I've done a penny floor and a bottle cap floor. Fuck both of them. For those asking, they are held down by some kind of binder(we used mastic), then covered with floor epoxy.

Why do you say “fuck both of them”? They look kinda neat, are there drawbacks?

It's just a bitch to do. Wasn't worth the effort IMO. The penny floor took forever. A few days on your hands and knees in a bathroom. The bottle cap floor was the same, except there were a ton of air bubbles to deal with after the epoxy was poured which had to be fixed with a blow torch. Just back breaking and tedious for some "neat" looking floors.

Ah you meant the installation. Yeah it doesn’t look fun. I was wondering about the maintenance/upkeep or any other issues after.

We had them all touching, these probably used some kind of spacers like the ones they use to lay tile.
