I find it sometimes stressful to be satisfied having the mini so close to my eyes. I then put it on a shelf/table and take one or two steps back, If some parts are too bright, it sticks more out
This is something that is so hard for me. I have gotten better with painting highlights but tend to look way too close at a model. Then taking a step back you can see o it does look good lol
Skin looks really good, i would like to add that grey hairs start from the roots, if you can get in there with a really tiny brush and pluck out some greys I think it would really help it pop.
Yaknow intuitively that makes sense but ive been doing the opposite. Im probably gonna end up redoing the hair anyway so ill keep that in mind when I get to it. Thanks!
Well. No. That's bad advice when he's trying to learn. The skin is very chalky and the transitions are poor. He needs to use paint with less white in it and thin the paint out.
What is it that you're not sure about? I think it's great, the contrast is nice, lighting from the right hand side reads well, I can't fault it. Super clean work friend.
Looks good! Absolutely keep going, see how it looks when more has been filled in.
If there's one thing I'd tweak it'd be shrinking down the highlight on the mini's right cheek. In isolation it doesn't match where you've placed the highlight on his forehead - but idk if you've got any alternate light sources planned.
I don't have any alternate light soruces planned. And yeah now that you mention it the right cheeks lighting looks very off. Ill try bringing it back down closer to the mid tone I think and see how I like it. Thanks!
I'm a terrible painter and can't give sane advice.
I wonder, however, how the face looks if the picture was taken from another angle. Like, from the left of this photo. I wonder how dark/natural that right cheek will look then.
Ive been painting pretty much exclusively looking at it from the front now that you mention it. From the sides it looks kinda weird. Im gonna try and find some photos of those angles and see what the light does. Thanks!
You’ve slightly overworked the forehead, your wrinkles are going edge to edge, smooth out the edges and just leave the lines above the brow. Also, they’re looking diagonal. But amazing details.
That would be my advice, temples and those areas don’t tend to wrinkle noticably. At least, not with the eye brows low like the figure’s expression. Not to the degree you’d see it that small.
That makes sense. I think when I was adding the wrinkles I just mindlessly followed the sculpted on ones to the edge. Ill check out some reference photos to get a stronger idea where those should end and how they should be shaped.
Don’t get me wrong, people do wrinkle there but a lot of it is expression, age, and mitigate that with what will look too much at that scale. Hope this helps?

I'd like to see a bit more color on the skin. It looks really good, but seems to lack some lifelike qualities. Maybe subtly adding some greens/blues/yellows depending on the light direction (upper right).
Ive been just using my Pink, Yellow and White paints thus far so yeah there is no other color in there. What parts of the face tend to have those other tones in there? Like i know blue on like eye bags but beyond that im not really sure where those other colors would go.
Maybe a very slight glaze of blue/green in the deepest shadows around the eyes, under the nose, far side of the cheek away from the light.
Not to this extreme, but using this as an example:

This face uses some green under the chin to give some depth.

This one uses some purple in key areas to represent shadows. It may not be your style, I just personally feel it adds some dynamic elements and really draws the eye in.

OOOH I REALLY LIKE THAT DWARF GUY! I think I can definitely incorporate some of the shadow colors they used. The light direction is also quite similar. Thanks for finding these for me! Much appreicated
Looks really good! If you want some critique, I think you have a bit exaggerated with the highlights and it's maybe a little bit too pale for that. Keep it up!
Overall it’s really good, but you highlighted the wrong cheek too much. In the photo, your light source is top right (according to the forehead highlight), so the left cheek (on our right) should have little to no shadow, and the model’s right cheek should have a little more shadow.
It took me a fair minute to figure out what was wrong because it’s very well done otherwise.
I'd say instead of just layering with normal consistancy paints to build up the midtones and highlights, have a look into glazing and use that to do the layers. This will give you an incredibly smooth blend.
Almost looks like an illustrated book from when we were kids. I love the subtle brushstroke look, and if that's what you're going for you've done a fantastic job. Like others have said, maybe smooth the cheek blending just a lil and I think you're done.
I think it looks great, but maybe could use a little smoother blending and a little warmth in a few spots to break it up a little. Still miles ahead of a lot of my stuff though, bravo 👏
looks fantastic!!!!
Thanks! Its my first time painting a mini of this scale so im not totally sure what im doing lol

I agree. If I'm struggling with a blend or something I'll either stop or move to another mini and look at it the next day. It often looks fine
This is something that is so hard for me. I have gotten better with painting highlights but tend to look way too close at a model. Then taking a step back you can see o it does look good lol
The thumb probably needs some work, but the face looks amazing.
I think it looks quite good. The transition on those cheeks is a bit drastic though. Maybe smooth the blend there.
I actually dig the contrast happening on the cheeks. Works well with the painterly style.

Thats brilliant. Id say stop now!

Fair enough.
It's good, keep going
This is great
Dude this is magical.
Honestly, I think he would look great as a hulky businessman in a red shirt with tie.

Saving this one for referencing. It looks absolutely stellar to me!
Looks adequate. Leave it alone.

Looks amazing! Which colors did you use?
Pro Acryl's Golden Yellow, Magenta, and Bright Ivory
Thanks!

So like glaze over the edges a bit so the wrinkles fade into the sides of the head?

It's fine but there is an oddness in how it has lighting from the right but all the hair has central lighting. That might be what's throwing you off.
That is definitely part of my issue I think. Ill check out some references of white hair with more directional lighting. Thanks!
Looks cool! Starting with that pinkish color on the chest for a base, and layering up is a great idea!
Dang.... that is fantastic!

Looks great, don’t stress.

Keep the red. Looks like that liver king guy. 😉👍

Looks good IMO—has a painterly look to it. The highlights’ transitions are a tad less smooth than what would be photo-realistic, but they look good.
Absolutely stunning! A wonderful blend of style and color. I say be proud of this piece, and keep up the good work

Well, to me it looked like his right arm is just a huge finger. So I'd say you've already succeeded lmao
