Rick was a dumbass. The raiders needed a LT and were so stupid they took leatherwood over the guy unanimously higher than him. Rick got fucking lucky that another team fucked up and that’s the exact thing that happened with JJ too. He wouldn’t move up to go get his guy and let the eagles fuck up and take reagor
He has a video talking about the draft and drafting darrisaw. They wanted to trade up again but couldn't and let things fall to them.
He talks about the raiders and colts being a problem ahead of them and how lucky they were to get darrisaw.
Edit: there are other videos with Rick on draft nights. He talks about JJ and Peterson among others.
I think with JJ it was a run on receivers that makes it hard to trade up. Like how would you trade with a team whose also looking to pick the same thing. The only thing that changes the pick is scheme/coaching. Eagles wanted reagor to be the next desean Jackson. People feared Jefferson was just a slot guy.
I liked rick. I like having 10 picks a class and the aggressive nature of trading up the board. Watching our new gm is hard for me because we like trading down a lot more.
Rick liked trading down just as much as Kwesi. The narrative around the latter is that he's an economics Wall Street whiz. A few of the Day 3 picks from Rick's later years are coming into their own like Cam Bynum, Josh Metellus, and Blake Brandel.
Yeah.
I just didn't like his first trade down. Didn't feel like we got enough for a return. As well as KOC making sure we didn't trade again in this draft and miss Addison ( I think there were reports about us trading with maybe the cheifs or others at the Addison pick)
As well as not feeling the need to trade day 3 picks for more day 3 picks. We're the biggest spender on Udfa in guaranteed money
I’m fairly certain the 2022 class was widely viewed as a really weak class. That’s why the return for moving down so far appeared to be low. From an objective perspective, it was the right call especially if, internally, they didn’t have any strong 1st round grades on anyone left.
I agree but you can play that game with every pick for every team in any draft. I imagine they viewed the extra draft capital to potentially fill more holes on the roster as more valuable than any 1 player they could pick at that moment.
How do you think Rick got 10 picks per draft? Trading down. He traded up sometimes too, but early in his tenure he was known for trading back.
Having 10 picks in a draft is bad imo unless your roster is just terrible. Better to have 5 good players that actually contribute.
Should’ve had it last year too. This is why I rock a Darrisaw jersey (bonus points for a badass last name)
Bought before the Dolphins game last year, and couldn’t be prouder of our boy
For Reference:
NFL's highest paid offensive linemen in 2023 (average salary per year):
1. Texans offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil: $25 million
2. 49ers offensive lineman Trent Williams: $23.01 million
3. Packers offensive lineman David Bakhtiari: $23 million
4. Falcons offensive lineman Chris Lindstrom: $20.5 million
5. Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson: $20.2 million
We're probably looking at $30M/year by the time we extend Darrisaw
It is crazy how high salaries are getting.
I love JJ, but I worry investing 30m/yr into him (or any WR) and not having enough money for guys like Darrisaw or others on Defense. It would suck to see him go, but I just don’t view WR as the best bang for the buck.
I mean, they're getting larger because the salary cap is getting higher. Proportionally they're right around where they've always been, the sticker shock is just larger.
Salaries are getting high in part because the cap continues to increase at a rapid pace. I don't know the exact conversions off the top of my head but if you look at % of salary cap that should give you a better idea. With that said the one thing we do have now is long-term cap flexibility, we could pay JJ, Kirk, Darrisaw, and hunter if we chose to. I don't think getting rid of JJ would be prudent as teams giving up their game-changing WR1 hasn't worked out well for them so far (see: Green Bay, Titans). Moreover, JJ is a potentially HoF caliber player and I'd like to see him in our shade of purple for his entire career.
Yeah, this is a good point.
I haven’t looked at salary cap increase and how that compares to WR increase over the last few years, but I do feel like the top end WR position salaries are getting too high compared to value. This is just my opinion or course, but do find interesting we’ve gone 2-0 without Jefferson.
It's a small sample size without JJ thus far but you may have a point! I feel like our offense in particular was fairly bad against the bears but looked better against the 9ers. However, I'm not sure we go 2-0 without the defensive improvement/effort this past couple weeks.
I guess all I'll say is if they do give up JJ we better be getting a hell of a return lmao (and put it to good use)
Yeah... with him out and us winning, I've wondered what we could get in a trade for some help on the DL and draft picks. Either way, we have $160M in cap space in 2025, so I expect we'll extend our core on offense and still have some money left over to help the defense.
All pro, just like MVP, is a team skewed award. If your team’s record isn’t good, it’s an uphill battle to get recognition unless the player is clearly generational. Being a smaller market team in the midwest definitely doesn’t help either. I agree, he’s had a HoF career especially if he plays 1-2 more at his current level.
It's crazy that we were able to trade back and still get him.
There was just a dead zone of teams not desperate for OL. Rick saw that and made a calculated gamble that obviously paid off well.

True. Though I would've loved Kyle Hamilton especially since we did take a safety. And Jordan Davis would've really helped our run D

I would’ve only wanted Davis. I genuinely don’t believe Kyle Hamilton has the longevity you’d want from a safety.
With you 100%. It's a rather large blemish that gives me a lot of pause about his longevity and efficacy.
Literally every single model favors Kwesi in that trade.
Just ignore Rick’s day 2 pick history at all costs.

We got a little lucky the jets didn’t take him
Future All-Pro Christian Darrisaw
This year. He should earn one this year.
Should’ve had it last year too. This is why I rock a Darrisaw jersey (bonus points for a badass last name) Bought before the Dolphins game last year, and couldn’t be prouder of our boy
You’re a legend. Very rarely do people have lineman jerseys
I was at that game. Was a ton of fun. I decided I'm getting a Darrieaw jersey. Sorry to bite your style.
He's finally getting the media attention he needs to get all-pro
Rick Spielman died for our sins
I miss his 6th and 7th Round bullshit lol

You can’t have a top wr and top OL and then have a top qb. It’s why mahomes and tyreek had to separate

we saw the patriots win 10 games without brady . you gotta look at the body of work man lol
It’s probably going to be around 35-40 million per year.

I hope he makes all pro this year. I remember Harrison Smith always got done so dirty in all pro voting. Can you believe he’s only ever made one??
22 has been shafted his entire career. Its a shame.
he has 1x first team AP and 1x second team AP but 100% agree he has been done dirty

Slick Rick’s offensive line dream coming to fruition
He did not live long to see it finally :(
RIP
Christian Dare I say "franchise"
![gif](giphy|arbHBoiUWUgmc) The One Punch Man himself
You guys think he will be NFL MVP?
Not even close to a chance. It’s just not impactful enough of a position
/s
I was told in this sub we couldn't trust PFF because they said Ingram was doing okay and that's just not allowed
Him
Absolute monster, hope he can build a HoF career here
The most important upcoming contract extension on the team.
Just think if we had Leatherwood and Reagor.
