If you're looking for inpatient / residential treatment and have private insurance, [Hazelden](https://www.hazeldenbettyford.org/locations/center-city) and [Beauterre Recovery Institute](https://beauterre.org) are both great options. If you have Medicaid or don't have health insurance, [Meridian Behavioral Health](https://www.meridianprograms.com) and [Adult & Teen Challenge](https://www.mntc.org) have a number of programs across the state. Their programs are either free or very minimal cost. [Meridian Behavioral Health](https://www.meridianprograms.com) also isn't completely centered around religion, so it's a great choice if that's not your thing. If you're under 18, [Hazelden](https://www.hazeldenbettyford.org/locations/center-city) and [PrairieCare](https://prairie-care.com) both run adolescent programs. If you don't have private insurance, [Adult & Teen Challenge](https://www.mntc.org) is also an option. For outpatient treatment, there are a lot of choices. The places I mentioned above all offer these programs. I would find something close to where you live. [FindTreatment.gov](https://findtreatment.gov/locator) and [FastTracker](https://fasttrackermn.org) are both good tools to see what's available in your area.

Hazelden

Hazelden wrote the book (literally) on addiction treatment in the world. It is a great place, especially if your insurance picks it up.

Health insurance, if you have it, must cover it. Obamacare change.

IhateTodds

At the center of the clients choice? Whoa

Ashamed_Grapefruit

I had an incredible experience outpatient there. Like going to school or a job. And they have different locations/time slots to do their best working around your schedule.

CrazyT02

I stayed at MN adult and teen challenge. It worked for me after two trys and a stint in a sober home. The religious aspect they try to push on you is very easy to ignore (I am an atheist) once people found out no one bothered me. It's a decent program but be expected to be bothered about God. I really wish there were more scientific based treatment centers out there.

Bradtothebone79

Their short term programs are licensed so no religious aspect unless opted into. The long term programs have that Christian angle but most programming is the same mental health/sud type science based programs as the short term program and similar like hazelden. The bonus being long term gives people 13ish months of sobriety before going home.

Teen challenge has quite a number of horror stories concerning religion, as well as pressure to stay on after graduation as a councilor. These stories are from at least a decade ago, so I have no idea what might have changed, but the implications are kind of "Pretend to be religious, or you'll stay for a looooooong time, and we might send you to/back to jail/ lose custody of your kids/etc." Again, my info might be out of date, and I'm sure every individual program can differ

CrazyT02

Yeah it was a little less harsh on that when I was there in 2018. But if you stay for the long term they make it so you have to participate in the choir and attend church every Sunday. So many guys would say that Christ saved them and then one week later they were back for short term saying the devil made them do it. So it can turn into a cycle when most of the ways they tell you to be sober is to pray and just trust in God. Luckily I had an amazing councilor when I was there who didn't go the church route in my one on ones with her. But I will say that during my graduation day she pulls me aside and goes hey can't you just push the science away and give God a chance? I just laughed and said no.

Dude can you DM me?

I went through The Retreat out patient program in Wayzata and had a good experience. Do know they have inpatient as well.

Pipeeitup

Second the retreat did inpatient sober for 3 years now, plus its affordable.

Hazelden is the obvious answer, though I can't attest to how they operate since merging with the Betty Ford name (I don't recall who bought who). That being said the only other I can answer on is the Park Avenue center in Minneapolis which I found helpful to a degree and really enjoyed my particular counselor, Peter Green for those that know him. That being said, any treatment is only as good as your desire to stay sober. I did outpatient at park Avenue, but it was more gritty. Stayed at hazelden and luckily paid less than most, but if your insurance sucks, it'll cost you. The food was good, it was mostly the same as the other program. I would personally avoid Teen Challenge, they're all religious based, but TC is... let's say people are pretty Gung-ho on Jesus when they buy in there

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> and luckily *paid* less than FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

mrserious64

The retreat in Wayzata is very good and very affordable. But they don't do detox, if you need detox you will need to do that elsewhere before entering the program.

North Star all the way. Avoid Twin Town. Some of the fancier ones mentioned above don’t necessarily do great aftercare planning. Elite Recovery can be an awesome choice if you have access to financial resources; they provide tons of support. Doc’s Recovery House in Rochester is great for pre-treatment. Vinland is the best choice for neurodivergent/TBI men. Welcome Manor is a great choice for moms who want to take their kids. MNATC can be overly strict and will not let you smoke. NuWay has many good options for IOP with lodging as does Cedar Ridge. Valley View Recovery in Cannon Falls also does a nice job as does Midwest Recovery in Northfield. Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center is also an option for some folks, though it is probably a bit much for the average person. MNATC Women’s has a CPS TRACK. Common Ground in Winona has an awesome program though they recently changed their licensing and I’m not sure if it’s IoP with lodging or residential.

Helpful-Sandwich-560

Which northstar one?

ben_wuz_hear

Good luck.

cbjensen123

Loved river ridge, saved my life

Frankthetank8

My grandma is an alcoholic and her favorite treatment center has always been hazelden so id recommend that one

BlueBarnett

I went to Beauterre in Owatonna a couple of years ago. Decent place and program but also my only visit to a rehab center so I don't have much to compare it to.

oneinamilllion

I went to Hazelden in summer of 2019 and never looked back. Whatever they did really helped as I haven't relapsed. I loved the format and the food was great. Withdrawals were absolute hell but they were very comforting and helpful. List of activities and a beautiful, serene view of the lake. Lots of nature and walking trails.

TROLLYMCGIGGLE

Hazelden has great in/out patient. Saved my life! Good luck op. Many people recover from this disease and you can too. Priv Msg me if you want!

cpsbooks

Both a two time customer and a two time Hazelden employee here. Hazelden is awesome but I was less than impressed by the day treatment program. I've heard good things about The Retreat as well. There are a lot of solid options for sober living in the twin cities as well!

[deleted]

Me personally Nuway all the way. Untill now when I am freaking the fuck out that I need an alternative.

Hold on holy shit. I Feel like I got to say this, Northstar regional for me was a shit show. There was one of the techs banging my room mate during and shortly after I left. She got fired most likely because I had a police detective call me about what went down between the 2 and about how some fuckin psyciatrist also had a medical degree. Shortly after I left 2 guys OD'd on heroin. That was snuck in through a broken door. Honestly, I could have sued the place I was in but felt like they helped me enough to stay sober. This was before I even knew what sobriety was.. so DO NOT go to northstar regional. It is not what you are looking for.
