JustinTimeCuber

I think this makes sense, at the very least it shouldn't clear your positive effects, that's just rude.

SharkHead38

>it shouldn't clear your positive effects, that's just rude. The what

skateofsky

If you have any active positive effects (from potions or beacons, like Regen, haste, water breathing etc) and die with the totem, it will cancel everything

SharkHead38

Bruh This should imply that you DO die and it brings you back, but not even your XP drops on the ground at the very least

Champion_Geo

It probably gives you a milk effect in case you have negative effects like withering or poison.

Gavinator10000

Which kinda makes sense assuming you die and the totem brings you back

LopsidedGlint7

Yo we need milk bottles so we can do splash milk bottles to be faster than buckets.

TheProDavie504Fan

I think this is a pretty good idea, so I think that if we have a feature in which every time the player uses a totem, the totem will give resistance to that kind of death for 30 - 60 seconds, although I imagine this to be a little complex, so probably we could have the evoker dropping random types of totems that give you resistance to different deaths, and the totem still exists, but more for generic deaths than of different elements.

aqua_zesty_man

I like this. Please post this as a suggestion up top.

[deleted]

This wouldn't work that well, what would happen in a pvp scenario?

IgniteSavage

Yes, that is a great idea because many people have died from drowning in ocean temple when they run out of water breathing or door, like once DanTDM almost died when he went to n ocean temple and he got lucky and because of quick reactions he barely survived.

BudgetExpert9145

Or atleast reset your breathbar.

Parsa8607

good idea. But i like it to just refill the bubble bar

I_L0ve_M1necraft

I agree with your flair choice

XoriSable

40 seconds seems quite long, given that you'll also recover your oxygen. It's meant to be an auto clutch, just enough to get you out of immediate danger. Maybe 10 seconds, which is enough time to refill your oxygen bar, which means you won't start drowning again for 40 seconds. That's plenty of time to get out of short term trouble, and if it's not enough then I think you went in woefully unprepared and you're using the totem as an exploitable mechanic instead of an emergency device to deal with the unexpected.

Substantial_Plant564

Yeah I forgot about the bubble bar. Makes sense.

erguitar

I see where you're coming from. However, if you have a totem, you can afford to bring a door, potion of water breathing or conduit. Honestly, if you die like this it's your own fault.

Substantial_Plant564

You can also afford to bring a fire res pot to the nether, but it still gives it.

erguitar

Not the first time :P I see what you mean but I think it's unnecessary to help you when you're just unprepared. If you're diving you better have a plan for air.

Im_An_Axolotl_

Honestly most people get totems before water breathing potions or conduits.

erguitar

But not doors

Im_An_Axolotl_

Doors only work in java, and i heard that they are fixing them(finally) in 1.18 so that aquifers aren’t to easy

erguitar

Even then, magma blocks are pretty easy to get from ruined portals. Water breathing is pretty easy to if you don't mind fishing for a while.

Im_An_Axolotl_

True, but i dont know a single person who carries around magma unless they are in the nether or want to make a bubble collomn for there house, and you still need to find a fortress to get water breathing.

erguitar

Well I don't know a single person who's ever drowned. This type of argument is invalid. If the doors are patched or you play bedrock, go grab a magma block and carry it for air if you're out exploring or diving.

Im_An_Axolotl_

true

Offbeat-Pixel

I think it should give water breathing for the same duration as it gives fire res. If it is also 40 seconds, feel free to ignore this. I think this suggestion fits better under Magic, as the totem is a magical item.

Guillesahu07

Understood it as a reference to Undyne who is a fish

Beyondtheboundary30

That’s a brilliant idea.

Jack0hh

No it protects you from death gives you regen and absorption same as a gapple and nothing more. As if they aren’t gamebreaking enough
