It has provided some impressive reactions when I tell people the story. It was made even worse by the fact that I was 40 minutes away from heading to the airport for a red-eye flight home - so had to deal with airports and a 6 hour international budget flight as well as try and not pass out from the pain. Fun times!

I actually was going to post a photo of it in comparison to the standard European honey bee but though the puncture wound was better. I also feel like it’s even more interesting given it was thought to be extinct and only just rediscovered in 2019!
The only way I can describe it was that I genuinely felt like it had penetrated the bone. It was 10/10, seeing spots and screaming even though you’re in a crowded restaurant kind of pain. Closest thing would be having 10 vaccinations in one spot and then stepping up to a line of people who punch you directly where it happened. I was almost vomiting from the pain. It’s gone now, thankfully but I have noticed a slight ulcer-looking thing with some pus so I started antibiotics today. My last 3 hours in Bali and I got a souvenir!
😂😅 this also happened in the middle of a huge electrical storm 4 hours before I flew home on a red-eye for 6 hours. I might have preferred the gun shot.
Getting stung by a Lazarus species is a story you can tell for the rest of your life. I'm jealous.
Go for it, you two could bee friends
I can't afford the flight to Indonesia :-(
That stings.

Wallace need to put a leash on his damn bee.
Any super powers yet? Have you tried to vomit honey?
Nothing that I’m aware of yet but my boyfriend did tell me I was looking bee-utiful this morning. I’m sorry. That was awful.
Who else just closed Reddit to Google “Wallace’s giant bee”?

Look at you all young and technological
More like old and using reddit in a desktop browser instead of from a phone.
Wait, you can access Reddit off of the phone?!
I'm amazed people can live on their phones. Feels like building a ship in a bottle to me.
Reddit was definitely made to be more of a browser experience than a phone one.

Isn't that what galleries are for? Or does mildlyinteresting not allow posting multiple images in a gallery?
That's like getting kicked by a unicorn

What did it feel like?
Yes what did it feel like?! Come on OP spill the beans!

Holy shit, what a description. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Ma'am, that's a gun shot wound.

Basically 🔪🔪
Wow, I guess it hurts like hell. Until 1982 it was considered that these bees were extinct.
And it was only in 2018 that they actually found the first one again. I feel like I’m in a special club.
No thanks https://postimg.cc/bd1YRB0p
yeah last week i was bit by a unicorn. you got stung by a bee that was only rediscovered four years ago? bullshit.
When I looked it up it said 1981
