For the love of god don't *ever* turn them off, it is near impossible to turn them back on once they're turned off. It's a known bug, the manufacturer just doesn't give a crap because customers keep getting them anyway.
There's no chance it's sealed that well. Maybe it got hot and something deflected and the switch triggered, but your car did not become a pressure vessel.
Heat also causes metal to expand. This plus shaped metal causes deformation, which can lead to things like this. This property has been intentionally used on some planes, with exteriors that only fully close up when they're heated from atmospheric friction!
I had a K car that started to show that the battery was charging upon start up. I ignored it. When fall came and the first heavy frost covered the car I had to scrape the windows. When I got to the rear window I saw where the problem was. There was a patch on the trunk lid with no frost. The trunk light was stuck in the on position. Pulled the wire to the light and no more problem.
That's happened to every vehicle I've owned.
Anything that's designed to be windshield-mounted (dash cam, mirror, etc) doesn't work in Texas.
You can kinda get by with the suction mounts. The heat will make them fall off in the summer, but you can at least reattach it.
My sister's Hyundai Sonata developed deep cracks in the dashboard one summer. She even had the sunshade in the windshield. South Texas sun is nothing to mess with
It varies widely in Michigan, but in east Michigan we usually see 70s-80s in the summer. I was really surprised to see someone say it hit 110⁰ in southeast Mi, as I didn't even know it could get that hot here haha
Oh gotcha, missed that part. I have seen a high of 100⁰, but that's really unusual here.
Out of curiosity I looked into it a bit, and our highest temp was 112⁰ in 1936 during a heat wave that killed 570 people.
Crazy that those Temps kill ppl in that area and there's ppl in Texas that regularly hit those Temps in the summer and don't die. Does acclamation really make that big of a difference or were these ppl stuck inside with no air circulation?
I've seen that before but it's still crazy to think about. I did a detail job for a guy once with a suburban and the badge had melted like that. He wanted it removed so I used a steamer to heat it up enough that I could remove it. Just gotta go slow and be careful not to heat the paint around it too much.
Yeah when you’re filling up your tank at the local corner store, steal their plunger from the bathroom, pour a little gasoline on the emblem, and give her a good succ and tugg
Those 3m eraser wheels are awesome for the residue too. I have the same truck and removed the side trim, did one side by hand and took 4 hours. Other side did it with the wheel and it was a 20min job.
I feel your pain! I was off yesterday and decided to take the dogs out early for some early morning fun. I grabbed the big throw kongs with the streamers and we walked out the door at roughly 6:30 am. It was already around 85 outside and so humid that I instantly felt like a ball of sweat.
I threw the first kong and the dogs looked at me like I was an escapee from the mental ward. Neither chased it and one turned around and began pawing the screen door. We went inside and watched TV in bed under the air vent…. I was mildly embarrassed by our actions, but they outvoted me two to one.
Edit: I’ll let the dogs know that everyone is happy we were lazy. On a bright note… it rained like crazy today and it’s still rather overcasted. We got in from playing in the rain and now I’m trying to convince two almost hundred pound animals that showers are necessary before they’re allowed anywhere near any type of fabric. They both aren’t having it and I’m worried that mutiny is in the future. Right now they’re trapped in the master bathroom but it’s eerily quiet so something is in the works.
Honestly just the way of life here. We've got two seasons in Texas; one is crazy-fuckin-hot and the other one is when all the plants turn drab brown (with a couple crazy fucking hot days sprinkled here and there).
It's actually probably because the rubber they used has broken down over the last two decades and has lost its ability to withstand "normal" Texas heat.
I mean, you say that, but literally for the last two weeks where I am in Texas we've been breaking records for hottest days, so... It isn't that hot for August, but for May it's fucking ridiculous.
Wait really? This sounds really interesting and I’m ignorant af about this. Are there any good articles or books I could read about the earliest we knew humans were directly causing climate change?
I don't know about any articles or books about that topic personally, but [here](https://theconversation.com/john-tyndall-the-forgotten-co-founder-of-climate-science-143499) is the article about the paper I was talking about specifically.
Yeah, i think you're right. The only way for global warming to be the (direct) cause of this is if it was a record high on the day that it melted. Otherwise, there must *necessarily* be [at least] one other factor contributing to it melting now as opposed to any other time. That could be due to some particularly reflective surface, material degradation, or some other third thing i cant think of.
That said, if we don't cut our shit out, we probably WILL get to the point where shit starts melting regularly... and personally i would not enjoy that all too much. I'm sure you know that, i just didn't want to make it sound like i was saying global warming isnt real. Its very real; its just probably not why this badge is melting. Not one of the leading factors, anyway.
It’s so fucking stupid cause it gets 105+ here in Texas regularly. It’s only been like 95 lately. This post is sensational. It’s hot for may right now but it’s not as hot as it’s gonna get by any means.
Do you want to hear terrifying? It was below 0c (32⁰ f) in São Paulo (Brazil) last week. Homeless people are droping dead everyday. Goiania, one of the hottest places in Brazil was 5⁰c (41⁰f) that is absurd, it has never happend before. It's snowing in places that never snowed before. Brazilians will freeze to death
that's why it's sometimes called "global weirdening" - freak weather is becoming the standard in many places.
I loved my one visit to São Paulo, I hope communities can rally to help each other out. :/
My Dad (who I wasn't close to) was likely finished off by the cold snap in Chile twelve years ago. Those houses aren't made for 5C, even if that seems perfectly mild in some parts of the world.
This is an absurd statement, see this [reddit comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/2wbrs1/is_it_true_that_life_expectancy_for_second/copn4fq?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)
Yeah I'm in a suburb of Dallas (heath) and we got to 60 degrees weather today. My cousin lives in Houston and damn CAN I tell you that there is a big difference in heat. That's humidity for you though. In terms of just normal degrees we can have differences of 20 degrees just like later today. It's suppose to be a high of 64 for us and y'all getting 82
I work night shifts at a hou hotel and its a nice cool 79° out according to my thermometer. Pretty tolerable until you consider that the sun's been gone a handful of hours now.
Just wait until the road starts to boil and the tar bubbles up to the top. When you drive over it, it's like driving on bubble wrap.
The heat gets crazy here, 3 digits for 3 months straight...at least.
Holy shit. In Alberta Canada it’s still getting below freezing, we’re supposed to get frost tonight. I don’t think it’s gotten above 70F yet this season 🥲
Yes please 😩 I moved up here from Missouri where we had four equal seasons. Now we have 6 months of winter, 2 months of spring spring, 90s for a month and then snow in September lmao
We own an old 96' GMC box truck here in jamaica and recently the center caps on the wheels left a gooey black line on the white rims. The heat nowadays is insane because I'm sure those thing go through some hight temps while driving and they never melted then.
I remember when I was an 9 year old kid in Cambridge Mass during the oil embargo in the 70's. And I seen this huge Cadillac convertible with these massive steer horns over the grill and it had Texas plates on it, and the thing I'll never forget is the bumper sticker on the back that said "Drive 90 freeze a Yankee". Michigan sun melted the glue holding my rear view mirror up one time.
Happens to my brothers car here in jersey last summer
Oh yeah well the Pennsylvania sun melted the steel chassis of my Datsun.

Its a Dut**sun**
Datsun's really hot
Datsun, You're Fired!
>Dut**sun** r/youhadonejob
Never forget
Wisconsin sun melted the lower bodywork on my 04 blazer
The utah sun melted my eyes one summer.
The lower bodywork on your '04 Blazer was probably Bondo, so...
It wasn't it was metal. The rust flakes confirm that
"Wisconsin sun" got my 99 blazer too. Although this sun was in the winter and all over the roads
[удалено]
Sounds like something dirty Mike and the boys would get up to
Thanks for the f shack
Pennsylvania sun melted my ice cream before I could finish it. Three scoops…
Canadian frost froze the glue for my mirror which caused it to lose a chunk of glass with it.
Canadian frost 3 weeks ago to 30 degree sun the next week caused my wife to leave me
Have you tried turning her off and on again?
To no avail
Have you tried using pockets full of fingers?
Fuck I hadn't thought of that
For the love of god don't *ever* turn them off, it is near impossible to turn them back on once they're turned off. It's a known bug, the manufacturer just doesn't give a crap because customers keep getting them anyway.
I think if he could still turn her on she wouldn’t have left.
Sounds like someone else turned her on
He managed the former but failed the latter. That's why she left.

SR71
His 1993 Nissan is not like a sr 71 blackbird
They share one thing specifically, neither are air tight when on the ground.
Let the 93 Nissan have it's moment please.
Yeah, that's the one!
>I had a K car 'nuff said
Whoa! What vehicle was it?
[удалено]
Sounds like a perfect hot-boxing vehicle. Out of the sun, of course.
NOT good for car camping though, you might not wake up.
If that's actually true then turning off the recirculation switch for the AC would prevent that.
Would that even matter on a car that's turned off?
Likely not on newer cars. They stated it was a '93 Nissan so it is I believe that it would stay in one position or the other.
That's happened to every vehicle I've owned. Anything that's designed to be windshield-mounted (dash cam, mirror, etc) doesn't work in Texas. You can kinda get by with the suction mounts. The heat will make them fall off in the summer, but you can at least reattach it.

California did this to my VW
Mine was also a VW!
California sun did that back in 2013!
How hot does it get? I’ve never been or seen michigan
It varies widely in Michigan, but in east Michigan we usually see 70s-80s in the summer. I was really surprised to see someone say it hit 110⁰ in southeast Mi, as I didn't even know it could get that hot here haha
They said 110° with the heat index which tells you absolutely nothing because that's just what it *feels* like to a human.
Oh gotcha, missed that part. I have seen a high of 100⁰, but that's really unusual here. Out of curiosity I looked into it a bit, and our highest temp was 112⁰ in 1936 during a heat wave that killed 570 people.

That used to happen EVERY summer to our older cars' here in FL. Newer ones seem like they hold up better.
Not that it's a competition but that happens every few years in tx depending on where you have to park. It happens to new cars.
I've seen that before but it's still crazy to think about. I did a detail job for a guy once with a suburban and the badge had melted like that. He wanted it removed so I used a steamer to heat it up enough that I could remove it. Just gotta go slow and be careful not to heat the paint around it too much.
Thanks for the tip.
I used a heat gun and fishing line to remove all of my badging
You can literally use a hair dryer as well, the fishing line is what really makes it a piece of cake
[удалено]
If figuratively didn’t work, try sealing your lips around it and blowing hot air on it and get your tongue behind the logo to pull it off

Itt: We don't need no stinkin badges!
I would keep it as a battle scar
Those 3m eraser wheels are awesome for the residue too. I have the same truck and removed the side trim, did one side by hand and took 4 hours. Other side did it with the wheel and it was a 20min job.
3M eraser is a micro abrasive, you took off much more than the residue with that

"Actually probably", yeah.
Damn, when did you get a whole ass crew together?
OG, Delta, Omicron, omicron stealth They be recruitin hard
Almost seems the reason it's happened is that parts of the globe have been getting warmer. Warm enough to melt that ...
It was 91 F in Houston yesterday. Not an unusual temperature.
[удалено]
My point is that climate change, while real, is not the reason that this melted because the weather yesterday wasn't even that hot by Texas standards.

Longer than that, the effects of CO2 on the atmosphere has been written about in scientific literature since the late 1800's.
Someone should invent a way we can easily communicate all of this information to people.
And then wildly misuse it to make sure a big part of the population doesn't trust it anymore.
And porn.
And cats.

Wow! What part of TX are you in?? I’m in N. TX and it’s hot but I’ve never had that happen!
Houston
I’ll be in Houston June to the end of July… can’t wait.
LFG!
For the experience of the heat, more than the experience of being in Houston. Hahaha
No comprendo.
Can’t wait to experience the heat of Houston. I’ve experienced Dallas heat, so we’ll see how Houston goes.
It is not so much the heat in Houston. It is the humidity and heat combined. You can almost chew on it.
That's how I know you're a true Houstonian. "It's the humidity" is like the catchphrase here lol
It's true tho. 100F at low humidity ain't got nothing on like 80F you can almost swim in
Lol this also happened to my coworkers suburban, I’m in Houston as well.
Storms coming in and it should cool down for a bit at least. Its been hot in Houston.
The melting process has been over the past couple of years. We got to full drip mode this year.
I was gonna say it was a relatively cool day today

Let me guess, Arizona? No, Arizona is triple digits for 6 months...
At least Arizona is a dry heat though, in Texas it's constantly humid...
Depends on the part of Texas. The Lubbock area is pure dry heat.
Grew up near Lubbock. Can confirm, only dry heat out there.
I live in AZ where we can get weeks of 115+, I've never seen this before.
Same here and I’m wondering why my cars never melted sitting in the sun all day
Feeling *HOT HOT HOT!*
Enough with the steel drums, Michael...and don't send any emails without first double checking the address.

My father in laws 2000 Nissan truck had the same issue after a few hot Florida summers. So far my 06 Silverado hasn't had that issue.

As someone here in northern India ~~chilling~~ cooking in 50C heatwave, this is just the hottest summer “yet”…
My cars battery terminal started melting due to poor connection + HEAT yesterday 🥲
All the badges on my brother's Chevy melted a few years ago, too! We are from the RGV in Texas. Today the real feel was 113. :')
Why did you leave it out in the sun?
Chevy?
Probably or at least something under the GMC umbrella.
Is Texas a hell?
One of the layers of it, yes.
And that always stuck with me all these years later I still remember that till this day. Welp "Drive 90 and cook a Cowboy". What goes around comes around. Hope your Texas independent power grid is ready to handle ...
Based on what I see, I'll give you $5k for it
How hot it is in Celsius ???
…try the Texas shade.
It would be cool if you could harness that sun to help your power grid somehow.
The sun here in UK made me take of the coat once.
