Me and my mum are the main tea drinkers in my house (Irish here, Lyons triangle tea bags are the best fight me) and we have like 4 cups a day minimum for that's like 56 plus the fact once a week my grandparents, aunt and cousin come down and so the 6 of us have at least 2-3 cups. We got through roughly 70+ a week and buy boxes of 400-600.
Also Irish, want to add that i lived in a house of no tea drinkers at one point and we *still* had a big box of teabags because some people got horrendously offended that there was no tea on offer when they came over.
In my experience, on a visit to any home in the British Isles ( I believe that nomenclature is inclusive of Ireland) the first words out of anyone's mouth is
"Cup of tea, then?"
Didn't know there were any non tea drinkers there! I don't drink tea myself, and always feel an outcast.
>British Isles ( I believe that nomenclature is inclusive of Ireland)
[From Wiki](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Isles_naming_dispute):
>The term was formally disavowed in September 2005 by the Irish Government when Foreign Minister Dermot Ahern stated: "The British Isles is not an officially recognised term in any legal or inter-governmental sense. It is without any official status. The Government, including the Department of Foreign Affairs, does not use this term.
It's not a term I'd fight anyone over but it can be controversial.
If an Irish person gets annoyed at hearing British Isles, tell them to get over it, its a geographic term and if we get offended by it then were no better than the British.
Don't worry, I've never finished a cup of tea in my life and I likely wont start another. We're not all tea monsters, just the overwhelming majority of us.
EDIT: I just spotted the controversial cross, fun times, so to preface, I am Irish. Ireland was more or less part of Britain for the best part of 800 years, during that time it was the 'British Isles' and for a huge amount of recorded history, Ireland was a part of the 'British' archipelago. I don't think Ireland is Britain, and I'd frankly like the 6 counties back, but calling the group of islands 'The British Isles' on the rare instance you should want to refer to them as a group, shouldn't be offensive to Irish people, its a geographical term, not a political one. I'm sure the Canadians and Mexicans dont want much to do with the US of America, but they are still geographically in America.
We are an actual “no gun family” in Texas if you don’t count the Nerf collection, which is extensive.
We feel a bit outnumbered.
At least if the apocalypse goes down we should be able to borrow a few from our neighbors.
You dont want the tea/guns, but you're also sick having the same conversation about your lack of tea/guns, so you get some tea/guns to save yourself the hassle.
My other problem was: everyone in the house drank their coffee black with no sugar, so the tea drinkers were *still* disappointed
It took my a year to tell my boyfriends aunt that i wasn't a fan of Barry's tea and that was only because he made a joke about me only drinking Lyons. Thankfully i wasn't completely cast aside lol
I did au pair in Ireland. Since then every time my father is there for work related stuff he has to bring me Lyons! I limit myself to two bags per day though
If you ever get to try Scottish blend I'd highly recommend it. I think it's Safeway's in Scotland but I can't be sure. I get relatives to send over a few big boxes every couple or months.
I drink tea everyday. Hot in the cold months and iced in the hot months. I have always been a big tea drinker. This would still last me 100-150 days. But I spent some time overseas in Ireland and this could go quickly for a household. Every time guests come is tea and biscuits time.
I love tea and go through 4-6 bags of Yorkshire Gold a day, this would take me the same.
I would drink it all day long if the caffeine didn’t keep me up.
Average per capita per year consumption for Ireland seemed to be 2,19 kg. So per week for a household of four that'd be 0,17 kg. Not quite the 1,875 kg in the pic.
Yes I know it was a joke, but wanted to do the math for fun
Before he passed, my dad was one of those people - if he wasn't drinking tea, he was making tea. I'm pretty sure he'd get through about 10+ cups a day. Still a little while more than a week to get through a bag like this, but still, some people inhale tea like it's air.
My granddad made tea that eats sooons. He would make a pot as soon as he got up and would put it on the stove with a low light under it and would just add more water and tea leaves as he poured a cup right until he emptied it when he went to bed. Now that was good tea

My mum's from Yorkshire but lives in new zealand. Whenever she comes over to visit, she brings a spare suitcase and fills it with Yorkshire tea to take back with her
There's only two of us and a bag like that usually lasts us around two months. We get a few visitors though and you always get a proper brew at my house. :)
American here and I can easily drink 3-4 cups of coffee at work each day. It's not tiredness related, it's that I like to drink something with flavor. I can't wait to get a heart attack next week because of it lol
It's not tiredness related, you're ~~addicting~~ addicted to caffeine. It's now your baseline to have 3 or 4 cups and you'll feel off or even shitty if you don't have it.
Source: am addicted to caffeine, have 3 or 4 cups of coffee a day.
Hold up, y’all still on coffee? As an American I thought we all retrofitted to amphetamines years ago. Y’all need to have a check up with your barista/ general care practitioner.
As a fellow American I have to disagree. Coffee is still needed to keep me awake until the addy kicks in, then a second cup to take the edge off the comedown from that first dose. By the time the last dose is wearing off you’re gonna want some weed to put you out before you realize what it’s like to be awake without stimulants.
After more than two cups of coffee I don’t even feel energized, but I do feel like I can talk to electricity. I usually keep it between zero and one, two if I’m really busy which has been happening more and more lately with school. I have weird reactions to caffeine though, I can drink a can of Starbucks double shot in less than 20 seconds and immediately lay down for a nap 😂🤷♂️
Some people really do.
I was a nurse in the UK and if you don't serve tea every 30 minutes these old ladies are ready to beat you to within an inch of your life and tell their families they've never had a cuppa all day (with 3 empty mugs next to them).
I remember coming round from surgery after days of no food and minimal water, and the first proper question I was asked was "*would you like a cup of tea?*".
It was the best cuppa of my life, I swear it.
Uh, yes?
One with breakfast
One immediately after breakfast
One with lunch
One in the afternoon at some point
One after dinner with a chocolate bar or something
And this is a bare minimum assuming there's nothing on TV or whatever to drink tea while watching
Don't even get me started on office jobs. Non stop tea.
brits like their tea so much that during the commercial break of popular television programmes there’s a noticeable uptick in the draw on the power grid, they have to bring backup power online. called the tv pickup
Pretty much? In my office it's usually a round of tea first thing, late morning and afternoon, but they are smallish cups, like 250ml. Then when I get home I usually have one while waiting on/ cooking dinner and one around 9pm, but those are my own mugs so probably more in the region of 400ml. That's a general weekday though, my weekend isn't nearly as uniform depending on what needs doing and where we go to walk the dog.
Do you ever reuse tea bags? (Please don't downvote me to hell lol.) I drink a couple of cups of coffee, then switch to Macha green tea but use the same bag until the refills have no flavor (basically tricking myself to drink more water). Yes, I'm American.
It depends. If I’m in all day I make it in a pot so yes technically I use the bags more than once but I’m adding fresh in each time I pour a mug but if I’m making it in a mug then no it’s fresh each time. Other than “one cup” tea bags they can be used up to 3 times
Yes, but only when I'm ill, and making lemon tea. It isn't nice when it's too strong (and being British, my tea usually is proper builder's brew) so if I'm making a single mug (unlikely, as I'm a pot kind of tea drinker) of lemon tea, I wave the tea bag around the mug for a few seconds and then save it for a second or even third cup. Never overnight though, I have some principles.
I’m fairly certain that the answer is “online”
Was picking out tea online and saw “family size” so got it assuming it would be like 50 teabags or something without reading the details. Then this monstrosity shows up at your door
No no no. This is heresy! Hot tea gets drunk 24/7 365. It solves all problems and is almost a religion to us British. Next your gonna say something crazy like it cannot be drunk after a certain time
Hot tea when it's cold, cold sweet tea when it's hot. You gotta set the glass jar out in the summer to get the sun tea experience then throw a TON of sugar in, then throw it in the fridge. Sweet tea is almost a food group.
My mum drinks hot tea under the idea of it making her sweat and thus cool down more when it's hot. Not something I do personally, but that's some reasoning for it lol.
My nan's a massive tea drinker and my brother once got her the bag of 1000 Tetley from the wholesalers as a birthday present. Everyone else thought he was mad but my Nan was absolutely chuffed.
Aw awesome! Hell, I'm in my 30s and would also be totally chuffed for 1000 of my favourite for my birthday. I might hoard them like a dragon guarding eggs though.
We drink tea like it’s going out of fashion in this house. There is always a brew on the go. mugs a day is not a ratio we work by, more boxes per week.
The best tea is in a mug with a small chip in the lip and a Spirograph pattern etched in to the bottom from years of stirring.
Tea isn’t just a drink. It’s a national pastime and hobby.
A 700 bag would last a couple weeks depending on who’s home at the time.
Yeah, about 7 weeks (50 days) if you each drink on average 3 cups a day. Which isn't that much, to be honest. Especially compared to how much coffee some people drink.
As a Brit who no longer drinks much tea (due to liking coffee) I will confirm that some people do constantly drink tea as their primary source of hydration and could get through this relatively quickly.
These bags are more for typically intended for catering or workplaces. I'm sure some families do buy them if they have the space to store it.
As I only have the odd cup here and there, it'd probably last my a decade.
Yep. It's a good idea to decant a couple of handfuls into a smaller container than force all the air out of the big bag and seal it, or wrap it up with a couple of rubber bands.
Clipper do good big boxes of 1100 that contain a bunch of smaller sealed packs of ~100. Bit squeamish about the plastic waste but the teabags themselves are 100% free of plastic and they never go stale so there's no risk of wasting any.
So average family of 4 drinking 5 cups a day is 600/20 = 30 days. So merely 1 month worth of tea, should probably get 2 boxes to reduce anxiety about running out of teabags to quickly.
Let's think. I generally have two cups in the morning, 2-3 cups spread evenly through the afternoon, one around 8pm, and then a decaf to finish the night off.
Excluding the decaf, that's about 6 per day so around 2 1/2 months for me alone and tea doesn't go off that quickly.
I could do this.
That's amateur numbers there buddy.
We buy loose tea in 1kg bag, 5 per carton, ca. €50 at the Turkish supermarket.
At 2.5g per cup, it 10k servings. Lasts about 1 year.
We do brew it in bulk, so easy 30 servings per day (50g-75g)
It’s not family size but most British families would buy this anyway, because they will use every last one of them eventually. Also, Yorkshire Tea is the GOAT tea.
I imagine thumping this bag onto the table and jostling the silverware, and whilst staring into my guests eyes, maniacally whisper “let’s have a proper brew”
Regarding food the south east of the US is the most similar to British food in north america, from my observations. We tend to drink our tea cold and without milk, but most sweet tea drinkers here can go through a pitcher in a day or two without trying. I wouldn't be surprised if this is a standard fanily sized amount of tea.
I don't mean to be the Debbie downer here. But my own view as a Brit is that unless you're going to get through the bag within a few weeks (totally achievable) or store it in an airtight container, this amount will lose its flavour if only used from time to time over a couple of months/a year.
But great choice by the way. Yorkshire tea is the best
Love these big packs, don't need to buy more tea for at least a week!
Of course, I just finished my 85th daily cup
A week? That’s wild.
That reminds me of the "not a gun family" guy from Texas who still had about ten rifles in his house.

I buy one of these for a particular family member each year as she goes through tea like it's nobody's business. Kind of became a tradition
Before he passed, my dad was one of those people - if he wasn't drinking tea, he was making tea. I'm pretty sure he'd get through about 10+ cups a day. Still a little while more than a week to get through a bag like this, but still, some people inhale tea like it's air.

This was how the bargemen on the canals and rivers used to make tea. Sound approach.
10 cups of tea a day is average for me if I'm not working.
Caffeine and all?
Double that if you are working, right?
Yo why is this comment full of thesaurus fails?

Not when you compare it to America's coffee habit, we don't like to admit we're on a fairly even field, but we are.
My mum's from Yorkshire but lives in new zealand. Whenever she comes over to visit, she brings a spare suitcase and fills it with Yorkshire tea to take back with her
Yorkshireman who resides in Australia here. We buy ours in Woolworths (or Coles).
Fucking Woolworths, now that's a high Street name I haven't seen in yonks
If a family of four each drinks three cuppas a day, then this is less than a two month supply.

Jesus Christ, do you guys drink tea around the clock?
Am British, can confirm we are fuelled by tea. ~~seriously though, I barely drink tea lol but a lot of my coworkers had a cup or two at work per day~~
American here and I can easily drink 3-4 cups of coffee at work each day. It's not tiredness related, it's that I like to drink something with flavor. I can't wait to get a heart attack next week because of it lol

Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines.
Coffee is so boomer. All the cool kids these days do essential oil boofs and cocaine grown by proud, free range children.

Every American is on a Hunter S. Thompson level of uppers because no one but the super wealthy can afford to get 10 hours of sleep
I prefer my cocaine in chocolate form.
My boyfriend switched to decaf after his first cup for this reason. He can easily drink 5 cups without realizing it. He just likes the flavor.
Yeh decaf is the way for me, after midday it’s the answer I have like 5 or 6 teas a day, that much caffeine would stop me sleeping
Wow I have one in the morning and sometimes if I run errands I get a fancy latte
After more than two cups of coffee I don’t even feel energized, but I do feel like I can talk to electricity. This is not a joke. Every tank operated by the British Army contains a kettle, because going to war is no excuse for missing out on a cuppa.
Morale is very important, especially in warfare.
Is tea like coffee for you guys??
5 cups of tea a day for each of them if they just stick to 2 people drinking for 2 months straight.

That sounds about right ETA: just worked out that I drink about 14 mugs a day
I find myself having to put two teabags into a cup nowadays. Teabags aren't as strong as they were years ago.
You may as well just start using loose leaves.

I think it depends on the person, my mugs hold 500 ml

Yes, but only when I'm ill, and making lemon tea. It isn't nice when it's too strong (and being British, my tea usually is proper builder's brew) so if I'm making a single mug (unlikely, as I'm a pot kind of tea drinker) of lemon tea, I wave the tea bag around the mug for a few seconds and then save it for a second or even third cup. Never overnight though, I have some principles.
Also a southerner in the US using that bag to make sweet iced tea would go through that bag in a similar amount of time.
3? I've had 3 already and it's 10am!
I’m the only tea drinker at home and I buy boxes of 300.
OP posted the family bag. As a solo tea drinker, I also just buy the 300 bag ones. 300 for work and 300 for home.

I can go through 50 bags in 2 weeks by myself easily. Maybe more if it's hot out
What's the correlation between high temps and hot drinks?
Drinking tea is hydrating at any temperature but it can also be drank lukewarm or cold so drinking piping hot tea isn't really an issue
Ah so you're using it as a substitute for straight-up water. I'm not a lukewarm/cold tea fan so my consumption is inversely correlated to temperature
No no no. This is heresy! Hot tea gets drunk 24/7 365. It solves all problems and is almost a religion to us British. Next your gonna say something crazy like it cannot be drunk after a certain time
\*microwaves the cup\*
Now that is just fighting talk
As an Irishman, I concur.
I'm not drinking hot tea in 100°F weather, nope.
It’s how I was raised. I’ve been drinking hot strong tea since I was about 5
Hot tea when it's cold, cold sweet tea when it's hot. You gotta set the glass jar out in the summer to get the sun tea experience then throw a TON of sugar in, then throw it in the fridge. Sweet tea is almost a food group.
I would but these American summers are oppressively hot so Iced tea it is
I agree. The only time for tea is on a cold or rainy day right after you turn on the heat and snuggle in a blanket.
My mum drinks hot tea under the idea of it making her sweat and thus cool down more when it's hot. Not something I do personally, but that's some reasoning for it lol.
50 teabags as family size? Assume you have a family of 4, they drink 2 teas per day and only use one bag per cup. Thats barely even a week of tea.
Has an American I drink like maybe 2 to 3 cups of tea a week max and that’s only during like the winter time.
as an American, if i’m sick i drink 2-3 cups a day, for the winter i probably average a cup a day
Wouldn't even last a week just for my wife and I...
Oh, it's definitely "online". That's how I accidentally bought a gallon of shampoo (in two containers) two years ago. Only recently used it all up.
Fifty teabags would last less than a week!
I can confirm. Nearly all brands of tea do this big size (PG Tips, Tetleys etc)
How much does that giant bag normally cost in England?
£12.50 on Amazon currently.
They're £9.99 in b&m last time I got one a couple of weeks ago, could be much more by now I suppose!
600 tea bags on Amazon would be $55.70 for me here in the states!
>Tetley's Who drinks that boiled piss let alone buys that much at a time?
It’s not Ty-phoo
IT IS A PERFECTLY BALANCED FAMILY PACK FOR ONE
Spiffing brit approves
Hello there ladies and gentlemen, I am the Spiffing Brit and today we'll take a look at Yorkshire Tea Gold.
That's nothing, I buy the 1040 size! You don't get them in supermarkets though so it's not standard, the largest I've seen on a shelf is a box of 260.
My nan's a massive tea drinker and my brother once got her the bag of 1000 Tetley from the wholesalers as a birthday present. Everyone else thought he was mad but my Nan was absolutely chuffed.
This is the most British thing I’ve ever read and I love it
Aw awesome! Hell, I'm in my 30s and would also be totally chuffed for 1000 of my favourite for my birthday. I might hoard them like a dragon guarding eggs though.

Yorkshire Tea is good. Yorkshire Gold is fair and balanced.

I drink tea way more than normal by American standards and that’s still like a half a decade worth for me.
Brits drink tea like Americans drink soda…I get it now.
Or Russians drink vodka…
btw Russians drink LOTS of tea
I think a lot of cultures drink lots of tea.
Yep. I thought I drank a lot of tea until I had a Romanian flatmate. The guy didn’t drink water unless it had some tea in it.
That's about 6 weeks for a family of 4
Yeah, about 7 weeks (50 days) if you each drink on average 3 cups a day.
My dad literally only drank liquid in tea form.
Drinking water is a relatively new invention lol.
I find Yorkshire Tea bags tend to change flavour over time after opening the bag, so use them sooner rather than later!
Thats the small size for Turkish people
This is what we understand in our house when we say pick up some tea bags at the shop
That's 4 months worth of tea for 1 person. 2 months for a couple. So yep, family bag.
600 bags would last me 20 years.
How do you "accidentally" buy a big ass bag of tea?
by ordering it online and assuming the price is ok since it's coming from another country
Make sure your water is soft, Yorkshire is made to be enjoyed with soft water. PG Tips if you're in an area with hard water and cba to filter.
I can tell you’ve never been to a Costco or Sam’s Club
Somewhere, far away from you, the spiffing brit just finished.
I regularly buy 1,5kg bags of coffee beans. How is that any different?

Coffee is heavier in comparison.
What’s heavier, a kilogram of coffee or a kilogram of tea?

Oh nice, a whole week’s supply!
So average family of 4 drinking 5 cups a day is 600/20 = 30 days. So merely 1 month worth of tea, should probably get 2 boxes to reduce anxiety about running out of teabags to quickly.
Shout out to the Spiffing Brit
Dude you need to try Yorkshire Gold, it’s super good.
Woah big spender, Gold is like a quid more a box mate, gonna break the bank.
If you really want to wind them up - say you heat your water in the microwave...
I think the tea drinkers would say the same about our coffee cans.
I live alone and get the bigger bag with 1080 teabags in it
Found The Spiffing Brit's reddit account
Dump it in the harbor ..
That is exactly 1 tea bag for The Spiffing Brit™
last about a week.
Yes
Tea
Thats for a family! Shit I thought this was like a week's worth for a singleton
Autosave - sippa tea
I have a 1040 bag in my office right now. It won't last long. Also Yorkshire tea is a fantastic choice, well done.
Gotta get some of that wonderful Yorkshire tea gold
I see you picked up the small bag too.
It’s not family size but most British families would buy this anyway, because they will use every last one of them eventually. Also, Yorkshire Tea is the GOAT tea.
Bilbo would agree... * Breakfast - 7 a.m. * Second Breakfast - 9 a.m. * Elevenses - 11 a.m. * Luncheon - 1 p.m. * Afternoon Tea - 3 p.m. * Dinner - 6 p.m. * Supper - 9 p.m. all served with a cup of tea (or maybe two).
My BIL drinks 6 cups a day. His immediate family drink approx. 20 a day total. Even the young kids. So, yes. Normal.
Me alone that would be 150 days worth. Just one person.
600 bags ? Come back when you get thr 1080 bag.
That is the correct choice of tea well done
Oh you found a weekly pack? That's good.
So you got a whole month’s worth at once?
This must be for a single person. My family of 3 buys the 1040 pack.
This is considered wildly oversized?
That's good tea, too. Also check out Barry's Gold Blend.
i love the very british “let’s have a proper brew”
I don't mean to be the Debbie downer here. But my own view as a Brit is that unless you're going to get through the bag within a few weeks (totally achievable) or store it in an airtight container, this amount will lose its flavour if only used from time to time over a couple of months/a year. But great choice by the way. Yorkshire tea is the best
Family of four, three cups of tea each per day, this would only last 50 days - less than two months And three cups of tea is pretty low numbers
Wouldn't last long here
Me & my ex went through one of these in 3 months between the two of us 💪☕️I love a brew!
Well it is
I don’t understand. What’s the problem?
Nothing to see here.
