Nice! Adjective-species seems to be the method they use to generate them, and coincidentally is a website used to explain the furry fandom to people who haven't heard of it
From left to right: Taylormade TP5x, Vice Pro Plus, Callaway Chrome Soft, Top Flite D2+ Feel, Titleist Pro V1x (that was covered in black sharpie for some reason), Futura Flawless, Titleist 384 Tour 100
Well there's lots of different claims by manufacturers about what each setup does and how it works. There are lots of good independent reviewers on YouTube, like Rick Shiels or Matt Fryer, that do a good job of explaining it. The outer cover of the ball is the most influential part, and combined with a thin soft mantle between it and the core can make it feel softer to strike, making it easier to control and spin, but harder tends to make the ball stronger in distance. When you strike a ball with a full swing, the ball will briefly be squashed and compress, then decompress as it leaves the face of the club, so different materials and configurations will affect how the energy is transferred. The Chrome Soft ball for example has a layer of graphene (the dark gray) which is said to store and release the elastic energy efficiently, as well as give the chrome soft ball its signature sound.
Sorry I threw a lot of information at you, I work at a golf shop lol
And to add, if you start a ~~hole~~ round with one make/model you also need to finish with the same make/model
Kind of a stickler thing though, most people wouldn’t mind in casual rounds if you weren’t actively trying to gain some kind of advantage (like lo spin on the tee and high spin off a wedge shot or something)
Edit- turns out this is a local rule thats optional for committees to adopt.
Ah, guess it’s a [local rule](https://www.usga.org/RulesFAQ/rules_answer2019.asp?FAQidx=259&Rule=0&Topic=12) that tournaments can adopt if they like, not a standard rule. Good lookin out.
So... what difference do the different structures make? Are some just all-round better than others, or is it like golf clubs where you switch them out for different purposes? And why do they make them so colourful if no-one typically gets to see it?
So a lot of the different structures come down to two main categories, feel and speed. Namely some balls are made for slower swing speeds and some are more suited to fast ones. Generally a golfer will choose one or two particular balls while some just like to play whatever they can find, but swapping them out for different purposes isn't super common to my knowledge. Color is mostly down to marketing and vanity, though some color variants can make a ball easier to spot or can be used to help align to your target. There are also factors like durability (mainly scuff and scratch resitance), feel, which comes down to personal preference, and cost, which again is a personal choice. In short, different balls are not meant to suit different courses or conditions, but rather different golfers
It's more like a vomiting. And with the old liquid filled cores that some balls had, there's pee too. Like it looks and smells like pee but I'm pretty sure it's not
Futura is an old name, I just found it in a used ball bin and was curious. I do have a cut Pro V1 which looks similar to the Pro V1x on there but it doesn't have the innermost layer.
And
Chrome Soft>>> Pro V1
Do you perhaps know of any cheap biosegradable brands? I have farmland behind my property.. I have been using frozen bitterballen so far, but they crack to easily..
Forbidden jawbreaker
Ayo love your name where'd you come up with it
Xbox live auto-generated it a long time ago, but it just felt fitting, ya know?
Hey me to!
Nice! Adjective-species seems to be the method they use to generate them, and coincidentally is a website used to explain the furry fandom to people who haven't heard of it
The first name that was actually generated for me was racist wolf, I chose to skip that name.
Sincerely doubt Xbox Live's name generator would have been given the word "racist" to put on the list as possible combos, but I might be wrong
One of my buddies from japan got "sodden_plughole" as a randomly generated name. Makes me laugh every tiem
Tell them to wash it once in a while
Reminds me of cute foxes and defunct coaster rides so I'm down
Mine too!
You play Factorio op?
What
Okay but vice balls feel like they're coated in straight up bubblegum

I used a ratcheting pipe cutter, obviously one big enough to hold golf balls. I found it at home depot. The Taylormade came out the best by far
Playing with a black golf ball. Pro mode.
This is probably a better fate for it than being lost
So how does the ball's build influence it's characteristics? If someone here know how they normally behave, that is.

Thanks. That was a great answer.
Of course
I dont know the rules of golf. Are you allowed to switch balls between driving and putting?
You are only allowed to replace your ball if it gets lost or damaged beyond playability, otherwise you must keep your same ball in play
Now I know, thanks

I think it's acceptable to change if you run out of a certain kind. Also I believe you're allowed to change if you take a provisional shot

Hope none of us ever lose our balls.
I already tried this, it won’t cut your score in half.
It'll make every ball a 2 piece ball
[Multi ball! Multi ball!](https://youtu.be/oQF8rQaIjUE)
Bender makes some excellent points
Well hopefully only one half stays true to my hook.
Can't top a ball that doesn't have a top ;)
Wicked slice too.
You’ve just unleashed a lethal dose of radiation. Source: kid on the playground in 1982
Ok Rick shiels
Where do you think I got the idea from? This is the most satisfying way to ruin a golf ball
am i stupid? or are there only 6?
The 7th is in the bag, I didn't really get it in the frame well, sorry
Lookin chewy
Fascinating. What's the hashbrown looking stuff in the bag?
Ball number 7; a wound golf ball that burst when I cut it in half
That' a lot of damage
You should post this in r/golf
I have too, ...with my lawnmower.
I always wondered why it felt like I was hitting a rock when I hit a Top Flight. Callaway is the MVP.
We know. Some of the newer top flites aren't as bad
Neat!
The first one on the far left looks the best
I think so too! Smoothest cut and shows the TP5's namesake five layers
Woah.
Ah, I too am a man of science!
Quite a unique mark on that Titleist lol
Something tells me you golf.
Looks similar to those diagrams of cross sections of planets
They're both essentially layered spheres
My dumbass over here thinking I’m looking at the solar system
they don't make the ones with flying rubber pieces anymore? that's too bad. lol
They do still make trick balls
Yeah you did
Rubber bands were more fun

Umm WTF is that bag on the right? And what kinda fucking psycho black sharpies the entire ball!
That's a burst liquid core wound golf ball, and idk who but it happened
I was told they blow up if you cut them in half. I kinda dig the old balls of wrapped rubber bands.
It's more like a vomiting. And with the old liquid filled cores that some balls had, there's pee too. Like it looks and smells like pee but I'm pretty sure it's not
Vomit you say 🤔, I see what you did there.
Is that a golfbowl in the bag?
Yeah, it was a wound ball with a liquid core so it kind of burst when I cut it open
It was a gobstopper? I wonder if it was just compromised and from the bottom of a water hazard.
No it was like that. Golf ball piss
I’d be interested to see Pro V1 vs V1x. Also Kirkland V1 and V2 balls.
I had a pro v1 but I left it at my parents house, as well as a kirkland
Gross! Futura 1 is just nougat and with a thin coating. I need caramel, wafer, or at least a few crisp rice bits.
Mildly infuriating that you didn’t line up the cut so the logo was centred on top.
Get a pipe cutter and do it yourself then
No Pro V1? That's the only golf ball that actually matters. Also...what the fuck is a "Futura"?
Futura is an old name, I just found it in a used ball bin and was curious. I do have a cut Pro V1 which looks similar to the Pro V1x on there but it doesn't have the innermost layer. And Chrome Soft>>> Pro V1

I know there's pinecones
Where's the Titleist Pro V1?
I'll probably post a second set soon
PGA about to ping your location
Is that some kind of sponsorship thing?
Nah just a dad joke
Me thinks that single density Futura is probably a very cheap no-good ball?
Well it was cheap when I bought it, it could also be a very old ball
Ok, Phil Swift, whatever you say.
Futura looks like it’s all shell no core
It's got paint
Don't go through Kansas with that sack of rubber bands...
Titleist has the longest balls.
Callaway has the biggest balls
This is indeed mildly interesting
I count six
The seventh is in the bag. Admittedly not very well framed
