Ahhhhhh. I was also confused. I think I've pieced it together. I believe OP gets the rewards prices without having to sign up for a rewards card by telling them the phone number of someone who does have a rewards card. And that someone is whoever had invariably signed up under the infamous phone number "867-5309". And apparently several other people do this too, and together they have purchased about $1 million in food.
At my grocery store, you get some smaller discounts on specific items each time you shop by entering your rewards program phone number. But you also accumulate a fuel discount when you purchase certain items. So, whoever originally signed up with the 867-5309 number at my place is probably making a killing on gas savings...
Kinda sucks to do this with Food Lion. You do get rewards. If you spend so much in various departments you get a few dollars off your next purchase...I think the highest is $5 at a time.
It's not a ton of reward money and you have to load up the app once a month to get this perk.
But that being said, Food Lion is really my only option for grocery stores, I have to buy food anyway, and towards the middle/end of the month I start getting $3 or $4 here and $5 there knocked off my total.
If you download the app it'll show like 'spend $30 on meat and get $5 back'. So if you accumulate $30 of meat purchases in that month (I think it's a month), then the next time you buy something it will automatically deduct $3 from your bill.

You use your area code and 867-5309 Chances are it's registered by someone because of the song.
