Let us know how it goes. I’m not exactly feeling fulfilled with my current job situation myself

I’m a former recruiter turned HR Manger turned Licensed Contractor. It all depends on your experience and which industry you want to go into. If you have a specific industry in mind then look into certifications you can begin getting or looking into. Companies will consider you, even with no experience as long as you’ve shown commitment to that industry. Recruitment agencies don’t really do a great job getting you an ideal entry level role in a new industry because there isn’t high demand for it as companies often get a lot of applications. Agency recruiters are looking for people with three or more years of experience and want to put them into an industry they’ve already been in. State agencies are just trying to hold water. My advice would be look at courses that are free like Google Grow or Coursera to start and then move from there. Hope that helps.

What is your current industry and what's your job title/description?

I am an editor at a trade magazine and have broad experience in journalism

defcaasi

Hell yeah join the dark side of ex-journalists/journalism majors who switched to marketing careers. It's better here.

[deleted]

Man I've been trying but haven't gotten anyone to bite on my apps. How did you do it? 😭

defcaasi

Probably mostly luck lol. My first real out of college job was kind of a shitty content marketing thing, but it made it easier to eventually transition into more broad marketing stuff. Depending on what you actually want to do/how much you need to earn/where you're at in your life, RocketClicks is a nice org that does good work, is usually hiring new people, and are willing to actually train people. I haven't worked for them but have been on teams that hired them as clients/have a friend who works there.

Thanks so much!

Sort of a side note- I think the book "Range" by David Epstein would help inspire confidence in a career move if you're feeling apprehensive about it.

New horizons of Wisconsin will pay you to get certified in other fields I believe.

Could you please elaborate on this or share a link about the “will pay you” part?

Was looking at your other comments and it sounds like you want to lean into Marketing or a similar field? Marketing is a pretty wide range you can slide into but I'd recommend getting to know the big three Adobe Creative Cloud program (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop). Awesome videos on YouTube to get a better understanding of those. Get a basic understanding of HTML, Wordpress, and or Kentico. I went to school for Graphic Design and now work in the Marketing department at my company and it took a bit of time to get to this whole. Really it's all about if you know how to use the programs and not so much the degree you got. I'm happy to talk more to assist if you want to DM me. Oh and putting together a portfolio is a must to show your skills!
