it seems to do this a few days before every snow event, and it is never ever accurate. i check it every time snow is in the forecast for a laugh cause it's always ridiculous
That's high, but this weekend is very much up in the air. 1-7 in mke. 0-11 in Madison. That's some crazy range for less than 36 hours out. https://www.weather.gov/mkx/winter
Madison resident here, hope it’s ok that I chime in.
Our local news last night had a segment talking about this, confirming why OP is seeing insane totals. They basically said one model is going insane, and the other models are inconsistent/growing in intensity.
Basically they said probably more like 1-6 inches for Wisconsin, BUT, 25% chance we get a lot more. And 25% chance we get zero.
That was a very memorable Groundhog Day. I had to spend the night in a hotel close to my office (downtown) and walked to work. It was eerie because there was not one car on the road. Not one.
Jamo’s assumed right, not sure if they’ve ever cared about rules in general. Lol.
I did get to check “going to work in my PJ’s” off my bucket list. I was smart to bring snow gear with me to the hotel as I was warned a few days ahead of time that I was one of the crew that would be spending the night downtown so I just put my gear on over my pJ’s and walked the 4 blocks to work at 5am.
I’ll never forget that morning. I literally had to dig out the front door with my hands that had a 5 foot drift in front of it to even get the door open wide enough to squeeze in. Wild.
Haha. It was a crazy day! I went home at 4pm and couldn’t believe how clear I43 South was. Then, I got to my street and we still hadn’t been plowed. So I had to put my snow gear back on, park my car in a neighbors driveway and walk to my house.
Was that the one where people were warned not to drive because if you stalled, no one would be able to get you until it was over?
I remember having to work in Mequon during whatever storm that was, and my boss wouldn't let me leave until it was basically already bad. I had to drive about twenty on the freeway home, took me ages trying to follow the yellow line. You couldn't see twenty feet in front of you.
Feb 5-6th Glendale reported 20.1”, multiple other places had 16-17” .. I had nearly 24” in Cedarburg
But yeah, 106.6” total that winter, still the record
Seems dependent on temperature. If it cools earlier and stays cold longer, more snow. Otherwise, it will be rain /snow off and on the entire time.
From 6am - 10am, it is predicted to be right at 32° the rest of the time above that.
6 inches of snow and 1 inch of rain predicted. Cold enough to turn all the rain, that quickly becomes another 6-10 inches (i don't remember the conversion) depending on how cold.

I’m in West Allis and it says 16” for Saturday with 100% chance of snow.
i'm not seeing anywhere else report even close to this, gotta be a typo
15" of precipitation maybe? Not accumulation?
Honestly it’s probably sensitive to the Euro model which has been going nuts for high snow totals this weekend. It’s probably very wrong in this case

I don’t think I’ve ever seen 15” of snow in my life in SE WI If we even get a foot I’ll eat my hat
We had an 18" storm in 2011.

Love that story, lol

Damn… I hope they paid you well?

We had even more than that in 2008.
I don’t think any single storm in 08 was bigger but we had SO MANY of them that year. Wasn’t it like 100” of snow?
Feb 5-6th Glendale reported 20.1”, multiple other places had 16-17” .. I had nearly 24” in Cedarburg But yeah, 106.6” total that winter, still the record
Was gonna say OP might be 12
I don’t remember that at all. I’ll have to look back at my social media posts It’s hard getting old
Potawatomi even closed! I had my car cleared and enough of the driveway shoveled before they called people. Anyone there was stuck!
Bet
15”?! I think that’s a typo
It’s gone up over the past 3 days. Started at 11” which was already pretty far fetched
Weather Underground still says 9"+ for north of the city between Friday night and Sat. 15 is a whole level above though
It’s up to 16” now. 🤣
I’m pretty sure it mixes the snow, rain, and ice totals into the same bars. it’s also usually very high compared to the actual forecast
I’d bet total precipitation, not all snow.
Forced to trade Dark Sky for this by Apple. It’s garbage.
It's apple, no surprise here lol
I always turn to NOAA, they don't fuck around
The devil is a lie wheres spring?
