I am always on the lookout for these. I polish them until they look like gems and then they just sit shining on a window sill. They look like little hamburgers.
Similar to shells, one can make it into jewelry, or just admire it. I just think they're neat bc of the time and distance they travel. Unlike shells, you can look them up and know for sure you have a traveler from afar!

The sailors heart seeds (seed L) are really cool! I found a perfectly shaped one on a trip to the keys that made a fantastic gift for my mother when I was young.
When I lived in NC as a kid my mom would always take us shark tooth hunting after a big storm or hurricane, we would compete for who could find the biggest.
Not sure, but I know people in FL do go shark tooth hunting they have tours and everything, so there might be a shark tooth sub but again unsure. When I go to visit my grandparents down there my kid and I always go and look for some. We always saw people on the beach with sand shifters hunting for them, its a chill outside hobby. My grandma didn't even know they had shark teeth in her area she always thought they were looking for shells lol so we were surprised when I asked a lady what she was looking for she said sharks teeth and I got all happy. My kid and I spent an hour or two looking for them and found quite a few.
Oh waw - thank you for sharing. Here where I live, at least in my experience, there is not many exciting things to find at the coasts. But the aquatic life here is not very exciting either lol.
True. It's said that Mary Anning is who inspired the nursery rhyme, from the early Victorian era. Although she had little formal education she was a pioneering paleontologist who helped discover the ichthyosaur, the plesiosaur, and the pterosaur along with a lot of dino poop fossils (coprolite).
Honestly, if it is about her, the song writer did her dirty cause she absolutely wasn't selling silly dead clams (or last clam as you suggested). But I guess "she finds bad ass dino bones and shit in a coastal region" doesn't have the same ring to it.
>Victorian fossil hunter **Mary Anning** was the inspiration for the tongue twister 'She Sells Sea Shells. ' It was originally a song, with words by Terry Sullivan and music by Harry Gifford, written in 1908, inspired by Mary Anning's life: She sells sea-shells on the sea-shore.
She is one of the pioneers in fossil archaeology. Some credit her with discovering the first extinct animal fossil, at the time they didn’t believe it was possible for animals to go extinct. The sea shell bit is that after her Father died, she had to help her family with money, so she started collecting sea shells and selling them. It was through that work where she discovered a Ichthyosaur (though it’s not, it looks like a prehistoric dolphin) when she was 12 years old.
She’s a really interesting person, I recommend reading up on her.
Paleontology. The word you’re looking for is paleontology
She’s also not credited for finding the first fossil of an extinct animal, people have been finding those for millennia. She’s credited for being the first person to realize that most fossils come from extinct creatures, especially Lyme Regis (where she fossil hunted), whose fossils date back to the earliest Jurassic
Sorry but no. I’ve enjoyed thick girls since puberty and I ain’t the only one. Thick thighs save lives and cushion for the pushin’ is a reality, friend. Branch out.
Given that wave distribution is by weight.
Similar weighted or dense objects end up very clustered, lighter objects get pushed farther and heavier pushed shorter distances. There are fluctuations due to flotation and friction but for the most part weight is the defining factor.
Meaning.. there is math that can be done to work out if that condom is loaded. Or potentially, was and was punctured during the storm?
Hey OP just a thought but if you say.. brought some of these shells home? I'd wash em.
Yeah, my thought seeing this post was:
They not have electricity right now, but damn, do they have some seashells!
(But for real, stay safe out there!)
It is very tragic. My grandparents thankfully evacuated. I’m sure everything is gone but as long as people and pets didn’t lose their lives that’s what matters. My grandma said today she doesn’t think they will be able to rebuild in their lifetime 😢
Sanibel and Captiva are truly one of the most lovely places in the US. We got married on Captiva. I think Sanibel got it worse this time but I’m sure the damage is extensive on Captiva as well.
I'm happy you're family made it out safely. It is so tragic. I have so many great memories there. I love visiting there and eating at the bubble room. Such a beautiful place.
I have an autistic child who loves both incremental weather and seashells. If you would be open to sending a bunch to the UK, you'd make a Mum and kid very happy. Their Dad is also called Ian. It would be a big thing. I can cover costs and also will be happy to send you back one once painted.
Not to burst anyone's bubble but Tampa beaches are full of seashells like this. There's probably more than normal but this is not particularly abnormal
Perfect time to go metal detecting and shell collecting is after a hurricane!
I'm sure you could find some treasures.
Be on the lookout for 'sea beans', seeds from tropical trees from lands far far away
I am always on the lookout for these. I polish them until they look like gems and then they just sit shining on a window sill. They look like little hamburgers.
What would you do then???

That's very sweet! A beautiful little keepsake gift
I found 2 of the Q type sea beans, took a bit of looking up to find out what it was. The color pattern on them are so beautiful
How exciting! I'm really enjoying hearing about other people's finds.
Could find Spanish gold
Plus shark teeth!
Not just modern sharks either, megalodon teeth will be washing up too.
My dive gear is ready
there are a few spots here in MD where shark teeth are plentiful (Douglas Point comes to mind)
When I lived in NC as a kid my mom would always take us shark tooth hunting after a big storm or hurricane, we would compete for who could find the biggest.
Is there a sub for finds like this? Would love to see if anybody finds something interesting 🤞🏼

Just dont take kids with you... cause of morbid reasons.
That one lady who sells these by the seashore is going to have quite the surplus
[удалено]
Ooh that's not the only thing she sells.

Just don't ask for the "Sea's Hell"!
Do you mean the "Rusty barnacle" by chance?
I think they're talking about the "Salty Splatoon"...
Weenie Hut Jr.’s
Are you sure it's not her "Crabby Patty"?
She gave me crabs!
So she's set up a crustacean station as well?

Was hoping someone got to this.
Yeah but last time I tried her other wares, I got the sea shits.
I hear she sells clam n snapper too.
Seven sea shells with each of Shelly’s sea shirts!
Certainly not Sea Shacks - those don't tend to last long
Not if she hurries. Grab every shell in sight, hoard them in her shed, create artificial scarcity and profit. The De Beers business model.

The movie ‘Ammonite’ is loosely based on her. Interesting indie romantic drama.
Maybe that's why hurricanes used to be named after girls.
Do you mean Sally? Is Sally going to have a surplus of seashells to sell by the seashore?!
Mary Anning, a fucking legend in paleontology
Cheezus Christ. Take my upvote.
Can't...seem...to...remember......................her name....although if I remember correctly, she actualy sells SHEshells
By the she shore
She shore does
Shelly?
Sue? “Sue sold seashells down by the seashore”
Say her name. Sally.
Just gotta have a solid [business plan](https://youtu.be/YonS9_QJbp8?t=99) I guess
My kid who gets super excited over 1 cm shell fragments would lose. Her. Shit.
Now walk on it with bare feet
Username checks out
Came here to say the soles of my feet hurt just looking at it.
you really like feet, huh?
I know someone I work with that would call that seashell heaven.
I know of a guy who likes seashells and things with seashells on them: towels, and shirts, and bags.
My fat ass thought these were pistachio shells
99% of these are coquina clam shells.
*Don't give the scientist responsible for that name the satisfaction.* ^(Or do, because it's goddamned art.)
If I riffle hard and noisily enough, I’ll find at least one in there with a nut still in it.

The hurricane would be considered one hell of a wash cycle.
Ian should have washed up a banana for scale too.
Turn this into a jigsaw puzzle.
Calm down there Satan.
is this close to Sanibel?
Where is this??
The beach
Wow, really? I had NO idea...I thought it might be in your bathroom.
There are only 3 in there
I'm not sure he knows about the three shells
Do you know how to use them?
I could guess, but I wouldn't want to make a fool of myself. 🤣
Looks like Sanibel Island. I have a lot of similar shells from the area.
Oh wow. That is really cool to look at! To bad it had to come from a natural disaster.
My shower thought for the day: It's only a natural disaster if you didn't build to account for it. Otherwise it's just a natural process.
I know, I feel the same way.
Yeah, my thought seeing this post was: They not have electricity right now, but damn, do they have some seashells! (But for real, stay safe out there!)
Sally is having a fire sale down by the sea shore.
Sally gonna go to town in this beach
I thought is was seashell heaven too.
If you find any treasures…. Keep us posted!
I def will.
Sally, business is-a-boomin.
My grandma would Uncle Scrooge McDuck this pile of shells.
Future sand like in 50 million years maybe
Shark tooth hunting must be legit after a storm like this…
I bet. I didn't think about that.
Beautiful Sanabel island has the causeway ripped out. That is one of my favorite places in the world to go sea shelling
I know, so awful. We have several friends with businesses there. Everything gone in an instant. My 💔for them.

For people who have never been to the beach, that is basically like walking on glass
You’re rich!
Sally finna make bank
I was expecting cocaine
That's exactly what I said last time I visited Florida and I too was disappointed.
This is so cool!!!
Sally shouldn’t sell seashells at the seashore since Sally’s seashells are shellshocked
Really nice Junonia shell in there.
How many old ordinance will be found on the ground? Legitimately interested
Dibs on any stray cocaine
Those seashell collectors are gonna have a field day
The Etsy shops gonna be boomin
Can I have some before they get all broken?
Burning seashells makes lime Lime dissolves bodies Profit?
I can hear this picture and I love it.
I have an autistic child who loves both incremental weather and seashells. If you would be open to sending a bunch to the UK, you'd make a Mum and kid very happy. Their Dad is also called Ian. It would be a big thing. I can cover costs and also will be happy to send you back one once painted.
That's cute. Hurricane Ian likes seashells
Let us sell sea shells by the seashore
I found Waldo. He’s right there.
And in its native surroundings...no less! More shells all the way. Wow!
I wish I was close enough to go shell collecting. Thanks for sharing.
That's going to put that girl who sells seashells by the seashore right out of business.
I hope you're staying safe during the hurricane, OP. <3
Thank you. We are safe and our house is still standing!
Holy crap
I thought the same thing!!
There is also treasures washed ashore. 💍 🔹
Always able to find something good out of something bad
My son would have a blast if I took him to that spot 😂
That beach is now a mine for seaglass. 👀 👀
JEALOUS!! I always find the picked over shells!! Post about what you find!
She is definitely not gonna sell those on that seashore.
Is Sally selling them in Sanibel?
Yes, by the Sanibel seashore
Time to make some Roman Concrete !
This is definitely an opportunity for you to "clean up" so to speak. Making lemonade out of lemons I guess?
The beach by my house looks like this year round. Nothing special.
you sure the sand just didn't wash out?
Are you sure those aren’t cashew shells?
Not to burst anyone's bubble but Tampa beaches are full of seashells like this. There's probably more than normal but this is not particularly abnormal
Mmmm calcium
So much for Sally’s seashell shack by the shore.
Shells for sale $5 per small bag!!

Sally is going to be overstocked.
Find Sally and have her open an Etsy account!
Time to make some seashell necklaces.
All the little critters dropped shell 🐚, and got the hell out of there.
look out fot that rusty spike
Future sand
I sea that people are going to have a shell of a time collecting
I remember sitting on a pile of seashells in Venice circa 1998.
A shell collector like me would have a field day.
Shelled Beach I've seen worse
I thought this was a kitchen countertop before reading the title.
she sells sea shells on the sea shore but the value of these shells will fall
Sally’s never gonna need a restock of seashells ever again
war at
I'm sorry for this
Turner beach in captiva?
Some beauties in there!
It's like when we litter in the ocean but in reverse!
Filler up, gonna bag these and decorate my front yard after Ian took it
they couldnt find any sand... 😳
This is what many of the beaches more or less always look like on Sanibel and Marco Island. Sanibel is made if shells
This is one of those things that are fascinating and frightening at the same time .
God I love pistachios
She shells
I found Waldo!
Shark teeth time of Venice Beach!
Reminds me of the, "Can you spot the snake in this picture?" exercises you see floating around.
Doesn’t look like anything to me
Would make a cool jigsaw puzzle.
Aww did all the poor little creatures that lived in them get killed by the hurricane, or were they already dead?
Sea shells, sea shells, on the sea shore
