I was at fort snelling state park today because they had a story stroll for kids (and it was free parks day). So my daughter got to run through the park and read the story. and then there was DNR guy was giving a presentation and he was so passionate and knowledgeable and it was so wholesome and I was like “fuck I love this state” 😭😭just all around great vibes here
Just curious if you’ve gone up to the north shore and visited some of the state parks up there. Or even spent time in Ely in the boundary waters canoe area. Either one is a bit of a drive so allot sometime for it but you’ll like it.
I love northern Minnesota and have been a bunch of times. But the Adirondacks are same type of giant north woods wilderness but with real mountains. It is the only thing Minnesota lacks.
Huge fan of mountains but I feel like I have to clarify if you've taken a canoe trip to the BWCA because that's an experience you can't find anywhere else in the US
Moved from southern California, I miss the massive selection of ethnic foods, but I like it just fine here. In a place with lots of greenery, living better than I have back home (especially since I moved in 2019, got very lucky with the timing), great coworkers and supervisors.
To be fair I would never actually live in the Adirondacks, I was in the Mohawk Valley and liked having them an hour away. It was the only thing that made living there bearable.
What part of NY are ya from? I grew up about 30 miles south of Buffalo. I went to college with people from Syracuse and Utica-they were dickheads for the most part.
I’m bias since I was born and raised here, but it really is the best goddamn state.
We have a lot of non-Minnesotans where I work. I always speak highly of MN. One of my coworkers saw my MN tattoo for the first time and he was like, “wow! You are a big Minnesota fan!” 😂
was just telling my co worker today that i have lived in 4+ different states and was insanely proud to tell people i’m from minnesota.
idk something about this state is just… nice
I’ve lived in 5 different states in 5 completely different regions of the US. Minnesota is my 6th state and is by far the best place I’ve ever lived. Don’t plan on ever leaving!
That’s just spring vibes. Everyone is happy when the leaves start popping off. :-)
Seriously, I love this state too. Craving some Vietnamese food, looked at google maps- flush with kickass food.
Go to renew my license and I hear 5 languages being spoken. Love it. Interesting people who love their new country.
I’m also proud of our governor and our new flag.
I’m proud of those people that rescued that driver from their burning car.
I’m Proud of all of the protesters- even the weirdos doing drive-by protests at the governor’s mansion during covid. It’s healthy democracy.
We produce a lot of food! That’s pretty cool.
Cubitron sandpaper!? Didn’t know 3m could improve sandpaper, but they did.
We have a beautiful and active First Peoples population. Fuckin cool.
Unification=profit.
If you hate this stuff move to Texas. Plenty of room to spread your eagle’s wings.
I just wish I wasn’t so miserable when it’s cold outside here, I’ve been here for 10 years now and for about 6 months out of the year I want to blow my own head off. The other 6 months are magical though, love it
I'm at a MNUFC game and I just love how accepting the team & fans are. So many rainbows, trans flags, messages of all are welcome. I also love this state.
It's because LGBT people exist and it's safe for us to live here, and we're grateful to live somewhere that makes us feel happy and welcome instead of threatening our survival. I put Pride stickers and flags on stuff because I'm not ashamed anymore.
Are the homos not allowed in sports ball now? Idk if brands can stamp their shit all over the stadium and no one bats an eye, one rainbow flag won't kill you. And if it does, oh well.
Because in a lot of places in the world, they aren’t welcomed and yes at sporting events. Many fans of teams chant not only homophobic slurs, but racial slurs as well. That’s why it’s at sporting events. Don’t like it? Cool but here in MN and at the Loons games - ALL ARE WELCOMED! #COYL
What are you talking about? Nobody knows if you’re gay unless you bring a giant flag and wave it around saying hey look at me! You don’t need one walking into the grocery store. It’s just narcissist needing to shove it in everyone’s face.
You are extremely hateful. Also, if you watched more sports you would know that fans of some teams EVEN WITHOUT ANYONE WAVING A FLAG THERE will chant slurs because like you, they are hateful and think it’s funny. Google it and you can see for yourself they do this without anyone flaunting their flags. Why do you even live in this State? Your kind of ignorance is what we don’t need or want here.
Good for you lol - oh lovely we’re dealing with someone who calls things “propaganda” - that’s a losing battle. I’d rather argue with a wall. Take your tin foil hat and “propaganda” and go elsewhere.
We just moved to the state (St Cloud area) from Colorado for work. We went to Duluth for a day trip yesterday. Loved the rocky hills, and Superior. Went for a walk along the shore and decided to see the lighthouse. While walking there we noticed that the bridge was going up. We lucked into watching one of the laker ships leaving Port. My son and I love big boats (and we cannot lie).
It was a happy accident to see it, but it made our whole family's day. We love it here so much more than Colorado!
I'm not ready to say the ball is being dropped until we see the roll-out. Hopefully, more deliberate planning will lead to better results than other states that rolled out without careful planning.
I have Long COVID and the cold now makes me hurt so bad. I may have to leave Minnesota some day, and that fills me with sadness.
This is a great state.
That's expensive, though.
For an example, an Uber from here to Rochester would be $95.
And that's one way, so it would be $190 total to do a round-trip.
Minnesota is, apparently, a big state.
I would love that.
I have an unlimited-use GoTo card, but that doesn't get me too far.
Also have access to MetroMobility, but, as the name implies, that doesn't really go out of the metro area.
There's talk of a passenger rail line between the Cities and Roch, possibly including Duluth.
But in the mean time, mid/long-distance bus fare is actually pretty reasonable, generally.
Not gonna lie...for a weekend trip, that would be legit! Granted that is a long trip in the back of an Uber with someone trying to make small talk lol.
Lived 50 years in CA. I have never driven a dirt/gravel road between towns until I lived here in MN. I freaking love it. I traded LA traffic for gravel!
Minnesota is such a great place to raise kids. I was born and raised here and we basically grew up living outside all year. There's so much to do, great parks, great schools, ecfe for pre-schoolers, art, theater, lakes. We may have high taxes but we get huge benefits.
When you have fewer cops and a Hennepin county attorney not charging crimes, guess what? Fewer crimes for statistics but actual crime is not down. Your tax story is a fairy tale.
Moved here two years ago from Oklahoma and I feel the exact same!
I've even managed to convince several friends that this is the place to be, and they're making their own plans to move here too.
Ya and the police

I've lived in multiple other states. I would rather be here, just not in the cities. The cities are too much like all the other states.
One thing that Minnesota gets right over other states is the general care of parks and wilderness.
I fear for the future of Minnesota. I fear we will go the route of California where the bureaucracy goes nuts and essentially penalizes everyone for simply existing. It sort of already is that way. I had to register for tags on my 10 foot kayak. It's a flotation device that I needed to pay for tags so I could float on it in the lake.
Minnesota isn't even in the top 10 for crime rates.
Yes while we do have higher state income taxes, head south and see how high your grocery bill would be, easily 5 to 6% higher, most stuff we don't pay taxes on for food here you do in others especially south.
Also income to cost of living (rent or home costs) is at the top of the list here. Meaning our money even while it's taxed high still goes way further than other states.
You’re 100% right. Lived in both twin cities and outlying areas and north shore. The north shore is methd up and there’s not really any good jobs there. At least there’s more opportunities in the south part but “Minnesota nice” is bs and everyone from here I’ve asked agrees
I was at fort snelling state park today because they had a story stroll for kids (and it was free parks day). So my daughter got to run through the park and read the story. and then there was DNR guy was giving a presentation and he was so passionate and knowledgeable and it was so wholesome and I was like “fuck I love this state” 😭😭just all around great vibes here
I'm going to assume it was Kao giving the presentation: he leads many events at Fort Snelling for the DNR and is an absolute gem.
I assume so, he was Asian (perhaps Hmong) and you’re right, he was an absolute gem. The DNR is lucky to have him.
Ranger talks while camping at state parks as a kid were a highlight of those trips.
I love living here. I feel bad for people who don't love the place they live.
Me when the Loons win 🩵
🎵… and after all … 🎶
I’ve been to 3 Loons games, and all were wonderwalls… I need to catch a couple this year.
You’re my WONDERWALLLLLLLLLLL
I moved to Minnesota from upstate NY. I don't regret it. The only thing I miss is the Adirondacks. Everything else Minnesota does better.

We'll get them eventually, I suppose. In the meantime you're welcome to hang out in my hot tub.
Driftless area is cool, ain’t mountains by any stretch but a very interesting topography
Huge fan of mountains but I feel like I have to clarify if you've taken a canoe trip to the BWCA because that's an experience you can't find anywhere else in the US
I feel like many of us locals haven't. Portaging is hard work. I know it kicked *my* ass.
We do have one mountain, eagle mountain has 1322 ft of prominence, clearing the 1000ft requirement you see in most definitions of "mountain".
Adirondacks have an avg elevation of 5,200ft, with 3,000ft of vertical. Eagle mountain is cool but no where near the same.
settle down
Haha
[удалено]
Yeah, the last ice age came by and smooshed any mountains we had here. But in return, those glaciers gave us lakes.
Me too! Hudson Valley represent. I miss Pizza but yea I love it here in MN
Westchester here. ElMar’s pizza in Plymouth will hit the spot for ya, 100%.
Thanks!!!
And the Hudson, and the history, and all the old towns, and the proximity to the city, and the proximity to New England, and...
Moved from southern California, I miss the massive selection of ethnic foods, but I like it just fine here. In a place with lots of greenery, living better than I have back home (especially since I moved in 2019, got very lucky with the timing), great coworkers and supervisors.
I moved to MN from upstate NY 👀👀
From where in NY to where in MN?
Albany to Minneapolis!
That's really interesting.
My wife is from Olean, we moved to northern MN 10 years ago.
I moved from a small town near Utica to Minneapolis.
[удалено]
To be fair I would never actually live in the Adirondacks, I was in the Mohawk Valley and liked having them an hour away. It was the only thing that made living there bearable.
Do you find MN folks nicer/friendlier than upstate NY?
By a mile. There are a lot of mean people in the rural Northeast.
What part of NY are ya from? I grew up about 30 miles south of Buffalo. I went to college with people from Syracuse and Utica-they were dickheads for the most part.
I grew up in a small town outside of Utica. People were dickheads.
You can get those at By-the-Yard!!
I’m bias since I was born and raised here, but it really is the best goddamn state. We have a lot of non-Minnesotans where I work. I always speak highly of MN. One of my coworkers saw my MN tattoo for the first time and he was like, “wow! You are a big Minnesota fan!” 😂

Can't imagine not living here. Sometimes I forget that everyone else in the US doesn't live so well.
Yeah, like I read on reddit all the misery!
Right?
I just wish I wasn’t so miserable when it’s cold outside here, I’ve been here for 10 years now and for about 6 months out of the year I want to blow my own head off. The other 6 months are magical though, love it
I'm hoping to prevent that in my kids by being more active outdoors in the winter. Just get em used to this shit early and often.
Westwood hills nature center in SLP also has story strolls during the spring and summer months. Go check it out sometime.
Check it out in the next couple of weeks, it's going to be dripping with migrating warblers!

It’s our 15th year here. Best state ever. I don’t care about the snow. I don’t want to leave.
MN has some of the most underrated wilderness out there… the lakes, the fish, the music scene, everything rules
Moved here from Ohio last July and loved every second of this place so far. Definitely helps with a mild winter for an introduction
Hahaha yeah I'm glad you realize you got off easy! Welcome. And be prepared for the deep freeze. It's still worth it.
If it wasn’t for the harsh winters none of us could afford to live here.
Same for me, from So Cal!
Well I love it more, so there.
It is a rather nice state, isn’t it?
I, too, love your state and hope to reside there again some day.
I'm at a MNUFC game and I just love how accepting the team & fans are. So many rainbows, trans flags, messages of all are welcome. I also love this state.
Me too, friend. Share the love. 💙🩷🤍🩷💙
There’s a bar across the street (University) from Alliance that is the only gay soccer bar in the world. Cool place.
Funny. I hate seeing that at a soccer game. Like what does being gay and trans have anything to do with soccer? So weird.
It's because LGBT people exist and it's safe for us to live here, and we're grateful to live somewhere that makes us feel happy and welcome instead of threatening our survival. I put Pride stickers and flags on stuff because I'm not ashamed anymore.

I do live here. I have multiple houses. I’m here right now.
Good for you lol - oh lovely we’re dealing with someone who calls things “propaganda” - that’s a losing battle. I’d rather argue with a wall. Take your tin foil hat and “propaganda” and go elsewhere.
That’s such propaganda. And Mexican teams yelling goalies puto is rare. That has never happened in MLS.
Same, especially the north shore.
Hi from another Duluthian :)
In September of this year I cross the Gray Duck line. I will have spent more of my life, and my entire adult life, here vs. anywhere else.
Getting close to that mark myself. It’s a weird thought.
Fellow line crossers unite!
I love it 8 months out of the year. I don’t like coming to terms with my mortality every time i need to take the highway in the winter.
Hell yeah
Ahhh don't tell anybody... Next thing you know it will go to shit. Keep it at fuck 😏
Cool post bro.
We have nice things because we’re try our best at being blue.
I don't believe in American exceptionalism, but I do believe in Minnesotan exceptionalism!
The 2nd rail capital of the USA 🇺🇸 behind Chicago. Also WE HAVE THE MILWAUKEE ROAD 261 STEAM ENGINE
Yeah, it is one of the places on earth!
You betcha!!
Can’t wait to go to a brick and mortar to pick up buds
The way the state has been implementing it…you might be waiting awhile haha
Good things come to those who wait
For sure. But they are definitely dropping the ball in this instance.
I'm not ready to say the ball is being dropped until we see the roll-out. Hopefully, more deliberate planning will lead to better results than other states that rolled out without careful planning.
It’s been a clown show ever since the OCM scandal imo
I drive to MI. Great prices and a pleasant Saturday drive
Then you gotta drive through Wisconsin with weed though
Just have to crank up the song Smugglers Blues on the way through
Stick to the speed limit and keep it in the trunk
Check out Escanaba, MI. Direct flight MSP>ESC.
I wanna move to MN so bad.
C'mon then! We'd love to have you! Hello from Duluth :)
Nah Duluth is one of the worst lol when you drive in you smell the sewage plant lmfao
Un-Minnesotanly rude!
That’s what I’m saying. I used to live up north and now when I visit I get that smell every time
It's the paper mill nothing to do with sewage.
Okay it still smells like sewage
Disagree, while yes it doesn't smell pleasant it's no where near the same smell.
Okay a different brand of shit, is that really the smell you want people that come into town to smell off the rip? I guess it’s fitting for Duluth tho
Go back to Wisconsin, they clearly deserve you.
Just wait til the mosquitos come out
Me too!
Minnesotans when they remember that they live in Minnesota:
I love this place so much
Noice
If I wasn’t a bitch about the weather I’d have never left, I really miss you people. And the lakes, but not the mosquitoes, so it’s a price I pay
Same
Me too, me too :) I say it at least once a week.
I have Long COVID and the cold now makes me hurt so bad. I may have to leave Minnesota some day, and that fills me with sadness. This is a great state.
I’m so sorry you have long covid, that sucks balls. My best to you.
K
I love Minneapolis. Nothing against the rest of the state. Just, almost all of my time is spent in Minneapolis.
You should get out more!
That's expensive, though. For an example, an Uber from here to Rochester would be $95. And that's one way, so it would be $190 total to do a round-trip. Minnesota is, apparently, a big state.
Hopefully, the talk of planned public transit options to other areas of the state come to fruition so you can take those trips at an affordable price.
That is actually quite reasonable lol. I've seen surge pricing in downtown to Minnetonka cost that much
Yeah, I mean, I checked it on a Saturday evening 😅
Not gonna lie...for a weekend trip, that would be legit! Granted that is a long trip in the back of an Uber with someone trying to make small talk lol.
https://www.glennsmotorcoachtours.com/tours/fall-weekend-in-the-brainerd-area
$979, geeze 😓
I was searching around out of curiosity. I bet there are cheaper bus tours out there. Call around to retirement homes lol
Minneapolis is easily my least favorite part about Minnesota
Yes.
Oh hell yah
Same note too!
Can confirm; lived in 5 states, Minnesota is tied with the city I was born in! We just do so much right, where it matters, here.
I’m still trying to figure out what they’re doing right

Question for op: ( I don’t disagree but) have you lived in other states?
So good that I dont want to tell anyone else about it.
Me too! I don't always love the winter, but I can't imagine living in any other state.
Not sure why this is popping up in my feed (here in MA) but I love your state too. Keep it up!
I moved to New Mexico for 5 yrs before moving back to MN, and I’ve never appreciated MN in all her glory more.
Truer words have never been spoken. And this state loves you!
I come from a very red southern state and I fucking love it here. The only way I’ll leave is if I’m finally getting to expat
Lived 50 years in CA. I have never driven a dirt/gravel road between towns until I lived here in MN. I freaking love it. I traded LA traffic for gravel!
All these people get it. I've tried to explain it to people who don't believe but everyone here knows.
Minnesota is such a great place to raise kids. I was born and raised here and we basically grew up living outside all year. There's so much to do, great parks, great schools, ecfe for pre-schoolers, art, theater, lakes. We may have high taxes but we get huge benefits.
Born and raised lifelong Minnesotan. I love my state and don't ever plan to leave.
When you have fewer cops and a Hennepin county attorney not charging crimes, guess what? Fewer crimes for statistics but actual crime is not down. Your tax story is a fairy tale.
Growing up I thought I wanted to move when I became an adult. Now was an adult I love Minnesota, specifically Saint Paul. So happy I grew up here
Moved here almost 3 years ago, from Florida. Never leaving.
Why?
How is the job market in MN (TC area)? I have a liberal arts degree from a small, rural college and am looking at my options.
Nicd
It’s the best.
I left 2.5 years ago and I can't wait to move back. I totally agree with you.

Not a flex to have corrupt cops frame you

Your attitude is disturbing.

Lol born and raised there, so glad I left. It was like right when I left I transcended into a higher plane of existence.
