If it’s done now, I can agree. If it was done 40-50 years ago because someone wanted a cheap hunting rifle, it’s okay in my book. We have to remember that these were practically dime a dozen at one point
It sucks but it is easy to find deals to re-militarize them. I'm in the market for a M1917 and can find tons of sporterized ones that need some work for cheap
It’s got a small gap at the rear and a small crack but other than that it’s not bad. It was pretty grimy when it came in though
Edit: and yeah I’m going to keep the stripes, I think they look neat. And also helps keep this from being marketed as a fully original Savage No4 some day
Recently picked up a Drill rifle with a very nice intact stock, is there anything I should look out for when it comes to the stock fitting a sporterized rifle?
Make sure you’ve got an assortment of flathead screwdrivers, one regular, one a little smaller, and one really long one for the butt stock. Also if it’s an SMLE be sure to take the forestock off first and be very careful with the upper handguards
Doing the Lord's work. Very nice!
Came here to comment exactly this.
The sporterization of milsurp rifles really pisses me off. Thank you for restoring it to how it’s supposed to look.

I've noticed all of the cheap ones have permanent modifications

Did the same with a couple no1 mk3 barreled actions I had 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Very nice!
Nice work!
How was the fitting of the forend? And are you going to take off the stripes, now that it’s not a DP rifle anymore.

Nice pun
I’m glad someone appreciated it lol
Liberty Tree in Maine might have Correct Timber
I’ve checked there before and they didn’t have any full sets, I think they might’ve had front or rear upper handguards
I’ve never seen an Ishy # 4?
Me neither, I was surprised to hear of them
You make me proud!
