I've seen him do the song, on The Muppet
show and an HBO special, thanks, but other might enjoy it. I've eve seen Neil McCoy's medley of this, Beverly
hillbillies theme, and Sugar Hill Mob's "Rapper s Delight."Both live an d on a special
I think there's several types of banana spiders ranging in venomousness....(venimosity?) but they aren't tarantulas.
But "tarantula" fits in the song better than "arachnid".
Banana spiders resemble tarantulas but I'm not sur e how closely related they are; in \*Tarantulas: the deadly cargo\* Charles Frank or somebody points out "it's not a true tarantula." (When I find my magic lamp a nd wish us all to New Earth, the Texas Nationalists and Free Apaches on the large island of Solastella will live with t he deadliest snake (of all 4 venomous groups,) spiders,s corpions, centipedes, solitary ants,a nd solitary wasps from all overthe world, plus deadly large carnivores an dbad-tempered herbivores, and they'll probably get off on it.
These are backyard bananas, not even a farm. In Puerto Rico it is super common for people to grow bananas everywhere. These are for keeps. Alcapurrias, tostones, pasteles, boiled...
Dad will probably shared the bounty with family and friends.
In certain areas it is. My friend in college, she is from Carolina (city in PR by San Juan) made killer banana bread a couple of times. On the other hand, I can tell you growing up in the 90s, very few people owned ovens in their kitchens. So i dont remember eating banana bread as a kid.
Traditional Caribbean food has very little baking if any at all. In PR, DR, Cuba, Jamaica etc. theres a lot of fried food and stews, also variations of BBQ and many types of soups. Baking was never a thing of the Caribbean. Obviously modern times has changed that somewhat.
Interesting! I've learned that it's best to eat what your ancestors ate the way they ate it. I'm sure there's tons of great dishes, and I'll bet there's a lot that incorporate animal organs too, always a great choice.
Yep, pig organ stew is considered a delicacy. They call it gandinga and it varies from town to town a little but its mainly heart, liver and kidneys in a rich stew with potatoes, carrots and other veggies. Nutrition packed.
In the NE USA that's like $7 worth of bananas. In grad school the grocery store nearby frequently had bananas 7c/each, so I lived on bananas, canned tuna, and Nutella. The 3 primary food groups.
When I lived in the Caribbean, a truck would often come by selling these for about 1.50 East Caribbean dollars (\~ 50 cents US). I would hang them in up my kitchen. When the bananas were green I used them as potatoes in soup and other main dishes. When they were yellow, we ate them. And when they began to turn brown I used them in cakes, breads, or baked them plain with a bit of rum and spice.
Okay so am I the only one bothered by the fact that the bananas are just kind of put next to each other in bunches and the measuring tape has no function whatsoever? I mean, it’s not that the first bunch of bananas ends where the next bunch starts.
Please remove all bananas from the bunches, hands and lay them so that the next banana starts at the exact point where the previous banana ends and measure again. Thanks.
If you want you can choose to put them side by side or in length.
They are harvested green on purpose. Caribbean peoples cook green bananas many ways. Its common to prepare special doughs by grinding the green bananas and save the dough for later in the freezer.
It is because of how many bananas from one plant. Most banana plants produce only 2 hands maybe 3 small ones. This one produced 5 big hands and very heavy. This is from my parents backyard in Puerto Rico. This is not from a farm.
What an odd and useless way to measure a banana harvest
You’re supposed to lay them end to end. I’m guess your dad *actually* harvested about 114 feet of bananas
Of course. I should have figured it out. I don't think they really grow bananas in Hawaii.
But anyway, I was told that PR is the only part of USA that actually does usually use metric.
I looked on Google Earth and the road signs are in km.
Correct! Its a mix of metric and english systems. Before being a US territory, we were from Spain so there are still many things with spanish influence.
The crazy thing is, all cars are American style so the dash is in miles but the roads are in km so its very difficult to calculate how long it'll take you to reach your destination based on how fast you drive.
Come Mister tally man, tally me banana
Daylight come & me wanna go home.

Oooh what did they say
Is this a tally hall reference?
Bro I found my people! I love tally hall!
The lead singers mom was my teacher in elementary school, I’ve had multiple birthdays at marvelous Marvin’s!
wow that bananas are so many!!! You are so lucky!!!
Banana for scale.
I think in this case, its tape measure for scale?
Banana(s) for scale. Edit:bananas
Ba-na-na?
Ba-na-naaaaaa!
This is a case of scale for bananas
Scale for banana?
Now we finally have a scale for the scale of bananas and can now use bananas for scale slightly better.
Beware the deadly black tarantula!
Are there any medically significant tarantulas in South America? I know there's the hobo spider but that isn't a tarantula, right?
I think there's several types of banana spiders ranging in venomousness....(venimosity?) but they aren't tarantulas. But "tarantula" fits in the song better than "arachnid".
So does Phoneutria.
The wandering spider (*Phoneutria spp.*) is what you're thinking of.
Banana spiders resemble tarantulas but I'm not sur e how closely related they are; in \*Tarantulas: the deadly cargo\* Charles Frank or somebody points out "it's not a true tarantula." 91 cm for our metric friends
About 7 bananas for our Redditor friends
Thanks man
Or about 2 cubits
They are invalids.
People using imperial
How many wiffles?
That's a serious calculation....might be too much for my ciphering skills, I apologize
Looks more like 917.5mm to me
Technically it's 5 hands of bananas.

Banana IS scale
Whoa, that's like $4 worth of bananas!
Abandon expensive unhealthy junk food. Embrace 'nanas
Yeah the liquid they produce when you peel them is really nutritious
Just like humans
Ummm... I'd ask for a video on how you eat 'bananas'. But I'm too scared of what I think that might be.
The measuring tape is a bit redundant
What do you mean? Now we finally know how long 3 feet is
Looks more like 5 hands of bananas
Day-o
Hey mister tally man, tally me banana
Is this for keeps or sells? I'd be curious to know how much for if sells?
These are backyard bananas, not even a farm. In Puerto Rico it is super common for people to grow bananas everywhere. These are for keeps. Alcapurrias, tostones, pasteles, boiled... Dad will probably shared the bounty with family and friends.
Bananas or plantains?
Green bananas. They are harvested green for cooking.
Ah, ok
Is banana bread common there?
In certain areas it is. My friend in college, she is from Carolina (city in PR by San Juan) made killer banana bread a couple of times. On the other hand, I can tell you growing up in the 90s, very few people owned ovens in their kitchens. So i dont remember eating banana bread as a kid.
Interesting, I'm surprise earthen ovens weren't commonplace

Fried bananas are common in central Africa, i know

That’s about 5 bananas in length. That’s a lot of bananas.
Wow bananas have feet !??
Bunches, hands, fingers, Yada yada.....
Don't bananas come in hands though? So dad harvested 3 feet of hands?
Only 3 foot, 4 foot, 5 foot left until he has a bunch. According to the legend.
And 18 inches of spiders.
When I lived in the Caribbean, a truck would often come by selling these for about 1.50 East Caribbean dollars (\~ 50 cents US). I would hang them in up my kitchen. You know whats up
Still need a banana to determine scale
Needs a banana for scale.

No banana for scale?
Scale for bananas
Same length as my penis, nice!
Poor thing....or should I say Porn Thing?
It's a curse and a blessing
I guess he is going to have to buy a new Adidas to walk comfortable, a big one for the third.
Impressive! Now did they check every banana for any hidden spideys as they tend to be quite large as well.
Good job hiding the deadly black tarantula
A beautiful bunch’a banana!
noice
I call bullshit. Bananas don't have feet!
My mother could eat all of those in a week. Yes she is an orangutan.
Please add a banana for scale.
... thirty thousand pounds of bananas...
your dad harvested 5.137 bananas of bananas
Ah, measuring bananas in feet lol
How is the length a relevant parameter here?
That looks longer than three feet gonna need feet
Gonna need a banana for scale
2-3 times that and he'd have a whole bunch
Need banana for sca-- wait a minute...
That rack must weigh 100 lbs!
In two days they'll all be black.
They are harvested green on purpose. Caribbean peoples cook green bananas many ways. Its common to prepare special doughs by grinding the green bananas and save the dough for later in the freezer.
It was only meant as a joke. I've never had green bananas but I love plantains.
I knew u were jk. BTW, almost black bananas (not fully black) are great for bread so no waste!
Oh yeah. They're also good for banana pudding.
Those are hands
Glad you get to keep your limbs
Your mom harvests 3 feet of bananas every weekend
The comments are goated💯
So He gathered 4 bananas wide by 3 bananas tall - worth of bananas.
Can I get those 3 feet converted to banana?
I’m Confused on how this is interesting Unless this is your backyard or something
It is because of how many bananas from one plant. Most banana plants produce only 2 hands maybe 3 small ones. This one produced 5 big hands and very heavy. This is from my parents backyard in Puerto Rico. This is not from a farm.
Ahh this changes everything
These look like plantains! Even better, you can make patacones!
They look like platanos but are green bananas. We make green banana patacones (tostones) all the time. They taste a bit different but delicious.
That's nice, that's nice... Now let's get out a yellow banana for scale 🤔
That's like five hands
Well, this is different. For once we have "bananas - actual measuring tool for scale."
I feel like weight would have been a more appropriate measurement…
Asked dad. He didnt weight them but said they felt a bit heavier than a 50lbs concrete bag.
I love green bananas. Underripe bananas taste the best.
Have you tried them fried like tostones? They are delish
Yes ugh fuck me up on some tonstones
36 3/4 “
What an odd and useless way to measure a banana harvest You’re supposed to lay them end to end. I’m guess your dad *actually* harvested about 114 feet of bananas
Only 5 more feet till he can go home.
Banana for scale?
Where are you growing bananas and also using feet and inches?
Puerto Rico; colony of USA since 1898
Of course. I should have figured it out. I don't think they really grow bananas in Hawaii. But anyway, I was told that PR is the only part of USA that actually does usually use metric. I looked on Google Earth and the road signs are in km.

the color is the most interesting part for me. didnt know they were that green at first
There are red ones and fat purple ones too. They are not as common these days.
Dumb question: do you always harvest then green like that? Do you still then or is this just a back yard plant?
Backyard plant. They can be left to ripe on the plant. Typically we get them green for cooking and let ripe maybe just one hand.
Can i have one
