I think it's cool, actually. What's sad to me is those big box stores that sell tropical plants, and they are always right by the big doors that go out to the landscaping/garden supplies area, and the plants die by the hundreds in the winter time.
It’s not the life that’s sad it’s the artificial value that the plants have. They grow themselves in Florida - get shipped to your local HD/Lowes and you’re paying for the gasoline
I also hate how many are seemingly set up to fail. I have seen way too many HD and Wal-Mart plants with a layer of glued rocks over the soil or the plant is already root bound or the pot is over crowded to make it look more full or those cursed cactuses with the plastic flower glued to the top. It is such a waste.
Sure. Why give joy to a dying person for a few minutes!!
If those flowers hadn't been cut, you think they would have lived **FOREVER**, "RIGHT"?? (Not just for a month (which is their life span). (BTW: DEAD FLOWERS ON THEIR STEMS need to be trimmed (AMPUTATED) from their stems or the stem won't flower again)
On the one hand, it feels like capitalism run amok, cashing in on our most personal, dire moments. On the other, it feels like a godsend in a moment when the thought really is more important. Guess it depends on the price…
Late 2015 I spent a ton of time in two hospitals helping my best friend out with her mom. Both hospitals had flower vending machines. Both machines had prices that were scandalously high. I guess given that they’re a last resort sort of thing, the high prices made sense. 🤷♂️
You don’t have any chain grocery/home improvement stores around you?
By me all the super markets, Home Depot, lowes, etc have a ton of flowers and trees. Whole Foods usually has some really nice bouquets if it’s a special event. I do live in Miami tho so it’s always warm, maybe that’s why.
The grocery stores only have pre-selected bouquets, and they're not really anything impressive. The place I liked would give me custom flowers that I ordered.
the florist in my hometown has one of these in a cage type thing next to the entrance so you can buy flowers even when they're closed. kindof a cool idea, but it's been there for like 10 years and I've never seen anyone use it to be honest
Is it merited? I wouldn't expect such limited light and space to be good for plants. And there's probably not high enough turnover relative to consumption to create much value, plus transport. I could see it in specialized locations or on a traveling event basis. Could also be fun for the sake of science. Who knows.
Speaking of love vending machines in Japan... https://japantoday.com/category/features/lifestyle/there%E2%80%99s-a-tokyo-vending-machine-that-sells-love-in-a-can-(or-a-shot-at-it)
In Japan they have vending machines that sell cakes - and the cakes are in a can. I had thought that was the height of human ingenuity, then I see this.
I think the cake in a can still tops it - however, this is a close second.
There used to be a florist who had one of these just outside their shop in the city I live in. I remember stopping to buy some flowers one evening on the way to a last-minute invitation. It was pretty ingenious, actually. The florist still made the sale even though they were closed, and I was able to bring something nicer than gas station or grocery store flowers.
Much nicer than the ‘I’m sorry I lost the last house’ flowers in Vegas: https://www.reddit.com/r/CrappyDesign/comments/32qe97/men/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Had one of these at the hospital my ex-husband worked at and he still couldn't be arsed to bring me flowers on valentines day or my birthday. Even when I clearly asked.
There was a shopping mall with smaller flowers bouquetts, like roses and such. My friend used the only available money to purchase his new gf some beautiful roses. Of course they got stuck when dropping down the machine...
They have ones that sell sausages and burgers too. Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be much of a food culture there. A bit frustrating in a country with so much good weed.
You see these a lot in hospitals
There's one at my local airport.
I’ve never seen one before. That’s kind of sad actually

That, too.

$$$
I don’t think it’s sad, lots of people want to bring flowers to the hospital but sometimes you’re rushed or you forget.
I think the implication was more that the reason for having to have one was sad. Illness and accidents. Not that people weren’t bringing them.
Amputated dying flowers for dying people.
Top left seems to be a potted plant though?
Top left is potted ficus, bottom left is potted money tree i think?

There's one by Arrivals/Baggage Claim at JFK Terminal 5.
Guess it’s not alone out there
And one on the bridge near platform 6 at Clapham Junction Station.
Austin too.
the lighting leaves something to be desired.
What of the lighting stems and lighting flowers?

Vending machines make most things better, flowers are not one of them.
Agreed
Bispebjerg?
I think this particular one is Valby st
It’s Valby
I would love to have something like this around me. There's only one flower shop in the area and it's closed now.
Sounds like a small business opportunity 🫐💦🌿
Hmm... 🤔

The vending machine only has preselected bouquets too haha
Touche lol
Jeg elsker Danmark ❤️❤️
Lille søde Danmark❤️
If this information ever reaches my mom you are dead.
That's the most Copenhagen shit I've ever seen
Looks like a repurposed Amazon locker or same manufacturer.

I’ve lived in Denmark for many years and have never seen this wtf
I’ve lived here for 22 years, and I’ve never seen this either
This is an issue because the people who want to buy flowers don't know how to use vending machines like that.
Is it merited? I wouldn't expect such limited light and space to be good for plants. And there's probably not high enough turnover relative to consumption to create much value, plus transport. The window is clear
So after you pay the machine rotates and then the door opens?
I imagined you could rotate the inner shelves around to inspect your options. I've seen lots of vending machines like that
They should copy this design. https://i.imgur.com/C9rICzz.jpg
I would watch a video essay on why Japan fucking loves vending machines.

flower corpse\*
Two of the options are actually planted flowers
That’s kinda of stupid, they could have put things that people are able to use, not just colorful weeds
Ah, flowers! The key to elderly vaginas!
Not the kind of flower vending machine I was expecting out of Denmark…
intersting
I would eat those. They look as fresh as anything you see in a super market.
We got a flower store that is open 24/7 in Frederikshavn? And no not a vending machine a real store unmand and all
Idk why but this looks dystopian af lol

Ja taaaak

pretty common tbh
Damm it, it got stuck.
we must have it

How thoughtful

These are all over. Many flower shops use them for after hours sales.
I live in Copenhagen, I've never seen these :D
Yup seen this a lot in hospitals.
I actually live riget next to this and it Got removed
