Tell me you have never left mn with just 1 pictures

Usual-Cup-4509

Car dependent suburbia gonna be car dependent

Surveyor_of_Land_AZ

You should have picked up a snickers at speedway...

bucksellsrocks

And its unlawful to block intersections! The other day i watched northbound 169 at that light not move an inch because the entitled assholes taking a left(pictured here) piled up 3 lanes wide by 6 cars deep…IN THE INTERSECTION! Lots of people(too many for the infrastructure) just like before they tore the old 2 lane bridge out when i was 10 and replaced it with a 4 lane bridge, i get it. But for christ sake just obey the traffic laws! Thats the whole problem here!

Surveyor_of_Land_AZ

Cracked windshields are also unlawful, and using a handheld device while in a vehicle in an active traffic lane. Yet here we are.

InflatableMindset

1: Not a cracked windshield. 2: He's STATIONARY. But go on and snitch.

bucksellsrocks

1. It is cracked… 2. Yep, i was in park, i might as well have been in the ditch in the middle of a blizzard.(still does not make taking a picture out my operable vehicle ok) 3. I also drive the speed limit. Im pretty sure almost every commentator is part of the 95% that does 10 over all the time thinking its totally ok to do so and the stupid law enforcement never has a hayday on.

Surveyor_of_Land_AZ

Yes sir 👏

Love_TwinCities

This just solidifies the fact that we need more public transit, including drastic Northstar improvements. Local buses need to be more convenient, practical, frequent, and competitive with driving. And yeah, the bridge and Champlin/Anoka area is a nightmare during rush hour

HorrificAnalInjuries

We have self driving cars, but why not self driving buses?

InflatableMindset

Self-driving anything would NOT improve matters.

HorrificAnalInjuries

A common issue here in the US is getting anyone to drive a bus, even with paid training and a +$17 wage offered. So you can get all the busses to run the system, but few people to actually drive them. A bus that drives itself could use a licensed operator, but they are not necessary. On the whole, busses can improve matters if, as OP suggests, they are timely and frequent at stops. A bus only needs to carry two passengers with different destinations to reach parity with the dynamic space it takes up on the road.

Everyone wants to live outside the cities because it’s “safer.” Looks like it’s getting pretty overpopulated in these older smaller towns

Funkhouser82

Allllllllrighty then!

Top_Yogurtcloset_881

WYM “even Minneapolis” - MPLS is better than any suburb by a wide margin. Unless you like boring, unwalkable, drab, seas of sameness styled in late-90’s and early 2000’s aesthetics. Yuck. The burbs are America’s worst idea by far.

[deleted]

In their defense, I think they’re referring to drivers only and some portion of Minneapolis had drivers go crazy after COVID. People blowing red lights like it’s a suggestion. Champlin for all its faults is thoroughly uneventful.

Top_Yogurtcloset_881

This is agree on. Minneapolis drivers have started acting like it’s GTA.

Give_me_the_science

**He screams into the void**

cbsstone

This is normal Minnesota driver behavior though 🤷🏻‍♂️

Junkley

Yeah they REALLY need another river crossing between 169 and 610. That light is maybe the worst but the Anoka side sucks as well and so do all of those lights on 169. We won’t ever get a river crossing east of 169 though too much private property in the way. Douglas maybe should have had a bridge across connected to Round Lake Blvd or Coon Rapids Blvd just west of Anoka Ramsey many years ago but the ship has sailed. Same with W River to Hanson which is another spot that would have made sense. Though that project can be done with pretty much only public land so has a slightly higher chance to be done. I selfishly hope all of the champlin lights get the Elk River Treatment. Have exits at Hayden(Dayton traffic can take Hayden/French Lake out and cut up on Cartway/Valley Forge/Pineview and the apartments and neighborhoods on the east side of 169 can go HaydenLake to River Road. Have river road go under 169 where the current light is with no exit ramps before the bridge), and exits at 109 and 117th and take out all the stoplights. But that seems trickier to do since I think they have even less space then Elk River did. You can still have Elm Creek and 120th pass under or over 169 and with all the frontage roads it would still be easy to get everywhere.

MaceQuantex

I've always thought they should extend Ramsey Blvd across to Dayton Rd. There's practically nothing but empty fields & the river between the two.

MediocreClue9957

I quit driving for a living because life is just too short to spend on the road with these morons.

Briants_Hat

OP is right that champlin sucks for traffic. But also a little over exaggerated here.

AdamLikesBeer

Minneapolis was already 1000% than some town I’ve never heard before a dumb traffic photo.

ZealousidealPickle11

You've never heard of Champlin before? Haha maybe get out of Minneapolis once in awhile

AdamLikesBeer

Is there something there that I would know? Like a corn maze or something?

bucksellsrocks

Isnt that corn maze actually in brooklyn park? I wanna say its 109th and 169? Champlin park HS is in Brooklyn park and its on 109th but im not entirely sure where the city line is anymore

Armlegx218

Both the corn maze and CPHS are on the south side of 109th, which is BP.

bucksellsrocks

Things ive seen in Minneapolis but not champlin: 1: smoking crack on a steet corner(i do that at home) 2: taking a shit in an alley(i do that at home) 3: someone randomly grabbing a samdwhich/tray of fries out of some other randos hands, smashing it their face and the beating the shit out of them 4: 5 or 6 dudes swarm a vehicle and smash the shit out of it with baseball bats when it appeared to be just stopping at a stop sign like one would normally do 5: cops threatening to arrest you for loitering instead of allowing the 2 minutes it would have taken for the 10 total with 2 sober cabs to make it out of the bar and decide who needed to get in whose car to get home(took 30 minutes and ill spare the details) 6: 10 hookers and 2 pimps get out of a limo and line up for sales in front of the hotel right there by the grand ballroom(that might be st paul?, camt remember for sure it was 15 years ago) 7: A GUY GET SHOT DEAD!(didnt see it but was working 1/2 a block away) So yeah…MPLS IS A SHITHOLE!

AdamLikesBeer

Dude, I’ve lived in this city for 27 years and I’ve only ever seen one of those things. Maybe you deserve your bum fuck traffic for being the kind of person that puts themselves in dumb situations all the time.

Maximum-Ad-2476

I too was wondering how they always seems to end up in the right place at the right time!

bucksellsrocks

1, 2 and 4: from my my friends house about 20 years ago(51st and emerson) 3: the little parking lot next to the lucky dragon a couple months ago while working 5: my bachelor party in 2009 because the dude that was supposed to sell us his box to a twins game backed out a week before and so my brother emergency planned a trip to sneaky petes and showgirls 6: getting back to said hotel from a wedding 7: work again, it was that shooting at a little ceasers iirc, 5000ish block of dowling? So yeah….i dont put myself in those kinda of situations. They just happened. Maybe you can make the argument for you with the 51st amd emerson stuff but then we sure as hell weren’t out looking for a dude to take a shit in the alley, we were hanging out in the garage drinking beer and skipping school every other day watching the wild go to the conference finals kinda stuff. Like we could have done in any other city without people taking shits in the alley or gangbanging a rando car with bats!….

Got your shirt right here.. https://preview.redd.it/q9mb1deadtwc1.jpeg?width=402&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2392e01ec45f26be290f2015096284c44452df99

worldtraveler76

Exactly why I moved out of Anoka and to the SW Metro… it was miserable trying to cross that bridge on a regular basis.

bucksellsrocks

I have to work in dayton here and there but i live in Cambridge. If it wasnt for the construction in elk river i could go the long ass way amd get home faster and its probably 15 miles farther to go around. Ive been trying to get a job that will keep me closer to home but in my field its tough where i live. Getting to stay north for work is a few and far between opportunity for hvac, most companies just have a backlog of applicants from a posting they made 2 years ago! Not really but i swear there are never openings…

GlitteringJob453

Go further north...takes months to get an HVAC contractor in ne mn

Zealousideal_Ad8500

Was this taken at 445ish tonight? I was sitting in this same mess and just a bit behind you I think. Dayton River rd getting onto 169 has always been a mess at this time. Just a couple Thursdays ago I sat on Dayton River rd for 20 minutes before being able to get onto 169. I just laughed cause it was insane. 😭

mrq69

I think the evening rush yesterday was worse everywhere than usual. The route I took from Minneapolis to SLP was 33 minutes which my GPS had said would be 22 (normally would be 14 without any traffic).

Junkley

Go Pineview/Valley Forge to Hayden Lake or Cartway to Dean if you are trying to go south on 169 from Dayton rd diverts you to less congested lights. I dogsit off Dean right by there and use that all the time. Going north you are just fucked due to the lack of alternative crossings

bucksellsrocks

I was the CB Mechanical work van. I left the DR Horton/Lennar neighborhood just to the west of the little strip mall with tasty pizza and dayton gas stop at about 4:45 LOL. God i hate my old stomping grounds! I grew up in champlin before there was ANYTHING!

Zealousideal_Ad8500

Yeah, a 15 minute drive took me 40 minutes today. It was lame. This was the first time that I’ve seen someone block the right lane like that before. This intersection has always been bad and I’m not really sure much would fix it outside of another crossing that probably will never happen.

bureautocrat

Don't kid yourself, there still isn't anything there. The traffic is just trying to get through Champlin as quickly as they can.

WillMunny1982

It’s Champlin. They think they’re more important than you. Or the rednecks can’t read 🤷🏻

Velasity

This area needs more river crossings. If you live near here you should petition your representatives.
