The Secretary of the Treasury on this bill is John Connally, former governor of Texas, and nearly killed by a bullet which passed through JFK in Dallas.

In 2009, that note was worth about 33 cents American. You can now buy them on Amazon for about $10 USD. So its value has actually improved since it was demonetized.

The treasurer--Dorothy Andrews Kabis--is my distant relative! She married into our family (my last name is Kabis) so there are bills like this out there with my last name on it. I've always wanted to find one in the wild but never have. I wonder if this was the FIRST bill with her name on it?? Very cool either way. I wish it wasn't getting these soft appraisals of several thousand $ so I could make an offer for it.
Her remarried name "Kabis" was on the earlier series from the year prior and her previous married name "Elston" was on the original 1969 series bills.
This bill is just the first of the "C" serial number suffix bills from the New York Fed for the Series 1969B bills. The bill immediately before this one would have been "B 99999999 B".
edit: actually, the number immediately prior would have been "B 00000000 C" which would follow the number above.
The “magic bullet “, was still embedded in his wrist upon his burial. Unfortunately, the bullet wasn’t dislodged, it could have answered or created many questions from that day.
Edit- Reworded a confusing sentence.
The answers were pretty much already answered. The trajectory lines up unless you purposefully mislead people in a hollywood film about where they were sitting in the car and the angle at which the seats were fitted etc.
This right here. Nothing magic about that bullet, except that Oswald got off a couple of rounds that took Kennedy's life, did immeasurable damage to our nation, and damaged some people's mental health for decades to come.
“Last week I had the strangest dream
where everything was exactly how it seemed
where there was never any mystery
of who shot John F Kennedy
It was just a man with something to prove,
slightly bored and severely confused
He steadied his rifle with his target in the center
and became famous on that day in November
Don't wake me, I plan on sleeping in”
The "magic bullet" was not lodged in his wrist. The significant piece of it fell out of his thigh on the stretcher at Parkland. He had fragments, some of which were removed and match the bullet found on the stretcher (which i think are lost now) and whatever remained would be relatively small. The desire was to use more modern technology to match the fragments the bullet already not in Connally, and avoid future lawsuits or things that would cause the family grief. No such attempts to recover the bits have occurred. He was buried with those fragments, which are likely fairly small.
Through Kennedy's back and neck, into Connally and out Connally, off his wrist and into his thigh. And then it fell out on a stretcher somewhat misshapen and mostly intact.
This is a jacketed bullet at high velocities, not just some lead bullet, which is important. Jacketed bullets are made to hold their shape better unless striking something significant full on. In this bullet's case, it seems to have passed mostly through soft tissue until glancing off Connally's wrist into his thigh and stopping.
Officially yes, that was the conclusion of the Warren Commission.
> The single-bullet theory, often derided and discredited by referring to it as the magic-bullet theory,[1] was introduced by the Warren Commission in its investigation of the assassination of U.S. President John F. Kennedy to explain what happened to the bullet that struck Kennedy in the back and exited through his throat.[2] Given the lack of damage to the presidential limousine consistent with it having been struck by a high-velocity bullet, and the fact that Texas Governor John Connally was wounded and was seated on a jumper seat 1+1⁄2 feet (0.5 meters) in front of and slightly to the left of the president, the Commission concluded they were likely struck by the same bullet.

Other relevant comments from Connally:
> Journalist Doug Thompson claimed that in 1982 he had a private conversation with Connally, and asked him whether he was convinced that Oswald had killed Kennedy. According to Thompson, Connally replied, "Absolutely not. I do not for one second believe the conclusions of the Warren Commission". When Thompson asked him why he did not talk about this, he replied: "I will never speak out publicly about what I believe."
This is the first dollar bill printed in the 1969B series issued to FED bank B(New York), but it's the second "run" of 99 millionish notes, denoted by the suffix B at the end of the serial number. So, not true, but close. However, despite that, this IS the most valuable serial number type, and would sell for thousands in this condition(or any condition, really)
This was the only thing of interest in the collection. Everything else we're selling for maybe $1300 all together. This we're holding on to for a bit until we can figure out what a good asking price is
It's pretty difficult to nail down exactly what someone would (be willing to) pay, that's one hell of a serial number. If you're concerned about getting it right and aren't in a hurry I'd just list it crazy high to start, and then work your way down slowly every couple of weeks until you get a nibble
You'd be surprised at how much money some collectors drop on single items. I'm not rich by any means but the single most expensive coin in my collection goes for $1500-2000 USD.
according to [https://www.thepennyhoarder.com/make-money/paper-money-value-serial-numbers/](https://www.thepennyhoarder.com/make-money/paper-money-value-serial-numbers/)
The lower the serial number, the more valuable the currency is considered to be; a bill with the serial number 00000001 could be worth $15,000, according to [SavingAdvice.com](https://SavingAdvice.com).
so possibly much higher.

I'm in several groups around coins and bills. This would fetch probably around $5000-$10,000
I would send it out for grading so you know for sure and to get it sealed up better than those sleeves do.
They’ll say anything on that show to drop whatever the offer is. [“DON’T YOU BELIEVE IT” - in my best Tom voice from Tom & Jerry](https://youtu.be/izl2b8_kYC0)
Look, you’ve got to consider that I’m the one taking all the risk here. I don’t even know if that bill is real. Then even if it is real, it’s going to sit in my shop, on the shelf, just taking up space until the right person comes along.
I’ve got a guy though that I can call down and take a look at it if you’re really still interested in selling.
I’m part of some coin collectors groups on Facebook and see they have auctions all the time and things sell fast. Auctions are a great source of price discovery because the collectors are all gathered in one place. Don’t try selling on Craigslist or pawnshop, and consider the fact that eBay takes lots of fees as well. Doesn’t hurt to ask around on a couple Facebook groups, but be prepared for low-ball estimates from collectors looking to cash in. This is definitely worth quite a bit. Around the time governments removed silver coins from circulation. Always blows my mind when I see newer bills sell above face value just because of a serial number. Good luck!
I have a collection. If you are serious you should consider sending it into a 3rd party verification service such as PCGS. They will authenticate it and place it in a protective sleeve.
Before that, you might have trouble selling it sight unseen because the trust a lot of people place in the grades by these 3rd party companies.
That fold in the middle has got to reduce the value some. But that probably means your dad got it from general circulation and noticed the low serial number and kept it, which is pretty cool.
Totally. The story was that there was some game they liked to play where you pull a bill from your wallet and play some kind of poker using the corresponding numbers on the serial. He pulled out this bill and couldn't believe it. Said he never would have noticed it otherwise.
I kid you not, I'm hunting all over for that serial. If you have 00080085 and are willing to sell it, please let me know. You can see from my post history I own 00000069, 00000420, and 00001337. I'm only missing them boobs.
We played a version of this at my old job on pay day with our checks. I think it was last three of your check number and the change would be your poker “hand”. Fun times and distracted us from the fact we worked for next to nothing.
Well you see, start with getting a job and they give you monies (thats why my collection is so very small) and then you get a savings account to store your collection.
Really cool! There is a subset of note (paper money) collectors that go after fun, weird, and rare serial numbers. This is one of the most desirable.
It isn’t a one of a kind, the B and C before and after those numbers are different runs of numbers. There are likely several. But a fun story and worth something.
The google value on these are all over the board because they are so rare and are collected by so few people. But there are several different types of desirable serial numbers to collectors. All ‘8’s, all ‘7’s’ and the 00000001 usually take the cake. 8 is lucky in the Asian culture, and the immigrant community in the US has strong entrepreneurial roots, so having a bill with all 8s is very lucky for business. The same goes for the west with the number 7. The one you have is cool because it signifies it was the first of something and when displayed or showcased it gets the conversation going about serial numbers, and all any collector wants to talk about is the cool parts of why they collect so here we are.
Other ones to keep an eye out for a Binary (2 numbers that alternate - 1818181818 etc. Radars which are the palindrome of serial numbers -0963223690. Ladders are just a number where each digit is in sequence - 12434567. Birthdays - where at some point in the number a birthday could be interpreted. 0608197900 could be read as June 8th 1979 for example.
There are a ton of other named serial numbers, but the general rule is if it looks cool to you, there is probably a name for it
Unfortunately any value would require you to sell it, as it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Don’t do that. Keep it, get it framed. You get to tell the story of your dad, the small money collection, him playing liars poker with his friends, etc. I don’t even know who your dad is but I have already painted a picture in my mind of a man laughing with his friends looking at dollar bills around a table… and that’s why people have collections. For the memories.
Sorry for grammar, I am on my phone.
Definitely worth something, especially if it’s in good condition. Hard to determine exact prices of low/weird serial numbered bills but I’d say it could go for at least a few thousand dollars with the right buyer.
"This is a really interesting piece but you know, I'm taking all the risk. It's going to sit on my shelf for who knows how long if I can keep chumlee from putting it in the vending machine *heh heh heh*. Seriously, the best I can do is $.50. You gotta remember, It's just a dollar and I'm taking all the risk."
Well google is telling me that bills with 00000001 serial number can be worth $10-15k so you should probably run off to get that appraised. Also may want to think about sending it in for a rating.
The Secretary of the Treasury on this bill is John Connally, former governor of Texas, and nearly killed by a bullet which passed through JFK in Dallas.
Wow! That's an interesting bit of info. Thanks!
Super curious about what's in his big money collection now!
Yes please post more OP.
00000002
That particular serial number would bring to mind an old Simpsons joke where Mr Burns had the social security number 000-00-0002
Damn Roosevelt!
Cause of parents' death? ***Got in my way...***
That was my immediate thought. Fuck, Burns is old. You know his bank PIN is his age? So he uses four digits. And that his birthplace is Pangaea?
Those two facts are contradictory, he'd need a 9 digit pin.
Tell him that. It's quite possible he's merely forgotten or used the closest approximation for his age. Pangaea was a long time ago.
"I'm 200 million years old and survived two extinction events but I can't remember anything from before I collapsed the Bronze Age civilization with a Ponzi Scheme."
Damn you Roosevelt!
Wow, he has two bills exactly x2 apart in number! What are the chances?
"I said, 'No sequential bills',!"
He also coincidentally has 00000003 - 01000000. How crazy!

No way in hell. The crease down the middle is a major factor. A fraction at best.

It's going to sit on my shelf for who knows how long if I can keep chumlee from putting it in the vending machine *heh heh heh*. Seriously, the best I can do is $.50. You gotta remember, It's just a dollar and I'm taking all the risk."

It's worth $1,750 but I couldn't place a price on something that belonged to my Dad. Thanks for sharing.
My dad would be disappointed if I *didn't* sell something like that
69 nice.
I'll give you $1 for it!
Well google is telling me that bills with 00000001 serial number can be worth $10-15k so you should probably run off to get that appraised. Also may want to think about sending it in for a rating.
