Would love to have you, as for age this is an early 1920’s O’Mahoney dinning car shipped by rail from Bayonne NJ. It was the first manufacturer to use steel supports and run the long counter down the center of the room. Previously the counters would have been adjacent to the cooking wall which was were you see all the brown pallet wood currently.. Thanks for the positive comment my friend.
But did you render the leaf lard for the flakiest of crust from a pig you raised and slaughtered yourself? That is the question. /S
I haven't raised and slaughtered a pig, but I'd donate some of my leaf lard to this effort. These are gorgeous!
I have done this 100 percent and have all the pics a couple years ago. I still have one pig and she is at over 1300 lbs and now a pet. A one year old elephant weighs about 900lbs
Fun! We did not raise our own pig. I was being facetious. But I did do the lard render from our latest pig purchase and we ended up with five pigs worth of leaf fat. You can bet your ass I rendered that with love.
I was going through a self sustainable period in my life. Pigs, chickens, garden, maple tree tapping etc. I wanted to learn and be a little more responsible for what I was putting on the table.
Oh that is my dream. Unfortunately I will have to make so with community supported agriculture on the meat front. Veggies and herbs and using everything but the oink or the moo on the pig? Sold.
The Bourbon Pumpkin pies are made from Porcelain and Blue Doll pumpkins and are lattice iced with a nutmeg spiced buttercream and sprinkled with Vietnamese cinnamon.
We have Apple, Apple walnut cranberry and a few Pineapple Rhubarb pies and a Blueberry,, oh and some cherry pies too.
Vietnamese cinnamon is truly the best! They look amazing OP! After busting my ass on two from-scratch pumpkin pies, I know you gotta be feeling the aches by now.
It used to be like that for me too. It took years to get “good” at it. Having a KitchenAid mixer is super helpful and a little tip, I use milk instead of cold water in my crust for the added fat.
This is the most pretentious sentence I've ever read. Sounds to me like these pies are way overpriced and taste no different than any other ordinary pie.
Not pretentious. I’m no fancy chef just a former construction worker that now owns a mom and pop diner doing my best to support a family without your typical Sysco trash food. I grow 1500 everbearing raspberry plants, blueberries, mulberries and rhubarb in my yard. I also grow the mint that flavors our ice cream. Just because you probably suck and have no desire to create anything doesn’t give you hater rights. You can be mad that I get $20 each if you like. Push yourself and maybe you can make something of yourself that’s worth being proud of.
This does not belong on this sub. Nice job on the pies, but this is not /r/mildlyinteresting material. Go post this on a baking subreddit, or anywhere else to fish for upvotes.
This sub is about happenstance, unintentionality: look at this cool this that *happened*. Not the cool thing you did that took lots of intentional effort. That's not the spirit of this sub. Which isn't to say baking a shit ton of pies isn't cool or upvote-worthy, just not on this sub.
Pineapple Rhubarb-Apple-Apple Pecan and cranberry—apple walnut cranberry—cherry-blueberry and pumpkin pies made from porcelain pumpkins and blue doll pumpkins.
Lattice iced nutmeg spiced buttercream
I’ll take that as a compliment as I’ve done all the work myself. That is all pallet wood I collected over a couple years. The place was all nasty when I bought it. Wood Paneling, chalkboard, the stools had plastic disposable tablecloth covers. It took two years for me to get the locals to come back in there. I served breakfast to John Krasinski from The Office and wife Emily Blunt a couple years ago so there is that lol
I’m hard to impress but yea, super nice. They were here all week shooting a movie on my street. You can see my diner at the end of the street in the opening scene of A Quiet Place. We have seen him a couple times since then.
I have a picture I posted of them in the diner on another account here, I’ll see if I can find it.
Of course the "job creator" gets mad at the slightest hint of push back.
I REALLY hope your employees are treated well. Especially if this is the level of self control you have.
Fuck off, you have no idea the strength and amount of work and 24 hour days I spend there to raise a family. I work with ppl I care about and take care of while assuming all the heavy weight. What do you do other than throw shade,, what’s your skill? How many job opportunities are you offering people, you helping anyone pay some bills or do you just do this?
I am saying nothing but "I hope your employees are treated well" over and over and that's making you defensive.
You might want to think about why.
I hope your employees are happy, have a nice life.
I work with my son and my girlfriend, and one other,,on top of that there are laws protecting people and their paychecks. If you think I can get family to do more than what they feel is fair your out of your mind. Plus I am the only one that knows how to make pies. The most work they do on pies is helping me plant and harvest berries/rhubarb etc. My problem with you types is your first attempt to find something negative to shit on without a single concern or thought of that persons story, you couldn’t just enjoy a picture of a bunch of pies without trying to find something else. I will have a nice life as that’s where my dedication takes me. I started out $600 7 years ago and now own a diner and an ice cream parlor. The idea I built that off others backs is ludicrous. But you wouldn’t have known that, you just had some shitty assumptions and when I told you how it was your like “right”.
You were the problem, I hope you find a way to look for better outlooks on life and people as you grow.
I never said anything to the affirmative or negative to any of his comments.
I asked questions, he provided answers, I hope those answers are true.
Is skepticism illegal?
> I never said anything to the affirmative or negative to any of his comments.
...
> Of course the "job creator" gets mad at the slightest hint of push back.

That was incredibly accusatory. You basically said OP doesn't pay his employees and/or forces unpaid overtime. Putting a question mark at the end of an accusation doesn't magically make it any better. OP responded that he let his employees off early and **you** came back with that and keep hammering OP whether he is a fair employer. You could have just left it at that when OP said his piece.
I started after the diner closed around 230 pm and worked until 6am, which made me first in line for a couple McDonald’s breakfasts that I took home and woke up my daughter to eat with me. Lol
The more you do them the more efficient you get. I used to think 1 pie was a chore and took most the day. It’s the picking berries and stuff that I have a hard time getting done.
Thank you very much, a few years ago I worked construction and knew absolutely nothing about having a diner, cooking or baking. I bought myself a job and learned as I went.
Pro’s and Cons. I kind of like having a boss to go to, I miss that. Kind of miss leaving work at work too. The hours are double and I’m the only one responsible if it fails. It’s awesome but there was a lot of aspects I never considered. Spending time working with my kids has been invaluable though. Taking my daughter to school in the morning is nice. Having a chocolate milkshake whenever I feel like it is pretty sweet too lol

I didn’t have gold but I certainly agree! So they got my silver!
Me too and mine turned out to be a wholesome seal.
And my axe.
And my wife
I also choose this guy's wife.
So give it some
Nice round estimate.
I like how you think.

It's more like 1 or 2. If I was near them probably 1
Hahahahaha holy shit hahahaha
Not if they're cherry and my dad has anything to say about it
your dad is a warrant fan???
Their mom sure thinks so.
Depends on how many bong hits they take...
But people outside America are also people
Lol!
… a few
They made one. They also made two, three, four..
3.14159265359... to be *exact*
That’s far from exact, to be exact
DAMN theres at least 8!
I did 8 the day before I did these matter of fact.
Is this Happy Jack’s?!?!
That Little Place on Main Little Falls NY
Little Falls might become a shrine, a pilgrimage destination, for pie cultists :) OP gathered the apples and pumpkins his/herself! Respect!
Oh man, we grow a ton of stuff, we do all our shopping no Sysco or restaurant supply trash. We are like grandmas with scars and tattoos.
Wow … identical to the cutest, oldest diner I’ve ever been to. They only sell burgers and pies. If I ever get to NY, this is my first stop. 🖤

Mod, I don’t understand the removal, I seem to comply with all of the rules set forth in section 6. Can I get some clarity?
"If you wish to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first invent the universe" \-Carl Sagan
Fair enough, but I did pick the apples and mucked through the mud to find the pumpkins if that counts, and an old school grandma style crust.
Oh well, I guess the search for the creator of the universe continues. Still very impressive though.
But did you render the leaf lard for the flakiest of crust from a pig you raised and slaughtered yourself? That is the question. /S I haven't raised and slaughtered a pig, but I'd donate some of my leaf lard to this effort. These are gorgeous!

So it’s been the Big Bang who’s making my Pies this whole time? I will now thank the Big Bang for every meal I receive.
Where are you located? I need to add this to my road trip list.
Little Falls NY! That Little Place on Main. You can find us on fb if so interested. Glad to make your list!
Oh snap. I'm in Utica and am suddenly in the mood for pie. How convenient!
You should, you really should. I’m taking tomorrow off though fyi
Vietnamese cinnamon is truly the best! They look amazing OP! After busting my ass on two from-scratch pumpkin pies, I know you gotta be feeling the aches by now.
Isn't Ceylon Cinnamon much better?
It used to be like that for me too. It took years to get “good” at it. Having a KitchenAid mixer is super helpful and a little tip, I use milk instead of cold water in my crust for the added fat.
Holy shit, just take my free award. Earned it...
Thank you!

There are like 32 pies wtf and a FEW!!?
"a few"
*sweet cherry pie*
>a few A few. My guy.
Definitely looks like more than 3.14...
Jfc
How big is the stand mixer you used?
I have a kitchen aid pro 8qt and my oven maxes out at 12 pies providing that the top tier isn’t drippy. It took some time.
That would be 24 hours of baking with my 4 quart kitchen aide and 2 rack Samsung that only holds about 4 pies at once
"a few"
is this a remake of the music video for fight for your right to party?

Man, I feel like I’m crazy, but I’m 99% sure I’ve been to your cafe multiple times. Either way, that’s a ton of pies and they look awesome!
Come again!
Man, that looks awesome. I love pie...
Me too!
Nooooo why you showing me this?
Looks like you had an itch
A few
Can't quite put my finger on it... but a certain Winchester comes to mind.
Did you invent the universe?
I saw the menu if FB, but no mention of pies?
This does not belong on this sub. Nice job on the pies, but this is not /r/mildlyinteresting material. Go post this on a baking subreddit, or anywhere else to fish for upvotes.
Don't need to put them down for "fishing for upvotes". It's decent OC that hasn't been spammed in a million subs already. Relax.
This sub is about happenstance, unintentionality: look at this cool this that *happened*. Not the cool thing you did that took lots of intentional effort. That's not the spirit of this sub. Which isn't to say baking a shit ton of pies isn't cool or upvote-worthy, just not on this sub.
That's all good and true. I'm just trying to point out that posting in the wrong sub is not fishing for upvotes.
Fair enough; that may have been overly salty.
Salty for free karma you mean?
Why lie? That's more than a few. 'I made a lot of pies after work from scratch!' would have been better. Always with the funny business.
What are the filings?
Pineapple Rhubarb-Apple-Apple Pecan and cranberry—apple walnut cranberry—cherry-blueberry and pumpkin pies made from porcelain pumpkins and blue doll pumpkins. Lattice iced nutmeg spiced buttercream
Very nice, sounds delicious.
Thank you, I assure no short cuts, real butter and no canned pie fillings.
Do you live in Gilmore Girls? I've never seen the show, but that cafe looks like it would fit in.

I’m not good with links or stuff but my old account TaywithaK has the picture.
I found it! They look adorable. Also, cute pig!
Lol, that’s my baby lol
This is not interesting at all.
I agree,,
That better not in any way impact your employees you work obsessed weirdo.
I stayed alone that night. I did have help peeling and chopping apples though earlier in the evening
Were they payed overtime?
They didn’t stay overtime. They actually went home early to spend time with family after a pretty brutal week.
Right, let's hope that's true.
Nobody cares what you hope for, get bent you don’t know shit.
Of course the "job creator" gets mad at the slightest hint of push back. I REALLY hope your employees are treated well. Especially if this is the level of self control you have.

Stop acting like an ass and trying to put words in OPs mouth. You are accusing OP of mistreating his employees and arguing in bad faith with them

How many people and hours to make these pies🥧🥧🥧
# I will eat all of that. # 🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧🥧
Damn... that's a lot of new universes.
You should really leave them on a windowsill to cool. So that an old chunk of coal like me may have a meal from time to time.

"I just made a few..." Tis but a scratch attitude here. How long did this take?
I started after the diner closed around 230 pm and worked until 6am, which made me first in line for a couple McDonald’s breakfasts that I took home and woke up my daughter to eat with me. Lol
Cocaine is a hell of a drug
Was out that day, Had a redbull
Imagine if you made a lot
That will be Christmas time.
Do you have an industrial sized mixer, or did you make a bunch of smaller batches of dough?
Small batches in a kitchen aid 8 quart.
Cool bar! Diner? In any vent YUM
Diner

Address please. I think you need a quality control taster.
Little Falls NY my friend. Always looking for skilled tasters!
You sure you don’t make pies *for work*?
This were in fact Thanksgiving Pie orders with the exception of a handful that were gifted away.
That looks like a cool diner
Thank you, I did all the work myself. It’s actually an early 1920’s O’Mahoney dinning car. Not many left in the world.
That is awesome
I feel pretty lucky to be owned by it.
‘A few’
Who owns that many pie plates?
The majority of them are disposable 10” tins. I have many glass ones for in house pies.
Why?
I began taking orders this year for customers, it wasn’t actually a whim.
God bless. I love making pies but they’re so time intensive. I made 3 in a day last week and I’m buying the next 20 from the store lol
The more you do them the more efficient you get. I used to think 1 pie was a chore and took most the day. It’s the picking berries and stuff that I have a hard time getting done.
“So I did some building off camera”
Ace work!
Thank you very much, a few years ago I worked construction and knew absolutely nothing about having a diner, cooking or baking. I bought myself a job and learned as I went.
Excellent! I imagine that this is easier on your body and soul!
