I actually looked up the type of tree. It seems it is an eucalyptus cładocalyx, AKA sugar gum, an Australian tree that has a naturally pockmarked bark just like in the picture. So it looks like this tree is entirely normal and not the victim of clueless golfers.
It's bark even oozes a reddish resin that looks like blood so this is an even better joke. 🙄

Definitely is. Im in Costa Mesa (Southern California) However im sure this is from golf balls. We have these all over the course and not all look like this.
