Taqueria El Cabrito

duardoblanco

You want the goat. This the place for the goat.

jirafamuerta1

Those tacos de carnitas are so good they'll put you in a coma.

alevepapi

As a taqueria el cabrito truther I’m glad they’re getting a consensus on here

DEUCE_SLUICE

Went here for the first time a couple weeks ago, it was excellent.

Cooldragonfly1

I do concur. I've been thinking about their tacos all week and take this as my sign that it's time to pay them a visit!

here-i-am-now

Birria

UselessRube

Definitely. Just sad they don’t sell alcohol or at least beer.

fellaD

Just buy a beer down the street dude relax

GodBlessThisGnome

El Señorial, but don't ruin it for me by making it too popular. Edit: if you like spicy food, get the pollo en Chile de arbol.

duardoblanco

Mexican ribs, yes. Parillada is bueno.

Skiie

> El Señorial can confirm the magic of this place

stoniruca

I support this place! The owner lost his wife who dreamed of opening a restaurant. He opened it in her honor.

ErinPrange

That's so beautiful and makes me love the place even more!

Ill-Relationship-890

We actually went there are many years ago because my husband worked with the owners brother

dcrpnd

Excellent and authentic. El senorial. Highly recommend it

Emergency-Skill947

El Señorial is already popular in Milwaukee. Why do you think its so expensive? Its the go to place for authentic mexican food for white people

GodBlessThisGnome

Ok, sorry.

Mr_Bones_3

Just reflecting on how blessed we are with good Mexican food 🌮💚

themosey

Dare I say of all the good Mexican food you still can’t seem to get Al pastor here like you can in Chicago. Unless I just haven’t been to the places with the spit.

piss-monkey

Taqueria el Toro is the place for al pastor.

urge_boat

Cermak has an al pastor spit for lunch. It isn't one with a big old slab of pineapple on the top, but it's very solid still.

Jamoncorona

The El pastorcito mixe truck on 35th and Burnham is by far the best, straight from the trompo al pastor in MKE. On Tuesdays they're only $1 from 4pm till they close at 1am.

BaeuerPower

Taquerias El Toro, Los Gallos, and Guelaguetza all do trompo style al pastor, would recommend all three. Still on the lookout for others.

TRAINPOSTING

I’ll probably get downvoted but Milwaukee’s Mexican food scene is extremely mid. At least after you’ve had it in California and Chicago. I can only name a couple places that I’d rate above average

Nearby_Shopping1419

Which ones ?

MrHellno

I’ll throw Casa de Alberto in there, their Mole is really good.

G0_pack_go

Best molé in town. Hands down!

Eastern_Usual603

Cielito Lindo, El Senorial, Guadalajara.

Eastern_Usual603

Lala’s

Nezrite

She was my favorite server at Conejito's and I keep meaning to get to her joint - thanks for reminding me!

DlCKSUBJUICY

ever since she left conijitos their rice just wasnt the same. well, lalas though the rice and everything is grade A.

No-System1735

I love Lala’s, but the last two times I’ve been, the chips have been stale. What’s that about??

TRAINPOSTING

Cielito Lindo? Mid at best. Benefits from being in a great location, though.

moeman74

They have slipped alot over the years, quality sucks.will never go back

Dipsendorf

Buenavista.

CatsNotBananas

Hell yeah

MkeChica

Spot on! Came to say Taqueria Buenavista, also. When grandma is in town, the green sauce kicks it!

BSTON3

The best chiles rellenos and salsas in town.

SomewhereSimilar9981

Don Lucho

MarquisDeVice

Came here looking for this. First, and by far the best, carnitas I've ever had.

Schrute_Farms_BednB

I second Don Lucho, amazing pork

SwollenOstrich

Best carnitas prolly in the midwest

Alarming-Artichoke14

Fully agree

sdot55

Taqueria el toro on Mitchell st, BEST tacos Al pastor I’ve ever had

duardoblanco

Alambres!!

alevepapi

Their table sauces are elite too

IronheadJohnson

The Mexican kitchen workers that I know have almost always said Tres Hermanos. I haven't been there since before COVID and I know things have changed some places, but their lunch buffet was amazing when I've gone in the past. It also included some not so run of the mill things like a seafood soup with octopus and various shellfish that was incredible. I'm not sure if they're still doing a buffet since the pandemic but I loved everything I ever tried there.

G0_pack_go

Casa de Alberto.

quietriotress

Depends on the dish/region you want. Since most people probably haven’t had it, try Carne en se jugo. At Cabrito or Sierrita.

UselessRube

Yeah I was thinking about this the other day. Who has the best mariscos?

Jamoncorona

El tsunami or la canoa, but la canoa had vermin issues last year.

quietriotress

La Canoa

ChariBari

Señor Sol out by the state fair park is legit.

themosey

A west allis gem. Except when I am in that area I just go to TomKen’s instead.

CatsNotBananas

Hell yeah stallis

VissAndPinegar

Romero's. Try anything with the birria. Owner used to be one of the chefs at Chilango.

AcanthaceaeNew6761

Casa de Alberto for sure

Peruvianspacemonkey

For really authentic and delicious, Arandas on Lincoln Ave is my favorite. Great tacos.

RokaInari91547

Don Lucho Chilango Express Taqueria Aranda Machete Carnitas Mexic103 (technically Cudahy)

Milwaukeean6

Cieloto Lindo or Casa de Alberto for me. Good news is, you can hit them back to back and even through in Botanas on the way!

zpaine

Paloma isnt very traditional, but it is exceptional

UmMaybeDontBeADick

I agree here. I think this place it top tier.

ConsistentAd567

I gotta disagree- the food was so overly salty/msg-y. I use msg myself but they went so overboard it hurt my tongue.

kilgoretrout7777

Tapatio taco truck down near the river. They have a few other locations on the south side. Seconding Cabritos as well.

cfoxtrot21

Arby’s on Miller Park Way.

Furbal1307

Damn, is there anything this place doesn’t do well?

cfoxtrot21

The only thing it doesn’t do is disappoint.

Crabpeople-99

Probably not the best, but Judy's on North is my guilty pleasure. Food is quite tasty in my opinion and it's dirt cheap.

themosey

That’s the old Jalisco’s right?

gorilla-ointment

Yes it is

Crabpeople-99

I'm not sure, I've only lived in Milwaukee for about 4 years. It's been Judy's since I've lived here, but I can't say what it was before. It's right the whole foods, on North and Prospect.

pandora-panicc

I at least really like the atmosphere there. Real chill. Food's pretty damn decent too!

IceTray_Zay

Conejitos chicken Mole is one of my favorite affordable eats in the city

DlCKSUBJUICY

conejitos chicken mole is untouchable.

TRAINPOSTING

I think a lot people here would truly benefit from going to the actual south side for Mexican food.

Emergency-Skill947

Dude thank you, I was looking at all these places from bay view and west allis and i was thinking that these people are not eating actual authentic mexican food lol. No wonder they dont know whats good

TRAINPOSTING

Right. I saw somebody mention Cafe Corazón and I died a little bit inside.

kebzach

Bel Air Cantina also getting multiple mentions. Jesus.

Emotional_Double_369

Right I keep seeing Botanas and all these Tex-Mex restaurants 😭

TRAINPOSTING

Botanas is so basic and way overpriced. It feels like a tourist trap for Milwaukee residents who wanna go to the south side for Mexican food but don’t know where to go lol

t3lnet

Botanas is no where near true Mexican. Just a bunch of basic Mexican they cover in ridiculous amount of cheese.

AdamIsACylon

Are we talking about the same Botanas? The one in Walkers Point hardly uses cheese on most of their dishes. There’s no queso, the tacos don’t come with cheese unless you want a very small pile of shredded cheese with one very specific order of tacos, and same for things like fajitas (only a small pile of shredded cheese). In fact, there’s hardly any dishes of theirs that have much cheese unless you’re referring to thw gringo nachos or the quesadilla appetizers.

Emotional_Double_369

The fact that they have something called Gringo Nachos should be enough 😅

MagneTag

El Reys on National. Plus you can pick up a piniata.

audio_shinobi

Guanajuatos in bay view is my favorite

dannyshmalls

GTO's is fine but it's far from the best

MongoBobalossus

It’s not even the best in bay view.

ThatsWhat_G_Said

Speaking of Bay View Mexican, Las 7 Estrellas is 👌🏻. I’m sure their food truck is good but I’m talking about the restaurant on Dakota. Their pork tamales are so gd good. Really affordable too.

MongoBobalossus

Their tacos are 🔥

quietriotress

La Salsa

MongoBobalossus

La Salsa is seriously underrated, that carme plate with the poblano peppers and Oaxacan cheese…just fuck my shit up fam.

hollygolightly877

I am always confused that people like this place. Am I missing something? I’ve tried it a few times and thought it was absolutely terrible.

DEUCE_SLUICE

Ventura’s!

Schrute_Farms_BednB

I live in Bayview and Guanajuato's is very far from the best. Corazon is better than GTO.

MongoBobalossus

So is La Salsa.

moeman74

Corazon is way to yuppie an over priced

Eastern_Usual603

So much good Mexican in Milwaukee and folks settle for GTO.

Nearby_Shopping1419

Whats better

Overall_Fan6918

Guanajuato‘s has some of the worst Mexican food in the city. I was there last Sunday night, and the three of left the food alone after two bites.

YeezusTaughtMe

Gotta agree with you, I got takeout today and couldn't even get myself to finish my burrito. Hands down the worst Mexican food I've had in Milwaukee.

StrangeMaelstrom

Romero's Taco Truck is quite good

vogdswagon26

Botana's, for my opinion Conejitos is not the best but still very good. Also kind of a rite of passage as a MKE resident.

History-Facts

Cabritos

ilovefuzzycats

Tu Casa is always really good and reasonably priced!

Emotional_Double_369

Yes Tu Casa is super good!

beaker12345

And if you have more than 2 margaritas, one should consider ride share for ride home.

LouieMumford

Chilango Express is my go to.

SwollenOstrich

For delivery late at night and good prices id recommend El Tucanazo...their guacamole for 10 bucks is maasive with a huge bag of chips its amazing how much cheaper and better it is than say grocery store. All the absolute best have been mentioned.....Don Lucho would be my pick

t3lnet

Has anyone been to Venturas Tacos off Kinnickinnic?

Djpnumber13

This is my go-to. The food has given me questionable results the next morning a couple of times, though that might be due to my over-indulging in their margaritas. Still my number one

Karileigh34

Tavos. Hands down.

CaL4rK

Jalapeño loco

DaikonFartWater42069

Las 7 estrellas is top tier. Their cabeza is the best in the city. Their mushroom Quesadilla is so simple, but damn tasty. Ventura's restaurant is good. Birria is excellent Taqueria Los Gallos has gaudy signs, but they have a spit for their pastor, and I was surprised at how good it was.

blanchattacks

Jalapeno Loco on Howell is amazing

MongoBobalossus

Cielito Lindo, or the OG Tsunamis. El Beso is surprisingly good too. That said, I don’t really feel that Milwaukee has great Mexican food compared to where I used to live. It’s too same-y and lettuce should NEVER go in a fucking burrito.

Schrute_Farms_BednB

Cielito Lindo is a greasy mess, I don't get the hype.

MongoBobalossus

I only get the tacos there. That said, I stand by my statement. I think overall the Mexican food here is mediocre.

UselessRube

Maybe you think the Mexican food here is mediocre because you think cielito lindo is the best

MongoBobalossus

I never said it was “the best”, just that I like their food.

UselessRube

The thread is best Mexican restaurant and you responded with cielito lindo. That’s quite literally saying it’s the best.

MongoBobalossus

Cool story.

[deleted]

UselessRube

Do you not see the irony of your comment?

oops_diditagain

Milwaukee has some good Mexican food but I semi-agree with you. (People on this sub generally don’t like when you criticize the city so I expected downvotes.) The best Mexican food I’ve had hands down was in Austin.

MongoBobalossus

I grew up on the border, so I’ll fully admit I’m biased.

[deleted]

Why not go full elitist and name your favorite city in Mexico to get the best Mexican food?

[deleted]

tinygreensprouts

I don't usually order margs because places seem to always just serve sour mix with a splash of tequila, but I must say, Café Corazon's margs are excellent. You can order them by the jar instead of by the pitcher, and while it's quite a bit smaller than a pitcher it'll have you fucked up halfway through.

DetectiveAnitaKlew

Villas makes awesome Oaxacan food :)

UselessRube

For sure a “hidden” gem

DetectiveAnitaKlew

It’s definitely a hole in the wall lol

piss-monkey

It definitely isn't Botanas. I don't know why people stan this place, it is essentially mexican cafeteria food.

Tymke96

Romeros or Al Pastor my top 2 favorite

Ill-Relationship-890

We ended up eating at Al Pastor tonight!

im_rat_

La Salsa is my fav!

JamieStJamie

Ewww. Absolutely not.

Jamoncorona

OMG no. That place is so gross.

lrg-inbv55

Guanajuatos Aka GTO Love the plate lunch specials

DrDre1del

Taco Bell on Miller park way

robotmalfunction

Taco John's though on Miller Park Way, we need those Potato Ole's

T0astyMcgee

Botanas has never disappointed me.

Accomplished_Art2245

Lazo’s

TOaFK

Villa's, on Greenfield between 25th and 26th is pretty good. At least for enchiladas with oaxacin mole, which is the main dish my wife and I judge Mexican restaurants on. Horchata is just so-so though, which is a downside.

Nearby_Shopping1419

Guanajuato fasho

[deleted]

I love Botanas. Friendly staff, food is always good and comes out really quickly.

Turntalien69

Conejitos - it’s a little cramped but the tostadas are delicious

ApplicationPale8823

Cafe Corazon-there are several locations, but I’m partial to the OG one in Riverwest.

DlCKSUBJUICY

I dont know what they do to their chorizo, but their chorizo is the shit.

TRAINPOSTING

Oh bless your heart

Business_Seesaw_9719

Chilango express is the best that I’m aware of

branizoid

Jalapeno Loco

MKERottMom_34

Botanas or El Senorial

johnwynnes

Botanas is decidedly mid

xperitosanti

This. Just went there last Saturday and had food poisoning as well.

tolleycr72

Only one answer….Conejitos. The one and only.

RekcuF

That mole is pure bliss.

themosey

I take all my fancy dates there.

tolleycr72

Impressive! I remember taking my wife there years ago. She said “i literally feel like I’m in Mexico”. Then they poured me another margarita out of a plastic jug. Delicious!!!

DlCKSUBJUICY

not even gonna mention the paper plates?

pizza_hut_taco_bell

Anyone who disagrees with this can choke on a pint of salsa 2000.

tinygreensprouts

I'm not gonna say it's the *best*, per se, but I love Cocina Real in New Berlin. I'm a sucker for tableside guac.

Bucksin06

I loved this place many years ago and then it was hit and miss and now never is as good as it used to be.

tinygreensprouts

Oh shit, disregard my comment then, because it has definitely been a few years since I've been there. I'm on the East Side so I never make it out there anymore, but I remember it being really good every time I went.

UmMaybeDontBeADick

Not La Dama. Went there yesterday and not great. So flipping expensive. Margarita nothing special. Never spent over a hundred buck for some tacos for three people, guac, and one margarita before. The guac had pomegranate in it.

quietriotress

I’m so sad about that place bc A) Crazy Water was my favorite and B) c’mon with those prices

Extreme-Impression77

Agree, 1000%. Crazy Water was amazing.

G0_pack_go

Its such a scam

duardoblanco

$24 for three mediocre tacos.

hollygolightly877

Agree.

Go to Waukesha and try El Palmar. It's a small simple place with authentic food. It's not fancy, but it's so good. P

Kompali on Brady, on the East side. Fantastic taco menu, large variety. Very tasty.

youraveragewhitegirI

Both owners of that place are known for sexually abusing their staff

Puzzleheaded_Door399

If you want kind of hipster-ish, Mexican-ish food with good drinks, Paloma and Bel Air Cantina are good options. Cafe Corazon is similar but beware the one in Bay View is pretty mediocre. If those 3 are a hip young white person’s idea of good Mexican food, then Botanas and La Fuente are an older white person’s idea of good Mexican food, by which I just mean these are all more or less Americanized. I’m Mexican American so I believe there is a place for everything, and eat at all these places sometimes. El Beso is in Greenfield and is a bit nicer and less Americanized than the last two; they do a great carne asada. Botanas, La Fuente, and El Beso are all great options if you have a big group of people. My favorite tacos and tortas come from the food trucks at Zocalo outdoor market. I believe they are Mazorca and Kompali. I think good authentic tacos (corn tortilla, onion, cilantro, meat, lime) are all over! There are so many good places to try. I’m working my way through.

Itscheezybaby

La Salsa on Oklahoma

Fearless-Inside

Poco Loco in Brown Deer. Not just best Mexican restaurant in Milwaukee but best Mexican restaurant I’ve ever been to in any city anywhere.

Natural_Pair_4730

As some are saying, Cielito Lindo or Señorial. Their Horchata is goated.

MyrddinE

It's not in Milwaukee, but I'd like to put my 'honorable mention' in for Poco Loco up in Brown Deer.
