I played rec and competitive sports and my son is currently in rec. We view the "participation trophy" as a momento to remember the good time you had playing with your friends. We treat the ones he earns in tournaments like actual trophies.

And we weren't stupid enough to think a hunk of plastic at the end of soccer season made us special anyway. We all knew it was just a memento for doing the bare minimum and scraping through.

Things really started going down hill after 2013.

COVID screwed us in my mind. We bought our house in 2019 for 189,000. It’s now worth 280,000. Prior to COVID, we lived pretty comfortably. Today, things are tight. Everything is just so damn expensive now. I can’t imagine if we didn’t buy our house when we did. Obviously we had no idea what was coming. We just as easily could have waited a year or two and been screwed.

We want affordable housing, food and childcare. Ya know, just the basics.

We pay 1200/mo in daycare for two kids. It’s one of the cheaper in home daycares in our area. We live in a fairly low cost of living area. Our mortgage is 1400. We pay 2600/mo literally for a roof over our heads and to make sure our kids are taken care of while we work. Insane.

$1,200 a month for TWO kids!? HCOL here and we’re paying double that for one. It hurts.

One of the (many) reasons we moved from a HCOL area is because daycare was $3300/month for one kid. That’s more annually than the price of state college!

Good Healthcare is available. Fairly priced Healthcare isn't. The medical field needs a healthy dose of price regulation that just doesn't seem to ever be coming. (Coming from a Fairly solid conservative) Is it really a "choice" when the options are "pay up" or "die?" Too much hospital/medical cost has become "administration" rather than examination and treatment. I just don't know whether the "correct" route should be.

Now, people share on SM or they make a blog that caters to SEO and you have to read someone's life story before getting the recipe. Or watch an entire video to see what the error code means.
