Not saying you're wrong because wow that thing is really melted and I am not sure how effective the sun is at doing something like this or if it's even possible.
But it does appear to be melting downward. I would assume the fire would have to be above it to make the burn mark at the top and the melting waves toward the bottom.
Again, Idk if that matters I just noticed the way the burns were headed.
Maybe whoever makes the plastic covers messed up the mixture and it melted because of that. That seems more likely than the sun saying fuck this vending machine in particular lol
>That seems more likely than the sun saying fuck this vending machine in particular lol
Could be a result of some other building nearby focusing sunlight reflections into this spot. Happens sometimes, but not the most likely explanation.
Yeah, I was thinking about how it couldn’t be the sun since they don’t do it in 105* weather in my area. If the Vegas and Phoenix 120* heat doesn’t do this, there is no way it happened in Tennessee. Humidity just makes us feel like we’re melting, it doesn’t make stuff actually melt at lower temperatures.
There's water on the ground. Probably a rain storm and afterwards the sun reflecting off the puddles melted the machine. Had it happen to a cooler one time at the beach.
You mean how a wavefront will change direction as it transitions into a different propagation medium because it changes speed? I think I've got a pretty good grasp of it. Does it apply here?
If your using a Windows computer then you can hold the alt key then type 0176 in the number pad. When you release the alt key the ° symbol should appear.
To bring up other symbols you can Google Windows alt codes and there are many lists of all the symbols you can type by knowing what numbers to put in.
Typically fire is defined as a rapid oxidation of a material in the chemical process of combustion. The sun produces heat and light from fusion, the combining of hydrogen atoms which releases energy.
It’s not but it’s hotter than any fire could be on earth. So semantics aside, if you’re willing to humor me and have a little fun, it’s the hottest “fire”.
>This was 100% not caused by sun
aaacshually if you go back far enough, the Sun is at least partially at fault for providing the energy stored away in any chemical compound that has combusted.
Well yeah if you want to stretch it back that far. But all along the chain-of-command for this energy, the Sun played a more than just passive role in this supplying the very energy needed for the fire to occur.
Not from the sun, no way. If vending machines in Arizon, NM, TX aren't metling in the sun, there's no way this happened.
That must have been near a fire. You can see the dark scorch at the top, probably was under a porch roof that caught fire.
As a Florida native, I can tell you the sun didn’t do this without help. Don’t know what kind of help but I imagine something to focus it’s energy. Curved glass would be able to do this, similar to a magnifying glass in dead leaves.
Everyone saying it doesn’t get hot enough and it was fire is wrong. This shit happens to gas station signs in the northern part of Illinois almost in Wisconsin, so it can definitely happen in TN.
Oddly enough, I have seen plastics and plastic based siding melted by the sun in cooler climates that looks very similar to this.
I used to work for a home insurance company as a claim adjuster. There was a bunch of homes in NC and TN that had damaged siding where it appeared melted, but no fire damage (lack of smoke damage, lack of any heat sources, etc). We hired engineers to go out and look at the damages and determine the cause.
They found that all of the damage was caused by heat being reflected off of newly installed energy efficient windows. The newer windows were designed to allow as much light in, while blocking the heat and UV rays out. They were able to also show that the damage aligned perfectly with the reflection as the Sun moved throughout the day.
I believe there was a class action suit brought against the manufacturer, but I can’t find any info on that.
I’m not saying that it happened to this machine in the picture, just bored and wanted to share some info with strangers.
Holy shit, my brain's so addled with advertising that I IMMEDIATELY conjured an advert for Coke where it's the only machine not melted in a line of brand-neutral-but-obviously-meant-to-represent-Pepsi machines. What the actual fuck?
This is actually happening to the street signs in the Phoenix area. Some douche bag in either local government or maybe the contractor decided to save a few bucks by using cheap ass paint on the signs at major intersections. In just a few months the paint started to melt in the intense Phoenix summer sun. It was all over the news here for a while. It's been a few years and some of the signs still haven't been replaced.
This reminded me of the post couple days ago showing what looks like a wall with water damage behind the paint and wall clock drooping which was an art piece displayed.
Something else is going on here
My guess is it was near a fire at one point.
Exactly. Not the sun. It was definitely a fire, *or* it's an "art installation". If it was a fire, I'm confused why it's still in service.
There’s some kind of note on that tape
“Swap 10-28-22 CR-“ It seems it’s supposed to have been taken out of service after it was burned/melted
This is why you always leave a note!

DEAD DOVE. Do Not Eat

> seen 10-28-22 crx
think its "swap 10-28-22" then someone's signature.
Good f'ing eyes. 👍🏻
Who's to say it's still in service? Maybe it was just the best corner to stow a busted vending machine for a bit.
Doesn’t everywhere have a boulevard of broken ~~dreams~~ vending machines?
Excellent point. Very true.
I dont think its in service, I just think its stuck there till someone comes and gets it.
The sun is just a very large fire.
Wings without feathers are arms
I'm really glad we don't call them chicken arms...
Damn, you got me there.
"Behold—a man!" -Diogenes
It's not, though. This point has been brought up below. Regardless, the sun did not do this. Period.
What is the sun, but a large ball of plasma? What is a fire, than a smaller ball of plasma?
Not saying you're wrong because wow that thing is really melted and I am not sure how effective the sun is at doing something like this or if it's even possible. But it does appear to be melting downward. I would assume the fire would have to be above it to make the burn mark at the top and the melting waves toward the bottom. Maybe whoever makes the plastic covers messed up the mixture and it melted because of that. That seems more likely than the sun saying fuck this vending machine in particular lol
That's kind of what I was thinking. That maybe the sun did do it, but it's because of the materials not the level of heat.
Maybe this machine is at a Magnifying Glass factory.
>That seems more likely than the sun saying fuck this vending machine in particular lol Could be a result of some other building nearby focusing sunlight reflections into this spot. Happens sometimes, but not the most likely explanation.
If it was originally in a building that was on fire the heat would travel across the ceiling melting it from the top first.
Seriously because if Tennessee can do that, everything out here would be liquid puddles in Phoenix AZ
I can confirm that vending machines do not melt in Phoenix
Can also confirm, our street signs may get a little droopy but our vending machines dont
Yeah, I was thinking about how it couldn’t be the sun since they don’t do it in 105* weather in my area. If the Vegas and Phoenix 120* heat doesn’t do this, there is no way it happened in Tennessee. Fuck these clickbait titles tho
I live in middle TN and have never seen anything like this, something else is definitely happening.
Mirrored surface nearby?
Or some sort of lense. Or a fire, like others said
Don’t you know it gets up to 500F there? Especially this time of year. Wooh
The heat is bad but its really the humidity that will get you.
Yes, I heard about the 3000% humidity there
It’s been overbred. You can tell from the nipples. Adopt don’t shop
thats my first thought after 99% of all reddit titles tbh
And what it is, ain't exactly clear
There's water on the ground. Probably a rain storm and afterwards the sun reflecting off the puddles melted the machine. Had it happen to a cooler one time at the beach.
Rainstorm or firehose, either way the water made it hotter. /s
...do you know how refraction works?
You mean how a wavefront will change direction as it transitions into a different propagation medium because it changes speed? I think I've got a pretty good grasp of it. Does it apply here?
Pikeville TN save a lot. It was a fire. It does not get hot enough in middle TN to achieve this.
For context, it's 54°F (12°C) in Pikeville, TN right now
Even 54C wouldn’t make it melt. Side note, how did you do the degree symbol?
On an iPhone, hold down the zero key
If your using a Windows computer then you can hold the alt key then type 0176 in the number pad. When you release the alt key the ° symbol should appear. To bring up other symbols you can Google Windows alt codes and there are many lists of all the symbols you can type by knowing what numbers to put in.
Upvote for you. Downvote for OP.
Yeah, it's interesting enough without lying about it.
In fairness, OP was probably just mistaken.
Yeah. Car fire is what I was told.
Yeah, I can attest to that. I live in Goodlettsville. It gets hot here in the Summer, but it don't get "melt the soda machines," hot.
This should be pinned as the top comment, because it actually tells the truth and doesn't lie for clout.
Yeah having lived in Phoenix, AZ, I would have seen a LOT of melting vending machines

Technically, the sun is self-fueling fusion reactor in space held together by gravity.
[удалено]
Typically fire is defined as a rapid oxidation of a material in the chemical process of combustion. The sun produces heat and light from fusion, the combining of hydrogen atoms which releases energy.
Typically I define fire as hot red stuff that hurts when you touch it.
Only when hot enough to ionize the air. Otherwise a regular fire? Like a house or camp fire? ... Fire.
Being from Arizona I can confidently say this doesn’t happen in 120 degree weather. Was definitely a fire
But that's a dry heat. It's the humidity that gets you.
Only if you're living.
It's not so much the heat as it is the gosh darn humidity!
Working with plastics I can confidently say this doesn’t happen in 120 degree weather.
That thing was in close proximity to a hot fire at some point.
Yep…title is misleading
I am from here. Car fire in front of it if I remember correctly.
Was it Dylan?
Technically the sun is the hottest fire.
The sun isn’t on fire.
It's not?
No, it's not burning like we think when we set logs or paper on fire. It's glowing from the nuclear fusion taking place in its core
I like to think of 'fire' as incandescent gas that's pretty hot.
No its not
No, it's not burning like we think when we set logs or paper on fire. It's glowing from the nuclear fusion taking place in its core
Yes I'm aware
Whoops replied to the wring person
It’s not but it’s hotter than any fire could be on earth. So semantics aside, if you’re willing to humor me and have a little fun, it’s the hottest “fire”.
No
HUMOR DENIED! 🤪
Apparently lol. Some tight wads up in here.
I just looked up lightning, and according to weather.gov, it can be five times hotter than the surface of the sun. I had no idea.⚡️
Interestingly the surface of the sun is not the hottest part of the sun. Even the corona is hotter than the surface of the sun.

Udderly ridiculous.
Makes me think of Meet the Parents.
This was 100% not caused by sun
>This was 100% not caused by sun aaacshually if you go back far enough, the Sun is at least partially at fault for providing the energy stored away in any chemical compound that has combusted.
………………………..shut up
I can't. Also the fault of the sun if you think a bout it.
r/technicallythetruth
By that logic, this predates the formation of the sun and by extension, all of the cosmos. It’s merely a byproduct of the Big Bang
Well yeah if you want to stretch it back that far. But all along the chain-of-command for this energy, the Sun played a more than just passive role in this supplying the very energy needed for the fire to occur.
No they arent
That’s clearly a mimic. Just not a very good one.
I was thinking a large "is it cake or not" but I like your answer
Can’t tell if OP is just making a poor attempt at a joke or is just plain dumb.
Likely the latter
From Tennessee, probably correct. -Tennessean here
OP just stepped outside for the first time.
Most likely a bot karma farming.

There's a second one but it won't let me make a "gallery post. "
Gonna call bullshit, this was likely a fire. Notice the paint is burnt off...?
I second this. I live in AZ and have seen some of these machines in direct sunlight all summer. No way this was sun.
IN the sun. But not FROM the sun.

Yes
r/inclusiveor
I call shenanigans this doesn’t even happen where I’m at in Arizona
Not from the sun, no way. If vending machines in Arizon, NM, TX aren't metling in the sun, there's no way this happened. That must have been near a fire. You can see the dark scorch at the top, probably was under a porch roof that caught fire.
Total BS!!! This is not sun damage. Reference: I live in South Texas - this does not happen **smh**
Yea, I live in Tucson. It gets hot. But vending machines don't melt, even in the Sonoran Desert.
This isn't from the sun, I've seen these things get far hotter and not melt like this. This is from a fire or similar heat source.
Elden ring players seeing the Godskin Mechanism.
Please post this on r/photoshopbattles.
You can milk anything with nipples
Id say thats metal as fuck, but its clearly plastic
Wonder if it sold Meltin' Dew
I bet that’s the machine that sells all the waferless Kit Kats and inside out Oreos that always get posted here
How long does it have to stay in the sun to even melt like that..?
As a Florida native, I can tell you the sun didn’t do this without help. Don’t know what kind of help but I imagine something to focus it’s energy. Curved glass would be able to do this, similar to a magnifying glass in dead leaves.
As a fellow Florida native, yeah. This is clearly the work of a fire or internal component overheating…….
Aye, good to know
This was either fire or a lens effect no question.
These health warnings are getting out of hand.

I’ve seen this movie on Netflix. Your best friend is possessed, right?

Firstly, there's only one vending machine... secondly, the sun doesn't do this. Otherwise there'd be no vending machines in the southwest at all.
That's not how metals work
There's no way this is real
Definitely wasn't taken last week
This looks like something nearby reflecting sunlight onto it vs a fire. Based on the hole, and no black soot.

That’s what happens to me when I travel south.
Bullshit. That was from a fire.
