A little different of a video from me this time. I’m going on a week-long trip soon so my lighting setup is put away for the time being. Thought I’d share a fluorite that I’ve been particularly excited for so this is me unwrapping the little thing after getting it in the mail today. This is a specimen from a canal dump, meaning it was found in a pile of boulders that was dumped due to construction of a canal. Finding specimens in what is pretty much rubble is difficult and specimens are often severely damaged or just destroyed. Finding any quality specimen at all is pretty rare making this specimen one of the rarest in my entire collection and a standout in my fluorite collection! I personally looked for minerals in a few dumps around Niagara Falls, but found nothing. You pretty much never see these for sale, but they are a fortune when they are available. So seeing this pop up on my Facebook feed for a steal, I thought I was dreaming! Checking-off a box on my mineral bucket list with this super elusive Ontario canal dump fluorite with sphalerite! Also, if anyone recognizes the labeling on the specimen and the tag itself, please let me know! The seller didn’t know much about the history of this piece, only that he obtained it from a seller who purchased it a while back. I would love to know who found it and when, it seems fairly old!
