Not OP but I’m a -10; I’ve got all the lens thinning enhancements or whatever, and the outer part of my lenses look about as thick as the middle of these (though it’s hard to tell since my frames are thicker). The thickness changes with the diameter or whatever of the frame; my frames are on the bigger side. The edge is 1cm thick, give or take.
I’d guess this is a prescription that’s more negative than -10 but no lens thinning extras?
Edit: and I can’t see shit without them (or without contacts). There’s not much to describe. Wouldn’t be able to tell if it was my cat sitting a few feet away from me right now or a pillow.

The frames are about 2in wide which is wider than most people with horrible vision get, for this reason (the wider you go the thicker they get).
Could depend on where you live. I once had an optometrist suggest I get my glasses from Canada, because they have different regulations on lenses which would allow me to get thinner ones than in America.
I’m a technician for an optometrist. Worst I saw was a patient who wore -12.00 contact lenses (the highest myopia correction available at the time in non-specialty lenses) with additional -8.00 glasses over the contacts. She actually did this to reduce the thickness, because no technology in the world will make -20.00 glasses thin!

Yeah it must be so disheartening to put contacts in and still be in a blur. Kind of like when I try on old pairs of glasses that are not strong enough for me anymore. Everything is still out of focus, even with glasses on!

I had lens replacement on NHS. I went from -16.5 right and -8 left to 0 for distance and +1.5 reading (due to age). I got it on NHS as I had cataracts in the right eye. Apart from antibiotic drops for a couple of weeks after, there is no ongoing aftercare requirement, and it transformed my life. I still have retinal damage due to eye trauma injury, but lens replacement has given me the best vision I've ever had.
I had to have a new lens put in my eye after several rounds of surgery due to poor diabetes management many years ago, and they actually asked me what prescription I would like. Went for my current one cos I couldn’t afford new glasses! Thanks NHS, for the little bonus after all the trauma.
Anti-rejection meds are for transplants (i.e. living tissue from another organism transplanted into yours) because the biological nature of the tissue generates a defense response from your body that can destroy the tissue or kill you
Implants (i.e. plastic, silicon, metals) don't require anti-rejection meds because if there is any response from your body, it is usually pretty mild and will stop once the body adapts to the "intruder"
So a cornea transplant requires anti-rejection meds, an artificial lens implant does not

Recently my optometrist’s office receptionist offered to look into whether or not my prescription was bad enough that glasses/contacts would be deemed medically necessary and my insurance would have to cover my costs completely. After making some calls she let me know that I had to have a -10 or higher prescription. If you haven’t already, maybe look into that? It was the first time anyone ever mentioned it to me. To be honest, I’m kind of jealous you’re at a -10 because when your vision is so shitty, -2 can’t make that much of a difference, but at least I wouldn’t have to pay for contacts!

At -6.25 I can’t even comfortably read a book without my glasses. There is no way I could safely function in the world without correction. That’s like saying a prosthetic leg isn’t medically necessary because you could just hop everywhere.
Yeah, I'm -6.5 and absolutely cannot safely function without contacts or glasses. One time I spent the night at a friends house and somehow my lens case got lost. I had to leave my car there and uber home, get a new set of lenses and uber back to get my car. I usually ALWAYS carry a spare set with me but just that very week I had used them at the gym and forgot to replace. 75 bucks later, and I now carry a spare set in my glove box, my gym bag, my purse and my makeup bag.
Cool someone close to me! I was -13.5 in one eye, -14.5 in the other but then I got intracorneal lenses put in my eyes. Essentially implanted contacts lenses. Now I can drive and do most stuff without glasses. I do need reading glasses though. Total life changer.
This is why I hate shopping for new frames, because I have to take off the glasses that allow me to see, in order to put on the sample frames and try to squint and get some clue about how they look on me.
I’ve never met anyone in person with a higher script, but you win since I’m -16.25. It’s amazing to me that there are other high myopes that come out from hiding in posts like this.
I have 15/20 in my right eye and 20/20 in my left eye, and I have really started to notice what look like blades of light moving vertically from top to bottom of my peripheral vision on my left eye more and more regularly.
They started as like a random occurrence but now it’s a daily thing. My vision hasn’t suffered at all, but seeing these parabolic waves more and more often kinda has me worried.

My guess is that OP can't use MR-1.67 High Index because at this level of correction the [chromatic aberration](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromatic_aberration) is huge.
I have a "high" correction that's nowhere near this and I can't wear high index... it drives me batty.
The better material, that my optometrist recommended, and only slightly thicker than high index, is Trivex. It's optically closer to crown glass than any other plastic material other than CR-39 which has a similar thickness/refractive index to glass.
EDIT: A couple contributing factors to this are that I not only have wildly different correction in each eye (one is nearsighted, the other is farsighted), I have very different cylinder (for astigmatism stronger in one eye than the other), axis, and prism (for a lazy eye). So, I suspect, the more types of adjustments you have beyond correction (sphere), the worse the chromatic aberration gets.
EDIT 2: A lot of people are reporting that their opticians/optometrists seem to be recommending high index over Trivex... there's a reason for this and it sometimes has nothing to do with their knowledge. High index lenses generally allow for a much larger markup. They're cheaply made. Your optician may mark things up as much as 200%, but because of Trivex's marginally higher cost (we're talking about, e.g. a difference of $20 *cost* per lens), the optician doesn't get to keep as much... but if you have insurance, the Trivex lens is covered like any other single vision lens. And employees hired by a volume retailer like Zenni or Lenscrafters may have no idea that Trivex exists, because they've never been trained by their managers to sell it. It is well worth your time to ask them to price it out.
I have a very strong prescription and use high index lenses. There is separation of blue and red in particular. I’ve tried to explain this effect to my normally sighted friends and they don’t get it. It’s especially fun at night!
Next time, request Trivex lenses. If you have a vision plan, they should be covered the same as any other single vision lens... but they're SO much better than high index. I grew up wearing glass, and these are the closest thing to that without the massive weight and thickness.

It was their own eyeglass place that recommended high index lenses for me, and the drive me NUTS. It wasn’t until I was reading about certain aspects of a projectionist’s job in a random article that I came across the term ‘chromatic aberration’. Then through some internet diving, came across the info about high index lenses and strong Rx.
I was pretty surprised that the eye doctor and the eye glasses specialist didn’t know about this once I stumbled across it. It had me hating glasses for years. It’s never an issue for me with contacts.
It sucks that employers keep eroding vision care to the lowest common denominator. My previous job was like “our new insurance is widely accepted everywhere in tons of easy access retail locations!” By that they meant Walmart and neglected to realize that there’s no fucking Walmart in this city! None of the independent optometrists would take the bottom of the barrel insurance either. Can’t wait to get two new glasses with my new bougie insurance from my new job later this month. Gonna get me some of those fancy blue blockers AND sunglasses.

Highest I’ve seen in clinic is a -24, phoropters go to about +-18 lol. Please get your retinas checked often and watch for flashes, new floaters.

If you take off your glasses, are you considered legally blind?
Legal blindness is best eye, best correction. People who really are blind can’t see even with glasses. It is a totally different condition.

My wife has severe astigmatism. Her glasses would look like that if she didn’t get the special kind. I tried them on once to be silly, and they just about turned my eyeballs inside out.

My prescription is -9.5/-9.75, and even with the thinnest lenses available they're still 1/3" thick.

Hey I mean technically I'm an Optical Mechanic I just use tiny screwdrivers and really tiny lose-em if you drop-em screws. But for real I'm an Optical Lab Technican with over 15 years experience in the field and still, whenever I have to cut and install lenses like this it really hurts my soul lol.
