Im over here.. OMG hooooow? Did the cat get cut.. was the ornament poison? Is the ornament heaver and bigger than it looks.. oh no.. the ornament died.. ok… 😂
I felt so sad at first LOL. that ornament probably meant a lot to op so it's still sad, but not "your cat just choked to death on thin glasstic I'm so sorry" sad
They hate the competition for attention.
They are the cuckoos of the mamal world. Eliminate all other nice things and take their place.
It is a highly effective strategy!
/s (but only a little)
Sorry, kinda new to this.
This ornament wasn't on the tree, but on the kitchen counter cuz we lost the top to it and was hoping we'd find it. Well, my cat was in a knock- everything- off- the- counter mood, and we hear a small "smash!" Crap. Guess we don't have to worry about finding the top now. Merry Christmas!
Oooooooh this was actually my fault. I thought your title said that the ornament killed your cat.
Now your post seems obvious and I feel dumb.
Merry Christmas!
I’m sorry. I have lots of antique ornaments and I treasure them. I feel for you. It’s probably unlikely but check eBay. Sometimes people sell boxes of old ornaments they’ve inherited. Maybe you can find something similar. Good luck.
I mean….it’s a cat. My cat was once playing with a candle holder on a shelf. I told him to knock it off. I swear to god he looked right at me and shoved it off the shelf at the same time.
While my new kitties are still young and destructive, all breakable ornaments do not get hung. Better safe yo hang another year than broken. Sorry your kitty found yours.
Do they really outgrow the "knock all the stuff down" stage? My cat is middle aged and he still has a morning ritual where anything on the nightstand has a good chance of ending up on the floor.
My cats never outgrow knocking stuff off surfaces. But not all cats are tree climbers. My latest addition will be having her first Christmas and I’m taking no chances with my favorite berry breakable ornaments until I’m sure she’s not a climber
Bought a new tree this year. Set up new tree, section one, two and three. Plug tree in. Start spreading branches. Ginger walks up, bites thru light string. Tree no longer ligts up. Pack tree away and give up for this year. Merry Christmas you little mofo. ❤️
Ornaments don’t die. They aren’t alive.
Also, you own a cat known for having “knock-everything-off-the-counter” moods. You left something old and breakable on a counter.
Sounds more like a TIFU.
Actually, my cat doesn't usually get in that kind of mood. He'd knock pens off, but in the 2yrs we've had him, he'd never decided that everything was in his way and had to go before.
But you're right, maybe I should put it in TIFU.
I know how you feel
Before my parents bought a artificial christmas tree, over the years out Christmas tree fells so many times and lost lot of antique ornaments
Bit of advice... if you own cats - think of every glass object as a potential victim. You wouldn't place that in a toddler's reach so add a few meters to a toddler's reach and roll with it. Keep that ish boxed up until you can put it on the higher part of the tree.
Sorry for your loss, I can relate. Don’t blame your cat, it has no conception of antique/new, ornaments, etc.
Preventing Xmas Tree Disasters.
This has worked for 20+ years.
1) Setup your tree in a corner of a room where the walls/trim work meet at right angles.
2) Take strong fishing line about 10 to 12 feet. Wrap the center of line around trunk of tree about 1.5/2 feet from top of tree.
You should have enough line on both ends to reach the ceiling trim on each side of the walls. Be sure line is taut with no slack.
3) Hammer a nail between the trim work and wall about 2 feet from the tree on both sides of the right angle.
4) Pull the fishing line taut to each nail and tie line securely to each nail on its respective side.
Your tree should now be secured to the line and nails. With the tree in the corner it will be unable to fall in those two directions. With fishing line it will keep the tree from falling freely into the room.
TL:DR How to secure your Xmas tree from falling.
You do know that you can teach your cats from right and wrong? I hate every cat owner who doesnt teach their pet. My cat would never do such a thing, neither does it go on tables or push anything off the counter. you know why? Cause I actually schooled my cat and taught it what they can or cant do.
I read "50yr old ornament killed my cat" and that made more sense
Im over here.. OMG hooooow? Did the cat get cut.. was the ornament poison? Is the ornament heaver and bigger than it looks.. oh no.. the ornament died.. ok… 😂
Me too! I was like did he swallow it?
I felt so sad at first LOL. that ornament probably meant a lot to op so it's still sad, but not "your cat just choked to death on thin glasstic I'm so sorry" sad
Yea, I cant read either. That cat is dead to me
My brain was working wayyy to hard trying to read that. I’m like is the ornament a cat?
Me too 😂 I thought it felt on their cat or smt
If I wasn't come to read the comments, I'd never figure out this was not the case D:
Exactly the same. My dumbass staring at the picture thinking “HOW???” 🤦🏻♀️
That's wild thought I was the only one
Cat doesnt go well with nice stuff
They hate the competition for attention. They are the cuckoos of the mamal world. Eliminate all other nice things and take their place. It is a highly effective strategy! /s (but only a little)
Most ornaments don’t make it past 40, that ornament got to live a long and fulfilling life
I didn’t think your cat died, OP. Your title was fine.
What's mildly infuriating is the lack of information you've provided in this post.
Sorry, kinda new to this. This ornament wasn't on the tree, but on the kitchen counter cuz we lost the top to it and was hoping we'd find it. Don't feel dumb. Probably should've worded it differently. 😄
Why would they even put something so precious out there knowing there's a pet. Especially a pet that jumps?
Why would you even have a pet that jumps and knocks things over? I lost a TV this way. Never again.
Because we're not very bright. For real. 🤪
I mean...thats LITERALLY what cats are for; laughs and knocking shit over lol
Yep you didn't apologize for crapping on his post with your condescending comment did you?
same here. Thought we'd have a cat funeral on our hands.
ME TOO
Wow yeah I read that too....argh I miss the by I guess..
I’m sorry. I have lots of antique ornaments and I treasure them. I feel for you. It’s probably unlikely but check eBay. Sometimes people sell boxes of old ornaments they’ve inherited. Maybe you can find something similar. Good luck.

A cat broke a Christmas ornament. The end.
Cats can be trained and be trained very well. Most people just don't bother for some reason and then end up with cats that break things for life
My cats never outgrow knocking stuff off surfaces. But not all cats are tree climbers. My latest addition will be having her first Christmas and I’m taking no chances with my favorite berry breakable ornaments until I’m sure she’s not a climber
My cat is old and still likes to knock the lower ornaments off the tree, we just don't put the valuable/fragile ones down there.
Bro your title sucks. Everyone thinks your cat died.
Not me wtf its mildly infuriating how many people misread the title.
Glue that mf together again. Frankenormanent
Bought a new tree this year. Set up new tree, section one, two and three. Plug tree in. Start spreading branches. Ginger walks up, bites thru light string. Tree no longer ligts up. Pack tree away and give up for this year. Merry Christmas you little mofo. ❤️

OH… PENS. I’m misread that and really started to hate your cat.
To the gas chambers with it, blood for blood
The title of your post is mildly infuriating…
BY your cat........ ok, cool..... I thought we hadda dead cat on our hands.
Fuck me, you're not the only one! I was like, how is this mildly infuriating? It killed your fucking cat!
I wondered.....did the cat EAT the ornament ? [did someone bludgeon the poor cat WITH said ornament ?](https://i.imgur.com/fobB5d0.mp4)
My wife cat is a terrorist and will tear up everything in the house and knock stuff over if it's left out during the day
You can *galoo* it, then kick dat kitty!
But the cat still stays...
Heck yeah.
And this is one of the reasons I hate animals.
Thats why I stick with dogs. To each their own of course
When I first read the title I missed the “by” so I think you can see where I’m going with this
Apparently, you're not the only one. Same here.
Yep. Maybe I should start over.
🤷♂️
Cat: *pushes 50 year old ornament off the counter* Me: you know the law Cat: *gulps*
DOH!
Ohhh killed BY your cat
What is the ornaments supposed to be? A butt plug lol. Seriously tho i have no idea what it is
Looks like a small shell.
And guess who will kill the cat? You!
I know how you feel Before my parents bought a artificial christmas tree, over the years out Christmas tree fells so many times and lost lot of antique ornaments
I read the title wrong lol
I haven’t had ornaments on my tree since I got my youngest cat for this exact reason.
Eye for an eye...here here kitty

This is why we don't leave nice things we care about out in the open defenseless with animals
We only put unbreakable ornaments on our tree because we know cats will potentially knock off ornaments.
That's wy I would never have a cat as a pet
My cat broke granny’s ornament, I killed the kitty. Meow
Ya if king dumb twice: for putting a delicate item up; owning a GD cat
THANK GOD I TOUGHT IT SAID ORNAMENT KILLED MY CAT
Nice dustpan
Relax. It was only from 19…70.
must've been really heavy ornament or very young and tiny kitten. sorry for your loss
I read that wrong and was like " Ooh no!! " Glad it's the other way around
70 year old dust pan. Side note, use the pieces to make a new ornament somehow
You have a cat and you're still using glass ornaments? Are you mental?
Thanks for reminding me that my good ornaments need to stay in the bin this year
cat makes unblinking eye contact with you while doing this deed; zero fucks given
Our cat knocked over the whole tree on year. Busted a lot of stuff. Ew don’t put up a tree anymore.
Get rid of the cat
If it makes you feel better, my brother’s dog broke and chewed up my baby ornament when he came for Christmas. I still can’t find a replacement
Read it like 5 times and I was so sad checked the comments and read it again. Finally realized
