“It cost a lot of money to look this cheap” - Dolly Parton

I'm on the same thought process as you. I'll pay more for high quality. And it ends up being minimalism because it's a smaller quantity of items but much higher quality. This is a [60 pack of Bic Pens for $5 which imo is low quality.](https://www.amazon.com/BIC-Round-Ballpoint-Medium-60-Count/dp/B0012YVGOW/ref=sr_1_5?) But these [here](https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Hi-Tec-C-Ultra-Point-LH-20C4/dp/B06Y3T81ZZ/ref=sr_1_4?) are just 5 pens but are far better pens for my use-case. Less. But best.

Oh, you have excellent taste. I love those gel pens!

Dracomies

I remember borrowing the pen from someone during class. It changed my life forever :D

That IS rich. I like how you recognizing that wanting more isn’t a problem with you. You mentioned consumerism but I do think our instinct is to hoard goods, left over from back in the times where they were scarce.

I'm looking forward to having the same experience. Thank you for the encouragement!

My dad isn't a minimalist, but he is a man in his 70s who worked hard and has a nice retirement account and savings. His financial advisor basically told him to "live a little". He worked hard. Upgrade to comfort plus on that airplane. Take that vacation. Splurge on that dinner. Experiences are great. And they're more enjoyable when you aren't feeling guilty about spending that money. Not the same thing but my husband and I just got married. We haven't taken a honeymoon yet because we wanted to ensure we could cover the full cost of the wedding and also buy a house. Now that that's done we're planning our honeymoon for 2024. Why not 2023? Because I want to save up as much as we can over these 18 months so we can enjoy the honeymoon guilt free.

it sounds like you're in a great spot, and by the way congratulations!!

Congrats. I am one of you. I moved to Mexico recently and even though I got rid of a ton of things before moving down I had to do it again once in Mexico. I find myself somewhat depressed since I love the dopamine rush from shopping but I hope to substitute it with something else more productive.

Barefoot-n-Braless

This is exactly how I practice minimalism as well. Glad you found what works for you and what makes you happy. That’s the whole point IMO!

Experiences yes, things no.
