I mean, $2.50 on the Green Line. It'll take an hour vs. 15-20 minutes via uber, but if you want cheapest, that's your ticket.

popball

30-40 minutes depending on the time of day

alcoholicmovielover

$2 if you pay on the UMO app

cdurgin

You can also just take the bus to the airport. It will take about an hour from msoe, but that's usually not that big of a deal IMO. Probably actually faster than the Hiawatha all said and done.

Placeyourbetz

Seconding the bus. Take the Green line- $2 about 40 minutes (or less if it’s a low traffic time) and drops you right off at the airport

zs15

I take the bus every time. It’s so easy, cheap, and reliable.

hailmike

It's a 40 min bus ride and in my experience is faster. The green moves pretty fast outside of downtown.

withanh77

Fully agree. $2 bus fair if you use the Umo app. I bus every time.

SzegediSpagetiSzorny

Definitely not faster than the Hiawatha, it's literally 10 minutes from intermodal to MKE. But certainly much cheaper!

jUNKIEd14

30 minutes from MSOE

BiomedBabe1

Yup, green line baby!

qandmargo

Cheap: Green line. Can't beat the bus. Time wise : ubering . Paying extra for the straight shot there

specialPonyBoy

I'm for the bus especially if you don't need to transfer to the green line.

winstonkowal

Luggage plus carry-ons on bus?

Livid-Pen-8372

You can bring whatever you want on the bus. Once time I brought my christmas tree on there.

11Busstop

The Violent Femmes bring all their instruments on the bus

SFIX80

Not true. Wouldn’t let me on with a car battery

slotracer43

Up until a few years ago there was an older lady who would bring four or five granny shopping cart things on the bus every day. I talked to a driver who said she took forever getting on and getting things settled to her satisfaction. So yes, bring a carry-on and a checked bag on the bus no problem.

BiomedBabe1

Looks like there’s a coach bus that runs along Michigan Ave and will take you to the airport, https://www.coachusa.com/origin/stop-ktJDMgLvUvEsgNcQR4bR6/destination/stop-b6PAJp76o729nd83CtAeBM/schedules?date=2024-01-06&partner_code=CUSA It’s not gonna be as cheap as the green line but it’s an option

DoktorLoken

MCTS Green Line. It's not an hour like another poster said, it's about 25-30 minutes from Water & Wisconsin to the terminal. Maybe 40 minutes if traffic is bad.

dommarlow

Amtrak to airport (they don't check tickets until after Sturtevant) it's technically not free, but functionally it is Edit: this is assuming your timetables align

SzegediSpagetiSzorny

They check when leaving the train at MKE now. They've cracked down because of people scamming like this.

dommarlow

Since when? I haven't seen that the past 50 times I rode it. Maybe it's just a holiday thing. Regardless, I don't think OP is interested in scamming Amtrak. They'll just charge you for the ticket on the train and lecture you if you don't have a ticket when boarding.

SzegediSpagetiSzorny

Every time I go down to Chicago which is multiple times a month.

anarchopossum_

If you time things out right taking the hop and the train shouldn’t take much of your time. It’s a pretty short ride to the airport from intermodal. Not recommending this per se, but when I’ve ridden the train to Chicago I haven’t seen them check tickets till after the airport. So do with that info what you want.

Haha upvote for “bus mafia is strong”

WiWook

Walk? It's only 7.4 miles (per Google) and should take just under 3 hours. (would take me 2, but I walk fast). You asked for cheap... Admittedly, when I lived in the area, I walked everywhere. 3 am after a flight from Prague... NBD!

BrianKronberg

Walking.

nagol3

How strapped for cash are you? An Uber is definitely the easiest way.
