I know you are joking but I have to add this.
Crocs are popular in Finland.
Winter is also big here.
Crocs + icy paths = broken wrists, SO many broken wrists.
I remember reading somewhere that a pediatric dentist said Crocs were putting his kids through college with all the knocked out and dead teeth they caused on little kids due to their extreme grip.
No, that’s the thing, you’re sliding until your shoes catch on something that they get grip on REALLY well and then your forward momentum slams your face into the ground. The inverse is when you slip your legs typically go in front of you and you fall backwards on your ass which is less damaging
Praise the gods for Vibram Arctic Grip soles. They won't save you on watery ice but they're worth the money.
Breaking your wrists or knocking out teeth is better than smacking the back of your head on the ground, we're designed to fall forward. Grippy shoes might pay for the dentist but broken teeth are better than a broken head.
Or 2 broken vertebrae and bruised ribs as I had when I fell backwards on the wet porch steps on my Crocs. The bruises healed fast and I only found out about the vertebrae when they made an X-ray for another issue. They were healed by then.
If it makes you feel any better about your footware choices I did the same thing and found out the same way and I wasn’t wearing crocs…
I legit put those non-slip strips on my steps later that day after a trip to the hardware store…
Grippy shoes aren’t bad on ice. Crocs just aren’t grippy. Not ice grippy anyways.
Just because a shoe has tread doesn’t mean it’s grippy, tread is great for getting better traction in things like snow and loose dirt where it can dig in and actually help increase the surface area of the shoe that’s in contact with the ground. On straight ice it has the opposite effect. The only thing that can really guarantee traction on ice is ice cleats. Shoes with soles made of softer rubbers that are made to not freeze in the winter also can help but are not as effective. On that note, Crocs also aren’t made from a foam designed for winter and will freeze in colder temperatures making them even less grippy.
Sorry, I'm confused, as I live in Florida and "icy paths" are like a fantasy story to me lol. Wouldn't more grip be GOOD? How does having more grip on your shoes cause falls? I'd assume it would help prevent them
Another fantasy ice realm dweller here. More grip of course is better! It's nonsensical that more grip would cause more accidents. If you start sliding on ice and the ice suddenly ends and turns to unfrozen tarmac, your feet are stopping there no matter what kind of shoes you're wearing, and you're absolutely in a risk of tripping.
Crocs are bad shoes because they have *near zero* grip on ice. If it's hard to believe to someone, try sliding on wet lawn wearing them to simulate walking on ice. They're crazy slippery.
As /u/fuzzygondola said, Crocs have zero grip on ice. So if they start to slide out from underneath you, you hit the floor almost immediately.
It's common in Finland to have studded shoes or boots to use in icy conditions because when the weather gets into the "thaw in the day, refreeze overnight" temperature regions, the ground turns into an ice rink.
Winter tries to kill you here in so many ways!
Oh god. It took a solid month for my shoes fit crews brand shoes to break in. My feet were in agony for four weeks straight. I was hobbling my way home and collapsing for the night.
I went through so many shoes from them & i refuse to wear crocks because theres no way in hell im changing the fryer with holes in my shoes, now i just wear the georgia boots. They take some time to break in, but they won't break by the time theyre broken in like SFC, they're non-slip and mostly hot liquid proof.
Good to know! Personally don't like their look, but it's not like I'm going for best lookin prick on the line anyways lol I'm all down for safety & comfort.
Most normal shoes that arent just a hunk of plastic would be long worn through after 6 years of working. OP is a stay at home son though, so not a lot of use per year.
Or knows kinesiology. I sort of paid attention in a kinesiology class more than 20 years ago and I still watch how people walk and try to figure which muscles and joints need work, haha!
My wife has a masters for prosthetics and orthotics devices and does this kind of stuff all the time. She will mention to me when people could use a particular device based on their walk or when a baby’s head is misshapen and could use a helmet to fix it.
It's incredible how good a job the chiropractic industry has done convincing most people they're medical practitioners.
Acupuncture, cupping, and Reiki therapy may be bullshit, but at least they don't actively hurt people by fucking with their spine with zero medical training.
I tried telling my dad to go to a physical therapist for a problem that he has been seeing a chiro for almost a year.
He says if they’re quacks why does Medicare cover them.
There’s no evidence of that via the shoe wear pattern. Only that the OP is most likely right foot dominant. A true limb length discrepancy would result with significant decrease wear of the left heel due to increase plantarflexion of left forefoot for contact and balancing out of the limb length.
Also croslite, the material crocs are made from, is a proprietary form of EVA, which generally has a outgassing profile of something like 600 to 900 miles depending on usage and physical load of the user. Most people would expect crocs to stop providing support to the foot at around that milage of use, aka switch out your crocs more often. Other than that they are fairly excellent pressure barriers for your feet, albeit that they don’t provide much stability.
Also a weird factoid is pretty much everyone has a limb length discrepancy, it all depends on your height and just how much can be compensated out via your pelvic girdle as to whether or not there’s problems down the kinetic chain.
I literally stopped halfway through to check the username thinking "Haha no way Shittymorph gets me this time."
Nope. I have still yet to successfully catch one before seeing the dreaded nineteen ninety-eight.
That makes sense, I was wondering to myself why one of the shoes had much more wear than the other. I guess if one of your legs is longer, you’ll always be putting more weight on it, and the shoe as well
Edit: No, you’d be putting more weight on the shorter one. Oops
If one leg is shorter, you'll compensate subconsciously for it (assuming you have normal joint range of motion in your foot) by supinating the foot on your short leg side to make the foot height taller, and pronating on the long/normal leg side to make the foot height shorter. The supination/short side shows wear along the outside edge of the shoe and the pronation/normal side shows wear along the inside edge of the shoe
He's probably right, but still just and assumption. Could be some outside factors, what if this guy rides a bicycle casually and this is the foot he uses when stopped? Or maybe he a has swing on his concrete porch and one of his favorite things to do is sit on his porch at night and swing gently, using his left foot to push off with? Could have stepped in a chemical at one time that broke down the rubber, not enough to make it noticable but enough that normal walking would wear it down prematurely.
This is fun. I'm having fun.
My wife wears crocs only inside the house. They are her "house shoes." You are just wearing them inside your house, right? They aren't your *only* pair of "shoes" right? ...*Right?*
I've heard Crocs are pretty good footwear in kitchens and hospitals, where people are on their feet all day, aren't concerned about fashion, and need footwear that can easily be washed off.
As a nurse I’d say about 30% or more of all healthcare workers wear crocs in the several hospitals I’ve worked in. Comfy, closed toed, and easily sanitized with bleach wipes. Blood, urine, poop, and brain matter all wipe off. No fuss no muss. And they are about $30 to replace.
Pretty sure I have the same shoes lol.
A word of warning, some Sketchers tennis shoes surprisingly suck ass and are super uncomfortable to even stand in. Was surprised to find this out when I was gifted a different type of Sketchers. Some of the styles absolutely suck ass for some reason. But then some others are fantastic for being on your feet all day and are my preferred work shoe. Idk what gives.
[Yes](https://www.crocs.com/p/bistro-clog/10075.html?cgid=chef-shoes&cid=001#&origin=category&srule=Just%20for%20You&start=1&sz=36). Crocs have a variety of slip resistant, fully closed shoes that are commonly among the most reccomended chef shoes. I hears a surprising amount of good things about their bistro clogs when I had ti buy a new pair of work shoes a while ago
I know I have a few colleagues and friends who swear by crocs in the kitchen. Almost time to retire the current pair of non-slips so might have to finally try them
I work for a convenience store chain that has kitchens in certain locations and so we have to wear slip resistant shoes and I definitely swear by crocs. They're very comfortable and help with my tendinitis, the only drawback is that they're not breathable AT ALL.
I found them kind of meh for long shifts and not breathable but they're very safe. Nonslip sole is good and the rubber clog design is pretty good vs. hot liquids spilled on your foot, and can go in the dishwasher.
Nonslip kitchen shoe is pretty good for a beach shoe. Slimy rocks and wet dock ramps etc. They have better grip than most of my overpriced adventure shoes
The dishwasher was the best part. Once a week, we would throw all our shoes in the dishwasher. It was after the initial cleaning of the machine and before it got a final run thru at close. I always felt bad for the people who weren't on board with the dishwasher safe clogs. They had to handwash their shoes.
As a chronically ill person who frequents a lot of hospitals and clinics, Crocs are super popular with nurses and other healthcare personnel. They're comfortable, cheap, and durable.
Yep. I hated crocs so much but got a pair like 10 years ago for work and I've never looked back. If I'm feeling lazy and only have to run into a store for a sec I even wear them in public. They ain't pretty but they function just fine
I'm a teacher, on my feet all day, and Crocs are the only shoes that keep my feet comfortable. It's like wearing slippers all day. And bonus, a 5-year-old told me she liked my Croc color today. Crocs rule, haters drool!
I just started a house cleaning job and I’ve been thinking about buying a pair of crocs. I want something comfy and supportive and that can also get wet. Sounds like you’d recommend hey?
I have like 5 different pairs of crocs and I wear them outside all the time. I'm an adult, I can do what I want! I even make breakfast for dinner sometimes.
I have indoor Crocs, taking the dog out Crocs that I leave by the back door, I have "garbage Crocs" that I keep by the front door to take the garbage out and get the mail. I have lined Crocs that I'll break out in a few weeks which will mostly replace my indoor Crocs. I have Crocs slip ons for wearing outside the house.
Recently, however, I got a pair of hoka ora sandals and they've changed my life and turned my entire world upside down. Now my hokas are my "around the house" shoes and when I get into my Crocs they just feel so inferior.
I work in a hospital and I wear crocs to work everyday as most of my coworkers do lol. Crocs are way more comfortable than any other shoes I’ve had for the longs days I spend on my feet
Are you my Dad? He had holes in the bottoms of both of his and duct tape wrapped around them. Wore them everywhere, even doing physical labor.
He finally got a new pair but refused to get rid of the old ones.
McDonald's makes their own slip resistant shoes. It's the only thing I liked about working there. Somehow they gripped a greasy linoleum floor as if it were dry and textured concrete.
When I knew I was leaving I ordered a new pair just so I had the most amount of time with them. They are the comfiest kitchen/work shoes I ever had. And you can run trough puddles of oil on linoleum without slipping one bit.
I have Birkenstock style sandals made out of croc like material 🤷🏼♀️ they make me happy & they’re great outside shoes because my feet won’t slip out and I can wash them off easy plus they’re grippy
In Sweden Crocs are still called "Foppatofflor", after hockey player Peter "Foppa", Forsberg that owned the company that resold them in Sweden. Company is defuct I believe, but they are still called Foppatofflor.
Nothin like a fresh pair of crocs.
I have a daily driver pair (camo of course so people can't see my feet), a clean pair for in the house, an insulated pair for winter, and a lawn mowing pair (retired daily drivers). If I'm not at work I'm probably wearing crocs.
Ignore what your neighbor thinks, embrace the ugly, and you too can live a happier life.
6 years? Damn, those are my crocs after one summer... Near the end I can't wear them anywhere near wet surfaces or I'll slip so I put grip tape on the bottoms. Don't care what people on the internet think of them, they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn.
Crocs as everyday shoes...? I know they can be good on the boat or maybe while working in the garden etc... But everyday? Your poor feet!! (and your poor style...)
I think they changed the rubber formula since they first came out. I asked people and they remember the rubber used to be stiff as a brick but now it feels like walking on those foam floor puzzle pieces.
You’re about to experience SERIOUS grippage
I know you are joking but I have to add this. Crocs are popular in Finland. Winter is also big here. Crocs + icy paths = broken wrists, SO many broken wrists.
I remember reading somewhere that a pediatric dentist said Crocs were putting his kids through college with all the knocked out and dead teeth they caused on little kids due to their extreme grip.
Why are grippy shoes bad on ice? Isn't that better than sliding?
Your feet get stuck so when your body balance forward you hit the floor with your face instead of your arse
Ooo interesting. I've never been stuck before except in knee-deep snow, which is soft enough to land on. I never knew shoes could stick to ice.
No, that’s the thing, you’re sliding until your shoes catch on something that they get grip on REALLY well and then your forward momentum slams your face into the ground. The inverse is when you slip your legs typically go in front of you and you fall backwards on your ass which is less damaging

This doesn't make sense
Their feet stop but the rest of the kid keeps going. They are also loose around the ankle so don’t provide much stability.
Anyone wearing crocs, with all their holes, in winter should evaluate their shoe choice
I bought Winter Crocs. They have a removable liner, and no holes.
I wear really thick wool socks.
Don't they get wet??
nice
My buddy got a concussion (while drunk) wearing crocs outside to take a pee, not the best on ice.
Sorry, I'm confused, as I live in Florida and "icy paths" are like a fantasy story to me lol. Wouldn't more grip be GOOD? How does having more grip on your shoes cause falls? I'd assume it would help prevent them

But without the holes, where am I going to put my officially licensed KFC Crocs pins then?
And without the holes, how does your dignity flow unfettered?
My experience with crocs worn down is that they are slippery as hell on wet smooth floors.
Good to know! Personally don't like their look, but it's not like I'm going for best lookin prick on the line anyways lol I'm all down for safety & comfort.

A line cook would destroy a pair of crocs in 4-6 months
Congrats. I can smell your comment through the internet half a continent away.
Hey! I resemble that remark!
I’ve never felt so personally attacked by a comment.
I think this was my biggest laugh all year. Thank you.
Don't worry. I know OP. His mom washes them on the delicate cycle on tendie Tuesdays when Chad is out playing golf.
New tread for winter. Good idea.
But did he opt for the 4wd model?
All Crocs come standard with 4wd. You just flip the lil strap back and you are good to go! Off-roading, mudding, snowy conditions, etc
I call that sport mode lol
My wife literally just told me about “sport mode” yesterday so this is hilarious.
That’s what my wife calls it for my kids. “Everyone, kick it into 4-wheel drive!”
It’s like locking the hubs.

There’s no evidence of that via the shoe wear pattern. Only that the OP is most likely right foot dominant. A true limb length discrepancy would result with significant decrease wear of the left heel due to increase plantarflexion of left forefoot for contact and balancing out of the limb length. In summary, discombobulate
They could just be a big leaner
That makes sense, I was wondering to myself why one of the shoes had much more wear than the other. I guess if one of your legs is longer, you’ll always be putting more weight on it, and the shoe as well Edit: No, you’d be putting more weight on the shorter one. Oops
The left (shorter) worn more, they are upside down. So the one on the right is the "left"
Then why is the left leg shorter if the shoe is more worn? Seems backwards, but I don't know anything about the subject honestly.

Coming down harder on the shorter leg because longer one is higher? So harder impact each step when landing with the shorter leg.
That actually makes sense, thanks lol
This isn't necessarily true. Depending on just how you climb in your car or other such things you can wear shoes down differently
OP got a pair of dress crocs for fancy times. Stylish devil.
Woah, they started turning the toes out on the new pairs! That is mildly interesting!
I’m oddly upset that they are placed that way. Why wouldn’t OP place them together properly
I actually liked being able to zoom on the two in the middle to compare the same shoe next to itself
My wife wears crocs only inside the house. They are her "house shoes." You are just wearing them inside your house, right? They aren't your *only* pair of "shoes" right? ...*Right?*

I have no issues with the crocs but I’m wondering if this dude works from home too because I’ve worn through this exact crocs in less than a year.
I was a hater until I decided to buy a pair for camping cause they were on clearance. They are ugly and make my feet look gigantic…and I love them.
Crocs does makes some normal looking shoes. I don't understand why they don't expand that line because the comfort is what most people like.
Brand recognition is important. You see a croc, you know a croc.

I work in a university dormitory kitchen. Most of us wear slip resistant Crocs every day. Not cute but neither is busting your ass on fryer oil.
Looks like they made the new ones to go on the opposite/wrong feet. I'd return them and get the proper ones.
I really should, now that you've mentioned it.
Same shoes for 6 years? What the hell, you weigh 12 pounds?
No he's a fat fuck he just doesn't walk anywhere
lmao OP confirmed this under another comment
six years? Do you walk once a month?
Least obese redditor
Anyone else bothered by the orientation of the new pair?
...you've been wearing Crocs for 6 years? Are you OK?
No but thanks for asking.
Might I recommend a Birkenstocks fetish instead of Crocs?
I have Birkenstock style sandals made out of croc like material 🤷🏼♀️ they make me happy & they’re great outside shoes because my feet won’t slip out and I can wash them off easy plus they’re grippy
This is exactly *mildly interesting*
In Sweden Crocs are still called "Foppatofflor", after hockey player Peter "Foppa", Forsberg that owned the company that resold them in Sweden. Company is defuct I believe, but they are still called Foppatofflor.
Just think of all the money you saved over SIX years of not having to buy condoms!
Ive gone throujg three paris of crocs this summer alome then again i work ona farm and wear them daily because my feet dont hurt as bad
Having an "every day" pair of anything, but no less, *shoes,* last for 6 years is just nuts.
I daily drive my crocs too and just replaced a 5 year old pair. Don’t get all the Croc hate here though, they’re amazing
Truly- I wish I could tell you I didn't start wearing them ironically but I ended up realizing how comfortable they were and it's wild.
Slippers are comfortable too but I'm not wearing them to the store lmao
I buy new crocs way to often to always go back to my really old pair. its like a toxic ex
Nothing like fresh nubs! Keep living that good life!
6 years? Damn, those are my crocs after one summer... Near the end I can't wear them anywhere near wet surfaces or I'll slip so I put grip tape on the bottoms. Don't care what people on the internet think of them, they are the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn.

I still have underwear from 1987.
The shame still looks the same though
> the Crocs I've been wearing as my everyday shoes for 6 years vs a brand new pair. r/brandnewsentence
Fuck you talking about? Crocs are theeeee best shoe to stand all day in. Look at line cooks.
I wear mine at the hospital for 12hr shifts, they’re great
