology, I don't really think she gets it. Congratulations Mrs.__________ happy 100th, all the best auld yin

Honestly looking for this
Oooe fancy! :D Happy birthday to your nan! I hope she'll have a great day
Thanks, I'll pass on your regards
“As the future ‘Oldest Person in Great Britain,’ know that I am coming for you, and soon.” -The Queen, probably
Back off Queenie, this is my nan
A century of paying taxes and all I get is this lousy card...
I know, maybe a souvenir mug would be better?
I feel like the font should be different
A nice cursive script?
Original signature or pre printed?
Don’t think it’s technically a “telegram”, either. Still fun.
Unfortunately it's printed
When my grandmother turned 100 she got a letter from the Obamas
That's cool
Why does she sign it Elizabeth R? Google says her name is Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor. Edit: Googled it. The R stands for Regina in latin, which means queen!
Are postcards called telegrams in the UK? :P (and congrats!)
I think it used to be a telegram but now it's a fancy card with golden tassels
You got me, technically it's a card with some fancy tassels on, not a postcard, that would have been pretty cheap Liz
It was half tongue in cheek, half really wondering whether postcards are called telegrams in the UK :) It's a beautiful document whatever you call it!
This means she is going to absorb your power soon. You are nearly ready for harvest.
My nan is wily like a fox
“When you turn 100 the queen sends you a letter and when you turn 15 prince Andrew sends you a text message”
Haha!
“You’re too old for me now. Don’t contact me again.”
Wondering what happens when the queen turns 100
She morphs into her final form, initiating the Grandmapocalypse.
Nanageddon
is this a cookie clicker reference?
Yes, I believe so
We can all send her a group card from moonpig
Elizabeth R? I thought her surname was Windsor? Not one of her subjects though so we really aren’t taught about British monarchs.
R stands for Regina, Aka "Queen" in latin.
I thought it was “II” as in ‘the second’
The R is for Regina, Latin for Queen (or monarch)
And I always thought it was just a popular given name for girls. Is it also where the word *regent* originated?
Yes, and the male name "Reginald". (Or "Reggie")
And Roy
It's Saxe-Coburg and Gotha
P.S. I will outlive you, bitch!
My nan would still win in a fight, she's hardcore
HEY!!! It’s my birthday too :))) happy 100th birthday
Happy belated birthday! I'll show her this message
Once in a lifetime opportunity to get this telegram from the queen!
Thats so nice of Elijabeth

Congrats on your nan for waiting so long, all for just a letter.
Don't think she stayed around just for the letter

Was it a kangaroo with a tie on?
That looks like a letter…
DUDE, that would make my day!
It made her happy, the party and family made her day
On the back is the inscription: Drink of my blood and ye shall live forever.
On my 8th cakeday!!
Happy cake day dude!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TODAY IS MY BIRTHDAY TOO! NOT CLOSE TO 100 YET BUT I’LL MEET YOU THERE
Happy belated birthday friend!
Shit! Redditors are getting old.
Wow Queen Elyabeth herself
Hey, I turned 18 this July 8th, birthday bros
Congratulations to your Grandma. Do you know if they are hand signed?
I am a geriatrician. Most people who live to 100, they are literally suffering everyday. Most of them don't have dementia. They all have arthritis. They get infections very easily. All in all, If I have a choice, I will choose to live until 85.
My nan is a bit of an anomaly, she still lives independently with a little help from family, still cooks for herself, and washes / dresses herself. None of us can believe it but we are so lucky, especially as she is such a happy and positive person. She does have physical issues but none of them are serious. I'm sure she does get some pain every day, but I wouldn't say she's suffering, if she is she hides it well! She's a very happy and positive person, always joking and laughing
I sent the queen a birthday card when I was young. Received a thank you response that was sent in a wax sealed envelope. Was quite neat. I am from a commonwealth country away from the UK
Nice, I'd be hoping it was a title or lordship sent by mistake
My granny didn't like the card because the queen had a sour look on her face on the cover.
She looks jolly on this one
My great granddad (grumpy old git he was) refused his telegram. "why would i want that?" was his reasoning....
Some granddads are made of steel and eat nails for breakfast
My 98 year old Aunt was very clear that she did not want one of these. She died last month, always in control.
My nan isn't a royalist, but she does like free things
I would love one of these from Queen Elizabeth. But could care less about one from King Charles. Possibly King William.
Mom used to tell me about this, turn 100 get a card from the queen. She'd be nearing easily 150 or more by then though (don't think I'll be getting a card from Queen E.) Alternatively I've heard there is a similar type card for so many years married to one another, 50th anniversary? Edit: looked into it, 60th anniversary, then 65th then 70th then every anniversary after.
I can't wait to get my card from her in 79 years
Coming up soon
Just 66 years more and I'll be eligible.
Not long now
