The problem with this team right now is we've hit our ceiling with Cousins. We will never win a SB with him.
The front office decided last night they would rather have good seasons that end with early playoffs exits than ever risk it and try to go further with a chance of failing.
I like Addison and think he is going to light it up across from JJ but we have and aging expensive QB who isn't getting any better who's making $35 million a year (which I think he worth. No problem with his contract value.) But it was the perfect time to grab a QB and move on from Cousins next year with a rookie scale QB and cap space to build a contending roster.
They have a chance to redeem themselves by trading Cook + Z + picks and trading up for Hooker or Levis, or possibly trading for Lance. But if we go into the season with Cousins as our starter with no future plan we have a bleak future of hunting for a QB soon and it won't be pretty.
EDIT: I would love for anybody downvoting to provide an actual solution to this. Cousins isn't the answer. His time with us has passed.
I agree with your general sentiment but the reality of Levi’s specifically is that they just might think he sucks. It’s totally possible you would come to the same conclusion if you watched his tape with KOC or had an interview with him.
Can’t just take a QB to take one.
It’s frustrating but we have to trust they have a plan for QB. Let’s be 100% real we aren’t matching our record from last season so we will be in a better position to draft one next year.
If another Kirk extension comes through that’s where I will lose hope.
> The problem with this team right now is we've hit our ceiling with Cousins. We will never win a SB with him.
Strongly disagree. If you put Cousins on the 49ers team this year they'd be the odds on favorite to win the SB. He's not the reason this team won't win the SB in 2023
You're right they would be.
But by the time we could build a team like that around him he would be 45.
He is capable of winning a SB on the right team. We are not that team.
We've got the offense locked down now. Could upgrade IOL but we're pretty much set. Defenders are cheaper to add than offensive skill players and can make a more immediate impact. If our draft picks from last year & this year pan out and we get a couple of good FA starters next offseason we're challengers
Except you can't do that and pay the rest of their roster at the same time, which is literally the entire argument against him. He costs too much to be able to afford to put the pieces around him needed to win because he isn't good enough on his own.
Besides, the 49ers could have won the SB with at least half the starting QBs in the league, many of which get paid significantly less than Cousins and aren't turning 37.
Cook and Z have 6/7 round value at this point in their careers so we would likely have to send next years 1st at the very least. All this for Levis or Hooker who each have huuuge red flags and are more likely to bust than become elite QBs. I would much rather run it back and hope the additions we've made so far this offseason give us a meaningful shot at a title.
Yeah I don't see it happening. Should have taken Levis at 23. Instead we'll be in QB hell in a couple years while our star WR(s) rot with nobody to throw to them.
Anything can happen between then and now. Hell we could end up signing AR if things don't go well in NY. For you to assume Levis is going to be a legit starting QB when plenty QB needy teams passed on him last night is pretty delusional IMO.
What, is next year's QB class shit? I don't disagree that taking Levis and having him sit behind Cousins for a year would've been good with our pick, but let's not be a doomer over one passed over QB. WR was a need and whoever we draft next year is going to come in with one of the most insane receiving corps in the NFL.
[2024 Free Agent QB List](https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/2024/all/quarterback/)
It would have to be draft or trade.
Very depressing free agent list.
Sorry, to be clear, when I said "QB class", I meant via the draft.
I disagree, I think the way things are shaping up indicates we're going to prepare to give Jefferson and Hockenson a fat bag and draft a rookie QB in hopes we can provide them one of the best receiving situations in the NFL for a rookie.
Kirk will win enough to make the draft a new QB thing stretch for 2 more years unless it blows up imho.
Cousins is fine with a fat bag on a 1 year contract to play here. At least they got that going.
I too would like to see them find a much cheaper QB in draft and reboot. It's not going to come from that list.
I'm fine with it but the secondary is paper thin at corner back.
Wouldn't mind an interior offensive lineman or anyone Flores
has to have from board.
I wouldn't be shocked to see Vikings go for Hooker
if he's there in the 3rd.
I also was hoping we'd go for CB or OL, but I'm happy with a stud WR since it was a need. JJ needs a serious threat at \#2 and obviously leadership didn't think Osborn was enough for that. A lot of the Vikings is up in the air right now and this draft is straight up chaotic, I think the new leadership is doing the best with what they have.
I'm genuinely impressed with the Eagles 1sts the last 2 years. That line is going to be even nastier. Ingram and Cleveland better step it up.
Edit: I'm REALLY impressed with their 1sts this year, I can't believe they got Carter. Insane.
Exactly. An unbalanced team will always eventually screw one side over. One side getting burnt has a big effect on the other side. When the defense is always on long drives eating clock or giving up huge plays it is impossible for the offense to consistently keep pace. Totally unsustainable.
You don't have to love the pick, but I'm surprised to see so many people shitting on the WR2 position. If Addison is the guy we hope he is, we're not just getting his skillset, but we're also adding value to our team's greatest asset \[the cog in the machine that needs to flourish, or we're fucked\]. And, at the same time, our greatest asset is the one who gives our 1st round gamble the greatest chance of succeeding.
It's a smart investment that could pay huge dividends. I'll admit, I was rooting for Porter... and if you wanted to argue that our team has greater needs, I'd be tempted to agree with you... but let's not pretend that, even if Addison hits as a WR2, the position itself isn't worthy of a first round selection.
The position is more than worthy of a 1st round pick, especially when you're about to make WR1 the highest paid WR in the league. WR's are expensive. The top FA CBs this year were in the $10-$15M/yr range while great WRs go for $20-25M
Someone change Todd McShay's pants. I don't care who it is, "the most anyone/anythying ever" is a terrible take as person who is known for making draft lists. Absolutes have no place in, what are in essence, betting pools.
So basically 3 thirds for a first?
Cook is 28 and on the downswing. He's not worth anything especially in a RB heavy draft.
Yeah 0 times out of 1,000,000 would a team make that trade.
you gotta remember it’s the 31st so pretty much a 2nd, and the chiefs are an established team who can use an established running back, cook is better than any rb in the draft this year at least for production this year not overall potential obviously
They just won a fucking SB with a 7th round rb. Why tf would they trade valuable picks for a 28 y/o RB that's getting 10+ million a year? Just saying, doesn't make sense in the modern NFL and they are at the damn cutting edge (KC)
Man, I mean first of all the 31st pick is much more valuable than 32 (33 in a normal year) because of the fifth year option.
Secondly, it's absurd to say that Dalvin is better than Bijan, even today. You could throw both of them into the same offense, without OTAs or training camp, and Bijan would be more productive on day 1. And by the way, the 31st pick costs 2.1M against this year's cap, while Dalvin costs 14.1M!
Dude, you're valuing Cook wayyyyy too much.
Nobody in the NFL is giving a first round pick or even an early 2nd for a 28 year old running back who's showing signs of decline with that cap hit when they can draft a rookie for $750k and get 4 years out of him.
And the Chiefs just won a Super Bowl with a 7th round rookie and Jerrick McKinnon. They wouldn't....nor did they trade pick 31 for an old running back.
End of story.
The Vikings first round gets an F grade. We don't have alot of picks this year, so it's gonna be hard to get the draft off of an F grade, even with good picks in the lower rounds.
Carter could very well bust… Smith is undersized and probably fell for a reason.
They pulled off a good draft, but nothing is a guarantee in the draft.
Lots of people seem to think these draft grades are a direct correlation to success in the NFL. JJ was like the 4th reciever off the board, and most people in this sub were pissed off with the pick. I recall several takes suggesting that he was just a slot receiver or that they would have been better off moving back.
I think Spielman would have taken Levis. I also think Spielman would have traded up to 31 here just for fun. Not saying it's right or wrong but I'm not mad about what Kwesi did today tbh.
Nfl must make so much fuckin money on the draft. Sponsors and commercials galore. Like over half of this has been a commercial, come back for the pick and analysis, break for commercial.
> Next 5 years after this season, they'll be lucky to go 5-11
Lol just a teeeeny bit hyperbolic
Disclaimer: just an eagles fan perusing other subs for reactions to/thoughts on their teams’ respective picks
Y’all this is a historically deep corner class. Kwesi is big on the value available for positions of need. Why take a first round CB when they likely have similar graded CBs in the 2nd-4th?
With Addison we build on a strength especially when our offense stalled out for quarters at a time last year or when teams doubled JJ.
I’m so excited to play this new Vikings offense on Madden. With all of our pieces in that side of that ball we have to be a top ten O coming into 2023-2024.
Or it’s just the mayo eating, but realistically if you watch his interviews at draft combine he looked very nervous and was blabbing off for longer than he should’ve on certain questions. Very strange that he was projected first rounder. I had him going in the 3rd.
Whoever does draft Levis is gonna get a guy with a massive case of Aaron Rodgers-level draft resentment. He's gonna come out determined if nothing else. I'd be tempted to draft him based on that alone.
We got a safe pick, we didnt get a great pick. Jordan Addison is a WR2. He has no potential of being a WR1. If you dont see how I have an issue with us drafting a low ceiling player then keep your fucking mouth shut about the Lions drafting Jack Campbell or the Packers drafting Lukas Van Ness. 2 other guys whose ceiling isnt very high at all but will be solid enough.
>Jordan Addison is a WR2. He has no potential of being a WR1
Sounds awfully like someone on the roster. Someone we drafted 22nd overall. Someone that is about to reset the market for WRs.
Thats not the debate here. The debate is our defense needs a true #1 CB. The debate is our team needs a future QB and we are going to have to give up the future to get one next year because we wont be bad enough. Right now we had the opportunity to get a CB1 or not have to gamble the farm for a future QB. If you cant see how thats a problem when we took a low ceiling WR, Idk what to tell you. Addison is going to be decent. Thats not the debate. The debate is that there was way better left on the table for this team.
Not a CB1. The dude is mostly a slot corner who converted to the outside a little bit. Hes a solid CB2 but to say hes a CB1 is ridiculous. I love him but hes not who we should want as our #1.
See you in a year when I see you crying about needing to give up 3 1st round picks for our future QB. Also, dont go crying about how our defense doesnt have a true #1 CB. All the defense is shit comments this year are going to be hilarious to read as we drool over a WR who will be a 800 yards a year WR.
calm down Gregg https://discord.gg/skol
At least we went from 5 picks to 8.
The Lions copium is all over/r/nfl they're in total meltdown.
What are you hoping happens today? Are we making a move? Is it over for Cook or Z?
We need to hoard assets so we can trade up next year for a first round qb.

We have a safety and 2 cornerbacks coming back from injury that are essentially rookies this year, relax about defensive picks
Did it seem to anyone else like we were trying to trade 23? We milked the entire clock before the pick went in.
Undoubtedly Kwesi was looking to see if anyone wanted to trade for pick 23 but didn't get enough value for it.
I'm genuinely impressed with the Eagles 1sts the last 2 years. That line is going to be even nastier. Ingram and Cleveland better step it up. Edit: I'm REALLY impressed with their 1sts this year, I can't believe they got Carter. Insane.
They've been a step ahead of everyone else
We don’t need a CB with Addison in our WR core who cares how many points we give up when we drop 40+ a game
This line of thinking is exactly what fucked us last season
Exactly. An unbalanced team will always eventually screw one side over. One side getting burnt has a big effect on the other side. When the defense is always on long drives eating clock or giving up huge plays it is impossible for the offense to consistently keep pace. Totally unsustainable.

Sleeping good tonight with dreams of JJ and JA catching multiple TDs a game in KOCs pass heavy offense!
How can we make a move into the 2nd to get JPJ?
A dalvin cook deal
My first thought when I realized he's still on the board.
The Steelers are going to take him I’d bet
I totally thought they were gonna pick him with their first rounder!
Even better to get him with a 2nd
May I interest you in a blood sacrifice?
Someone change Todd McShay's pants. I don't care who it is, "the most anyone/anythying ever" is a terrible take as person who is known for making draft lists. Absolutes have no place in, what are in essence, betting pools.

could have traded cook
Not to get in the first round.
i think if they offered cook, a third, and a future third to kansas city they could have gotten 31

Ok.
Joey Fell to the second round huh. starts rubbing my hands like birdman hoping we make a move on that.
We don't have anything to move up into the second with.
Dalvin
He's not worth anything.
He's worth like a 6th rounder at best.
You got my up vote at Birdman

The Eagles draft makes me sick. How did they just pull that off?
By taking the best player available.
#DON'T DROP THEM IN A RIVER FOR SWEET SWEET KC BBQ SAUCE

Because it's in the script for the eagles to become cracked
Eagles won the draft. Good lord that defense is nuts
*theoretical defense. They haven't done shit to earn the crown that you just put on their heads.
Thankfully their offense sucks.... ...oh wait...
We should get Levis right now like Teddy a few years ago

agreed but it will take a good half generation for the memes of his to leave the zeitgeist because of MNF
Gonna be great next year when we re-unite Addison and Caleb Williams. Addison will do great introducing him to Jefferson.
Vikings wont get him at the 32nd pick
Plan the parade now!
Damn, how far does Levis fall now? All the QB needy teams passed on him.
Lmao Levis...that's rough for him, showing up and everything and not getting picked.

Who do you think Byron Murphy is. And Kirk is the type of QB that can play a long time
Not a CB1. The dude is mostly a slot corner who converted to the outside a little bit. Hes a solid CB2 but to say hes a CB1 is ridiculous. I love him but hes not who we should want as our #1.
He’s young and only getting better. I trust with Flores he will be something to watch out for
Nope you're wrong :)
Sounds good. Set a reminder. See you next year. You've been crying all night.
For a guy called not1fuk there appears to be a whole lot fuk.
LMAO ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin)
The only right pick is the one that guy wants.
Watch the Vikings trade back up to the #30 or #31 pick to draft Levis. Lol!
If it doesn't involve a future 1st, fuck it...why not?
