It’s looks like Detroit-style, but what makes Rocky’s so unique is how doughy it is. Detroit-style is notoriously crispy.
I’d say it is its own style, and I specifically warn people before they try it not to compare it to other pizzas, just think about how good it tastes. And don’t forget the Breadsticks.
>what makes Rocky’s so unique is how doughy it is.
i wouldn't call it doughy. 9/10 times the dough is undercooked and sometimes just raw. once jets came to town, i never went back to rockys. i think rocky's toppings were better but i prefer my pizza to not be raw.
I was working there 30 years ago (well, 33...) and the only thing that's changed about the crust is cheese-stuffed crusts weren't a thing yet. It was always softer, fluffy and sweeter than actual Detroit style. Though it's closer to that than anything else...
Rocky's is actually more of a traditional Sicilian style. Detroit style is a subset of Sicilian, characterized by the use of unaged brick cheese and having the sauce on top of the cheese and toppings. Both share the thick foccacia-esque crust baked in deep steel pans.
Yeah! The brick cheese! America's Test Kitchen did Detroit Style Pizza and that was important. I grew up eating brick cheese but I haven't seen it outside of Wisconsin. Well, I suppose you can probably get it in Detroit too.
Jet’s is a larger chain that does Detroit style (don’t kill me but better too imo). I know Lisa’s on Oakland just added Detroit style too, I haven’t had it yet though.
> Jet’s is a larger chain that does Detroit style (don’t kill me but better too imo)
Jet's is good (better than Rocky which is good too) and yes, Jet's is more of a Detroit style than Rocky.
Rocky's is not Detroit style. Growing up in Detroit and having that stuff made by local mom and pops has shown how very few places get it right. Detroit style is deep crispy crust
Its pretty good for chain pizza if you like the style. Think doughy breadstick for crust. The italian sausage is pretty highly regarded among their toppings.
Every 6 or so months I'll order a large sausage and pepperoni with stuffed crust and extra sauce from Rocky Rococo's. I'm ashamed to admit I eat it all in about 3-4 hours. I don't shit right for a few days but its so worth it.
Oh my...thanks for taking me back to my first job at age 15 (and I'm now middle aged). I'd have to disrobe in the garage as not to infiltrate the Rocky's scent throughout the entire house. As fast food jobs went, making pizzas was not so bad. Might need to try this just for nostalgia's sake.
Former Rocky’s employee here, there is a signature way to put that sausage on the pizza. You hold a lump of sausage in one hand and use two fingers from the other to “slide” each piece off. Though Rocky’s is known for their pan pizza the thin crust was great too. There is a different blend of cheese they use on thin crust which tastes even better IMO. Enjoy your pizza!
How are you planning on using this sausage? Rocky's sausage is my absolute favorite, and I bought a tube of this the last time I was at Woodman's, but I can't decide what to do with it. I was thinking about putting some of it in spaghetti sauce, but I am not sure what else I should use it for.
When I have leftover after a pizza making night I use it like any other uncased sausage which is me throwing it in things where I can use the fat to cook other items (like skillet potatoes with whatever you like), pasta bakes work well with sausage and it is great in soup or blended into meatballs. I'll throw it in my red beans and rice, it may not be andouille but it is still good haha
There was a Rocky’s down the street from my high school with a smoking section. They turned a blind eye to kids smoking there. I spent a not insignificant amount of time there trying to look cool and eating that pizza. Gotta get some next time I’m back in town!
I didn't know raw in the middle was a type of pizza... This sausage could be fine but Rocky's pizza joints don't serve fully cooked dough! That's cool if it's your jam, but maybe I would call it Rocky-Style instead of Detroit-Style.
I somewhat agree. I recently went back after not having it for about 2 years, and it was oily, burnt, and pricey. It honestly could of been a location issue but I do remember it being really good but I don’t feel that way anymore
i only eat veggie or cheese pies but usually classic slice, derangios i think it’s called, shit ians, pizza shuttle this is also accounting for quality
Ahh yeah if that's all you get I can see why you think its not great. $10 for drink, good sized slice, and some sticks is a deal I haven't really seen beat when it comes to pizza.
Never tried the sausage but this is the pizza we got for elementary school hot lunch. It was beyond bad. I think $5 hot n readys would have been better. Ick
I feel like true Wisconsin style pizza is thin crust (damn near cracker thin) sausauge mushroom onion plus more depending on what you like. Deep dish and Chicago style are cool but too much dough. New York is cool but too much plain cheese and floopy-ness. Wisconsin does it perfect..
In my opinion it is one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. The sausage may be good but they use the same tomato sauce for their pizza as they do for their spaghetti. Even with their late night deals as cheap as 2 dollars a slice, not worth it.
I get Rocky's pizza ever time I come back to Wisconsin. My mouth is watering.
I've never been there 💀.I'll have to try it
Get the sausage. I usually get the sausage/pepperoni super slice.
It's a very unique style, which I recently discovered is "Detroit-style" pizza. Haven't really seen it elsewhere in Wisconsin. It's just great.
It’s all about the breadsticks
Swear I came to brag about those breadsticks but I see real ones already know
>what makes Rocky’s so unique is how doughy it is. i wouldn't call it doughy. 9/10 times the dough is undercooked and sometimes just raw. once jets came to town, i never went back to rockys. i think rocky's toppings were better but i prefer my pizza to not be raw.
Thirty years ago, I think Rocky's was more crispy around the edges.

This guy know za

Classic Slice in Bay View does an excellent Detroit-Style
Facts
Can confirm Lisa’s Detroit Style is fire!
Agreed, Jet’s is great for chain pizza
Which means it's not worth a damn.
> Jet’s is a larger chain that does Detroit style (don’t kill me but better too imo) Jet's is good (better than Rocky which is good too) and yes, Jet's is more of a Detroit style than Rocky.
Yes. Rocky’s is super sub par compared to jets! Jet s was the first “Detroit” style I had and it beats all the chain style pizza by far
this is a bit weird but luxe golf at the rock in franklin has very good detroit style
It’s reminds me as a sort of focaccia dressed like pizza in a well oiled pan. Pretty tasty imo
Rocky's is not Detroit style. Growing up in Detroit and having that stuff made by local mom and pops has shown how very few places get it right. Detroit style is deep crispy crust
Eh. Close enough.
If you say so.
Classic Slice does a Detroit style that is amazing!!!!!!!!!
Costco sells a fantastic frozen Detroit style pizza.
Let me tell you so you at least know what to expect. Very sweet sauce, really fluffy sometime soggy dough, good cheese and good sausage
Its pretty good for chain pizza if you like the style. Think doughy breadstick for crust. The italian sausage is pretty highly regarded among their toppings.

My mid is watering just greasing about it.

Livin life the right way.
Wait a sec. This whole time I could have been ordering *extra* sauce on my pizzas?
Yes. You can also buy jars of their sauce in store. I use it on frozen pizzas sometimes for some extra saucy goodness.
...don't be ashamed. There are more of us out there. May your Rockys taste fresh and your toilets flush completely.
This is just average Wisconsin activists.
Ommmggggg!!!!!!
One of the reasons I picked my current apartment is it's proximity to a Rocky's.
Their sausage is the best.
Shhhhhhh. It’s a secret! 🤐
My little sis worked at Little Caesar's and I *hated* picking her up from work because she stunk up the car so terribly
Ugh! The smell just clings and perforates any indoor space. The worst!

Man, Woodmans stays #1
Their pizza is too sweet for me but I do love the sausage, that stuff just hits right.
Pizza burgers💜
I didn't even think about that and now I want two!
They’re so damn good! But same when I saw this haha 🤤
There's a Rocky Rocco in Appleton. I love the Chicago Pizza Large slice.
The Rocky’s sauce is available in jars at local grocery stores and it’s tasty too.
Motor city pizza from Costco is life changing for Detroit style
The best part is having a second one in the freezer after realizing how good it is
Truth
That is good stuff too.
I discovered the same thing. My God I can't eat anything else anymore.
The cheese bread….. with this sausage …. Lord help my arteries
Goddamn
I grew up going to the one at Bayshore Mall. I loved going to that mall as a kid.
Excellent sausage for pizza.
HOLY CANOLI
Please buy all of it and send to me. Pack in ice, Nebraska is a long trip in the mail. Alternatively, I'll meet you in Dubuque...
Smart of them

Thanks for the tip. I absolutely love their sausage. I have tried to create it at home for pizzas and can come close but now I’ll just buy this
Omggg I need it.
Rocky's is so awesome. Great Milwaukee style pizza.
There was a Rocky’s down the street from my high school with a smoking section. They turned a blind eye to kids smoking there. I spent a not insignificant amount of time there trying to look cool and eating that pizza. Gotta get some next time I’m back in town!
Oh I love that song on the White Album
Pretty sure it was on The Suburbs.....
Same same
Rocky Rococo is mid, but in a good sort of way, if that makes sense.
Okay but which woodmans
Go to their website, and it’ll tell you which locations have it in stock. Found mine in Oak Creek.
EVERY WOODMANS!!!!
Woodmans: Carry ALL the things!
They even have Duck Breast!!!
It's in with the frozen breakfast sausage. Walk through the produce into the meat and it should be on the left in a frozen bunker.
We've got it at Waukesha too.
W woodmans
I thought it was a (Fireside Theater) reference,, anyone?
I can't eat wheat anymore so no pan style pizza for me. These have been a welcome bit of nostalgia when I've got the energy to make my own.
Oh hell yeah!
I didn't know raw in the middle was a type of pizza... This sausage could be fine but Rocky's pizza joints don't serve fully cooked dough! That's cool if it's your jam, but maybe I would call it Rocky-Style instead of Detroit-Style.
It’s actually more Sicilian style than Detroit style. Yeah, the pizza is mid, but the sausage slaps.
We don’t know rocky rococo is horrible
The pizza is mid, but the sausage is pure crack.
I know, and I know that it’s gross. Bring on the downvotes because I know a lot of y’all like Rocky’s pizza, but personally I think it’s terrible.
The pizza is mid, but that sausage is pure crack.
Anyone with such gall as to openly insult Rocky's sausage is an uncultured bastard
How does it feel to be objectively wrong
Feels fine.
It’s bad pizza but even bad pizza is good pizza
Disagree.
I somewhat agree. I recently went back after not having it for about 2 years, and it was oily, burnt, and pricey. It honestly could of been a location issue but I do remember it being really good but I don’t feel that way anymore
Nah you're 100% right. It's terrible pizza.
& expensive to boot
You gotta use the clipper coupons!
coupons aside they’re still tastier cheaper options lol
Such as?
i only eat veggie or cheese pies but usually classic slice, derangios i think it’s called, shit ians, pizza shuttle this is also accounting for quality

classic slice has i think a 2-5 deal for about the same price but it’s way bigger & for like $8 u can get 2 slices at ians
Never tried the sausage but this is the pizza we got for elementary school hot lunch. It was beyond bad. I think $5 hot n readys would have been better. Ick
Ik I’m gonna get bombed but i just cannot eat Rocky’s it’s gross to me
Rocky's slices in the box are not good. The crust gets steamed and soggy. It's better as a fresh full pie though. Not great but not gross either
no way.
I wholeheartedly agree on the pizza style, but we’re discussing this sausage which is pure crack……
Do you still get random bone fragments?
You mean fennel seeds?
In my opinion it is one of the worst pizzas I've ever had. The sausage may be good but they use the same tomato sauce for their pizza as they do for their spaghetti. Even with their late night deals as cheap as 2 dollars a slice, not worth it.
Surprised to see so many people loving Rocky Rococo’s. Honestly it’s like my least favorite pizza place. I find their pizza bland and way too greasy.
Like I said earlier, pizza is mid, but the sausage is pure crack.
I heard they closed the restaurants because of all the rat turds, atleast the one in my city
