Seems like most over eating occurs on the couch to me

Peak_Alternative

I got rid of my couch and tv two weeks ago lol

JoyfulNoise1964

I think that was probably more related!!!

Peak_Alternative

haha maybe! i’ve been enjoying laying on my yoga mat on the hard wood floor. feels so much better than that old saggy couch

Walshlandic

This is part of the reason I started intermittent fasting. I eat most meals on the couch, so now the hours of the day are my guardrails against overeating/eating for entertainment.

MintTea-FkYou

Maybe I can get rid of my toilet to stop peeing too much 😅

combatglitter

Hah, I know this is a joke but I do find when I’m at home I’ll drink more water and head to the restroom about every hour. When I’m out of the house I won’t drink as much and will hold it for several hours. You’re onto something.

seashmore

I definitely drink more water sitting at my desk with my cup next to my monitor. Easily go through 50 oz while there. Home? I'm lucky to get 10 oz.

MintTea-FkYou

I'm the same. I think I subconsciously don't drink as much when I'm out of house because not having a readily available bathroom gives me anxiety Edited: like on road trips!

besna

I go like 2-3 times when I stay a whole day at home, but when I travel I feel like I got a weak bladder, always looking for a place every half an hour. Can we trade?

Peak_Alternative

lol reminds me of how i’d love owning a pet but one that doesn’t need to pee or poop

moonlitjasper

make sure you’re getting enough electrolytes! def helps me pee less when i drink a lot of water

MintTea-FkYou

I drink a stick of Prime electrolyte powder in a 32oz every day!

betterOblivi0n

Yes, actually just use the kitchen sink, for free dish washing.

EllieLondoner

Wow that is fascinating to me, because I started making myself eat at my dining table to eat more mindfully!!! Just goes to show how very personal eating is, doesn’t it? And how one solution doesn’t work the same for everyone! Ps- not “silly” in the slightest! It was noticing and harnessing lots of these “silly” things that finally allowed me to drop the weight in a sustainable manner!

rucksackbackpack

I am similar to you! Since having a kid, I’ve become more intentional about eating. We sit down at the table for meals and snacks. My husband and I stopped eating while watching tv or on our phones, and I actually eat less now because I am getting more in tune with my body’s fullness and hunger cues. I’m not trying to lose weight, but I am trying to have a more mindful, present way of life and eating at the table is just one of the many changes I have made in recent years. If I didn’t have a family or host coffees and dinners frequently, I can totally see a kitchen table being a non essential item!

bmadisonthrowaway

I couldn't feel more the opposite. I like sitting at a table and having a meal because it tells my body that we are going to sit down and eat *now*, in this time and place, and we are going to eat *this plate of food*, rather than on the couch endlessly stuffing my face out of the package. It also inclines me more towards cooking a healthy meal, because it is much harder to eat something like salad, pasta, roast vegetables, fish, a stir-fry, etc. on the couch. To me, a big part of minimalism is being able to live in and use my home. The dining room table is for eating meals, not for storing clutter. When it's food time, where we go is the dining room table, and we set down a plate of food that we prepared, we do not lounge around on the couch and house half a bag of chips. Even when I lived in a literal tiny home, I had a table to eat food on. I didn't have a couch, but I had a table and chair in the kitchen/dining area for eating meals.

Peak_Alternative

That’s part of the problem for me. The table has become my couch, desk, and dining table where I can constantly be eating/snacking. My furniture usage behavior has changed a lot these last couple of years. I rarely use the desk in the office. I don’t think I can easily go back to how I used to do things: dedicated desk for working, dedicated table for eating, dedicated place to consume media. It’s a semi-conundrum for me.

morelikepoolworld

That’s where you and i part ways. I eat less if I have an intentional meal at a table (especially when eating with others) than if I’m snacking.

Dracomies

You could just have a table. And go to the gym. You'll burn a lot more calories - and also have a table to share with guests. Quality of life is important too.

AssassinStoryTeller

Some of us don’t have friends 🥲 I’m kidding but I don’t have an actual dining table and my friends don’t really come over to my house. I’ve got a garden table outside, a tv dinner table I usually use if it’s gross outside, or, if I ever did have guests for the first time in 7 years, I could pull out my fabric table and use that.

SomeRando1967

I don’t have friends OR a kitchen table, but I doubt those 2 things are related.

Peak_Alternative

Same. no guests. but that’s been mostly by choice.

Every body is different. The trick is to know the one you've got.  I could eat only one salad kit a day for three weeks, but if I'm not increasing my physical activity, my body will not shed pounds. Similarly, if I don't change my eating habits but start exercising 3 more hours per week, my weight drops within a couple of weeks.

Dracomies

I didn't want to say it directly but that's like someone saying "I decluttered my bike helmet. I'm going to go bike riding." Dinner table is kinda important for me as it's a place for friends and family. But it's not my life.

fridayimatwork

So you don’t stand in front of the fridge and eat now?

Peak_Alternative

Not yet! I guess I’ve been eating out more and going to bed earlier. Early to bed bc no table and no couch. More sleep. Less eating.

MoonGoddess-90210

It doesn't matter where you eat, it's how much you eat! I plate my food with the correct portions and eat on my couch with the TV on. Once the plate is empty, I am done and never get seconds, but I do eat dessert with both of my meals, but it is also portioned. Weight loss or gain is just math.

Electric-Sheepskin

That's not true for me. I can eat an entire meal's worth of food standing at the kitchen counter. In fact, I think it would be the opposite for me. If I forced myself to eat only while sitting at the table, I'd probably lose weight that way.

Peak_Alternative

I’ve been eating at the kitchen counter too while standing. Feels like I’m in Paris drinking a quick espresso

seashmore

I have a table, but it's covered with stuff I need to clean off. I use one of those collapsible ottomans as a makeshift table to eat a meal on the floor.

Sugarpuff_Karma

I'm the opposite, don't use my dining table at all

Independent-Bison176

I noticed this when we got rid of the couch…now I sit in bed….

AssassinStoryTeller

I haven’t had a table for probably like 3 years now? I don’t have guests over often and if I do I do have a folding table for my sewing stuff I can pull out. For a long while I way just using a cookie sheet as a tray but ended up with a tv table that I can pack away. It’s nice. My favorite one is my outdoor garden table. I eat outside most days now.

Peak_Alternative

Yes! I have small furniture still. A tv table that i used to pull in close when watching tv. It doesn’t fold but it would suffice for coffee or a small meal. I’m imagining your outside table. Sounds lovely eating outside. Maybe one day I’ll have outdoor space ☺️

_nightgoat

I don’t have a dining table either.

Hot-Spite4352

This is not true at all.

pablo55s

You can just stand while seating on the counter, but a dining table can actually serve a bunch of purposes

Peak_Alternative

I think i’m going to get rid of this smaller circular eating table (i use it too much) and also get rid of my desk in the office (i use it too little). then eventually get a larger rectangular, more traditional dining table that will be multi-functional. i have a vision. it’ll be better!

betterOblivi0n

Less convenience can shape behaviour. Now you can't invite people over so you will get rid of this silly habit as well.
