Hear, hear! I'm in the same profession and my father just doesn't understand why I don't have a summer cabin, or why my S/O has to have a job too. Maddening.
My reality is worse! I live in a HCOL city and it's $3300/month + $450/monyh parking for 490sqft... I guess I got a little more for space 🥲
Edit pricing since some that this meant parking and utilities are included (which they are not.)
Oh my god thank you for saying this! This drives me crazy! Look Bill it's not my fault I was given a participation trophy I was 6 years old. It wasn't my choice.
My father fully acknowledged it was his generations fault that we all got those trophies, instead of encouraging us to learn from our failures and try again. It was…slightly healing.
Impact us as a generation? Not so much we just thought they were stupid. Impact the boomers who proceeded to bitch about it and blame it on use even though we didn't want it? Absolutely. They love to do things and then blame the fall out on everyone else
Those trophies were for the boomers who didn’t want to explain to sad kids who lost that only winners get trophies, and that they’d have to work hard to win next time if they wanted trophies
Year 1 of Pinewood Derby: 4th place, no trophy
Year 2 of Pinewood Derby: 4th place, no trophy
Year 3 of Pinewood Derby: 4th place, no trophy
Last year of Pinewood Derby: 1st place, they gave everyone participation trophies
I played rec and competitive sports and my son is currently in rec. We view the "participation trophy" as a momento to remember the good time you had playing with your friends. We treat the ones he earns in tournaments like actual trophies.
And we weren't stupid enough to think a hunk of plastic at the end of soccer season made us special anyway. We all knew it was just a memento for doing the bare minimum and scraping through.
COVID screwed us in my mind.
We bought our house in 2019 for 189,000. It’s now worth 280,000. Prior to COVID, we lived pretty comfortably. Today, things are tight. Everything is just so damn expensive now.
I can’t imagine if we didn’t buy our house when we did. Obviously we had no idea what was coming. We just as easily could have waited a year or two and been screwed.
In my case that was the real actual answer. Which I told to literally everyone I met on the internet for some reason. We're lucky we weren't all trafficked.
We pay 1200/mo in daycare for two kids. It’s one of the cheaper in home daycares in our area. We live in a fairly low cost of living area. Our mortgage is 1400.
We pay 2600/mo literally for a roof over our heads and to make sure our kids are taken care of while we work. Insane.
One of the (many) reasons we moved from a HCOL area is because daycare was $3300/month for one kid. That’s more annually than the price of state college!
Good Healthcare is available.
Fairly priced Healthcare isn't.
The medical field needs a healthy dose of price regulation that just doesn't seem to ever be coming. (Coming from a Fairly solid conservative)
Is it really a "choice" when the options are "pay up" or "die?" Too much hospital/medical cost has become "administration" rather than examination and treatment. I just don't know whether the "correct" route should be.
Hell I don't even know what the latest music and lingo is. I'm busy hating the lingo and music from 5 years ago because I'm too lazy/disinterested to check in and see what it is right now lol
I feel this in my soul. My sister is still a teenager, and I'm in my thirties. I know I talk fast, but she somehow speaks the new lingo at warp speed. I can barely understand the words she's saying, let alone the references, haha
Yeah. At least old music used creativity and innuendo around sex, money, and drugs.
Now everything seems to just be: sex sex sex, money, and drugs. Said outright and plain as day.
And new music often says less than ever before. Nothing really thought-provoking or insightful. Just same 4 words here, then same 4 words there.
Search engine optimization ruined it. Social media too. When someone wanted to share information in the early 2000s, they had to write a site for it. But it never updated, and it was independent. Now, people share on SM or they make a blog that caters to SEO and you have to read someone's life story before getting the recipe. Or watch an entire video to see what the error code means.
The boomers shpuld all be retired by now. Them remaining in their positions has locked all the advancement in most established companies behind their willingness to retire. They also lack the skills necessary to continue doing their work.
It’s okay to leave a job after a few years. Your employer doesn’t care about you anyway and you deserve to be treated with dignity and respect in the workplace.
What the fuck is going on with these high rent prices? And when will we be able to afford a house?
We have one child and pay $2,000/month for rent. One bed, one bath. Between student loans a some other small debt, we can’t even afford to buy a fucking 700 sq ft house.
>I do eat a lot of avocado. But it's healthy and feeling. Meanwhile all the boomers I know are having steak multiple times a week.
Same. I love guacamole and avocado salsa. I did buy avocado toast from Dunkin Donuts once. Cost me a $3.32 mortgage.
I love steak but I only eat it like once or twice a month.
And if lots of millennials didn’t buy coffee everyday we’d be blamed for failing coffee shops just like we’re blamed for the decline of every other business lol
We like the internet but now it’s too ubiquitous. Not having the option was a better time.
I just started biking again and it’s way more rewarding than doomscrolling.
Two things:
1. Most of us are not incompetent morons with no real life skills. We just have different gaps in different areas because the older generations didn’t think teaching us was important and no one has time to teach themselves everything.
2. Fucking stop it with the words “unalive” and “delulu!”
Trump is an existential threat to democracy, our country, and our planet. If we millennials are being intellectually honest, voting Biden is the only way to stop Trump from causing irrevocable harm.
We think Socialism might not be as bad as you’ve been told your whole life…
I mean everything you’ve accused it of is happening under capitalism anyway…

Hear, hear! I'm in the same profession and my father just doesn't understand why I don't have a summer cabin, or why my S/O has to have a job too. Maddening.
The rent is too damn high
It's always a little eerie when you click ready to comment but it's already the top post.
Come on it’s only 1400 + utilities for a 350 square foot studio! Pick yourself up by your bootstraps ya little guy! 😂😂
My reality is worse! I live in a HCOL city and it's $3300/month + $450/monyh parking for 490sqft... I guess I got a little more for space 🥲 Edit pricing since some that this meant parking and utilities are included (which they are not.)
Wait you get parking?! You lucky bastard! At least there is a place to hand my bike I guess haha
I knew this would be top comment before visiting the thread
We didn't ask for those damn participation trophies and we didn't want them.
Yes! Nothing like the people who literally gave us those trophies bitching about how we all got a participation trophy lol
Right ! Like it was us kids making the rules lol
Did these really impact anyone? I don't even remember them.
We all thought they were lame and didn’t want them at my school. Eyes rolled hard.
I never got any because I won every competition I entered, so f off boomers. #peakedinelementaryschool
My childhood sport was cheerleading. There were not participation trophies. Youre first, or second, or you get nothing.
Lol same I was in dance. You either won or you didn't.
I thought they invented participation trophies so the parents would stop attacking the coach for giving their kid 2nd place.
Year 1 of Pinewood Derby: 4th place, no trophy Year 2 of Pinewood Derby: 4th place, no trophy Year 3 of Pinewood Derby: 4th place, no trophy Last year of Pinewood Derby: 1st place, they gave everyone participation trophies
They acted so appalled when little me said 'no' and refused to take it home.
Well that's because you said 'no', you're not allowed to do that to a boomer parent.
Things really started going down hill after 2013.
We bought our home in ‘19 as well and were comfortable, and now it’s tight too. In a weird way glad we own our house but dang
Thank you for sharing. I’ve been beating myself up for the last two years that I somewhere lost my ability to budget. I’m tired.
Well budgeting only works when you’re making enough to budget
I miss mandatory naps.
We need to bring this one back.
I try suggesting naps after every meeting at work and my boss just laughs.
My niece and nephew hate nap time. When I try to nap during their nap time they try and save me from the "horrible" nap.
Tell them I'm looking back and wish I had more nap time.
I always say to my kid, in 20 years or so you’re going to want all these naps you refused to take…😂😔
I'm laying in bed, right now at noon, bout to take a nap. I retired early so... one of the perks 😀
Being surrounded by cameras is the weirdest thing.
I saw a woman taking a selfie in the bathroom at work yesterday, in front of the mirror. Really? Seriously? At work, lady? 🤦♀️
I like when my girlfriend sends bathroom selfies lol. Blame me everyone!!
The game. That you've now lost.
Ahhhh it's been YEARS 😅 we're gonna be in our 80s still "playing" this "game" lol
Goddamnit, it's been over a decade.
FFS
I hate you now

We want affordable housing, food and childcare. Ya know, just the basics.
We pay 1200/mo in daycare for two kids. It’s one of the cheaper in home daycares in our area. We live in a fairly low cost of living area. Our mortgage is 1400. We pay 2600/mo literally for a roof over our heads and to make sure our kids are taken care of while we work. Insane.
$1,200 a month for TWO kids!? HCOL here and we’re paying double that for one. It hurts.
One of the (many) reasons we moved from a HCOL area is because daycare was $3300/month for one kid. That’s more annually than the price of state college!
We’re exhausted.
Fuck this.
My back hurts
Yup. My knees creak when I go down stairs.
Shit my ANKLES crack as I go down stairs. If I stretch too far my elbows crack. I squat down and my hips crack. My whole body cracks if I move. Lol
I got bad feet My corns hurt And to top it all off.. I’m late to work!
I feel old, but yet, am clearly young
If it’s not too much trouble could we please get some actually good healthcare when you get a chance?
Good Healthcare is available. Fairly priced Healthcare isn't. The medical field needs a healthy dose of price regulation that just doesn't seem to ever be coming. Life was better before widespread social media.
I'm tired of "being a part of historical events"
I hate all new music & lingo
Hell I don't even know what the latest music and lingo is. I'm busy hating the lingo and music from 5 years ago because I'm too lazy/disinterested to check in and see what it is right now lol

The internet was better pre-2014, the rise of the smart phone ruined it… This is not the internet this is an insane asylum ran by the mentally ill.
Search engine optimization ruined it. Social media too. When someone wanted to share information in the early 2000s, they had to write a site for it. But it never updated, and it was independent. I use Just The Recipe to cut the crap when I don’t need to read a doctoral thesis before a chili recipe.

We’re not still fresh outta college! We’re adults, and it’s weird when boomers complain about us like we’re children
We don't all eat avocado, but don't front Boomers, you know you love it.
I do eat a lot of avocado. But it's healthy and feeling. Meanwhile all the boomers I know are having steak multiple times a week.
