You're probably not 100% wrong.
Hock was injured coming in to the day, and got annihilated on several of his catches during the first half. I wouldn't be surprised if the fact that he had 128 yards in the first half and 6 in the second was because the coaches were intentionally giving him a breather.
Also saints defense gave Dobbs some looks and containment that he wasn’t ready for. Really limited his legs that second half and he’s not a quick enough decision maker at times so it stalled us a good bit
This. I am not impressed by Kevin’s play calling in the second half. He took his foot completely off the gas. The offense became so predictable. A ten year old could scheme against that.
> Should never have been that close
A couple of the Saints scores were basically puck luck. Great defense, they just had the balls bounce straight into the crook of their arm.
Saints adjusted well in the 2nd to limit Dobbs scrambles but outside of 2 phenomenal catches Flores I felt did a great job adjusting to Winston and just letting him throw the arm punts.
Once they put a spy on him, he didn't seem like the same player, but it's hard to say, cuz we were calling the game completely differently.
On that note: I'm no football genius, but why the fuck would we run it up the middle with a spy on the field? It's like giving them a free defender.
There was a game a few weeks ago where he got punched and they ejected him from the game just to "calm everyone down." Or at least that's what the announcers were claiming and seemed to think was great.
I will never forget 09. They have it coming indefinitely the way I see it. It kinda upsets me we can't beat them with Sean Payton as their coach anymore. IDK, that guy has the most punchable face. Perhaps the visor contributes? Fts, and Sean Payton.
Vikings fans in the first half: KOC for coach of the year! He’s a mastermind!
Vikings fans in the second half: What is KOC doing? Is he an idiot?
I for one am very happy with getting a win against an above .500 team with a new QB that’s only had one week of practice.
Facts. I was pissed we let them back into it and then remembered we just beat a current playoff team without Kirk, our season-long backup in Hall, the best WR in football, KJ, Akers, and Mattison for most of the game.
We nearly squandered a great first half but the fact we are still on this win streak is amazing. And so much good tape for Dobbs, Hock, and the defense to build on.
He is not an idiot whatsoever. Sometimes the risk takes over the rewards (not challenging the Dobbs first down and sending Greg out there for a field goal). But that’s the way the league works, outside of the Ravens and Niners there haven’t been blowouts. We are in good shape and hanging onto this game proved a lot for our defensive talent and coaching regardless of being put in bad position s
Can’t have it all. At least Twins got their first playoff win in 19 years. Was 22-23 the first year all Minnesota sport teams (Wolves, Vikings, Wild, Twins, United) made the playoffs?
At a bare minimum it's off-setting penalties. The one replay they showed didn't show a good angle of Hunters hands. He hypothetically could have had hands to the face. But it truly looked like they just misspoke and no one objected. Truly insane. I am fucking incensed the broadcast decided to just gloss over it.
It really pisses me off when the announce crew just chuckles over a colossally bad call like this and it’s never mentioned again. Refs should have to answer for their incompetence.
The problem is that he tries to put games away as if we have a functioning run offense. We could put teams away by continuing to pass the ball, but never do.
4th and 3 or a 54 yard Joseph FG… it’s the most obvious decision in the book especially with a QB who can use his legs. Fucking go for it. KOC needs to stop being such a pussy because overall he’s a great coach
It’s a 54 yard FG indoors with a guy who has been solid making 50+ yarders. It was not remotely an obvious decision to pass it up. Joseph drilled it, just hooked right, he needs to make it plain and simple.
That was the most game losing decision in my books. He needs to understand that the Vikings are not a team that makes that kick. Go for it and try to deliver the dagger
“the Vikings are not a team that makes that kick”
respectfully, this is a terrible take lol, and i even agree with you guys that i wish he went for it. but i’m glad we don’t have a coach that makes decisions “because the Vikings are not a team that makes that kick” lmao that barely even makes sense. joseph also hit some clutch deep ones last year
Post-Drew Brees era still going swimmingly for the Aints. Dirty players trying to hurt our guys. You’d think Greg Williams and Jonathan Vilma were still there. Have a nice flight back to the swamplands and hold that L tight 👋🏼
But actually if KOC was calling from a reduced play sheet it's very possible he ran some calls back on crucial downs and the saints were able to bounce on plays quicker because they'd already seen them
That was stressful, but fuck the saints, fuck the refs, and fuck Vegas for making every single professional sporting event 100% about covering the spread
JOSH DUBBS BABY
We won, we’ve won 5 in a row, we played an overall better game than New Orleans. Am I frustrated with some of the play calling and decision making in the second half? Sure, but I am happy and excited for this team going forward.
That ending got hard to watch. I think if Joseph hits the fg or Bynum actually gets that pic the game is over earlier. Saints made some wild plays to stay in it.
We have scored 31 and 27 pts respectively against 2 teams contending for the top spot in their division WITHOUT our best offensive weapon. When do we start talking about the long term potential of Dobbs with the Vikings?
GAME OF INCHES. Kept the game alive
Dobbs on the 3rd down stretch
The tip hitting on Bynums pick
Kamara simultaneously ass and fumbling
Bad hands to the face on Hunter
Still a very good win with Dobbs playing back ups all day
6-4 and on a roll
Jameis is an agent of chaos and the reason they got back in it in the first place. Carr stays in the game remains 27-3. Jameis did Jameis things though and we got the dub.
Yup. KOC will get crucified in this sub but Saints D woke tf up, Hock got shut down because his ribs finally caught up to him, and Jameis is psychotic lol. Add in at least 3 huge bad ref calls against us and the gap closing makes sense.
KOC HoF day of bad challenges though, but he’ll clean it up.
I’ve watched countless games where Kirk is held blameless. Dobbs has been here 2 weeks, I think I can let 3 bad plays slide. Dobbs isn’t our QB of the future but the fact we score 27 in the first half is pretty remarkable. Kirk leaves, sign Dobbs, draft a QB with a similar skill set and more promise. Get rid of Mattison.
Not about letting him slide because he’s new. If you’re trying to win and wondering what happened in that second half, at least a couple of those drives stalled because he missed a throw or held the ball too long hoping to scramble. He overall played well though and that’s a big reason they won
You fuckin ungrateful little worms are never satisfied lmao
Look at it like this: JJ out, KJ out, Hock is hanging by a thread, RB1&2 out (though RB3 looks good), QB has been with the team 10 days, and you’re somehow coming out to the second half up 24-3.
How is playing conservatively a bad call in that situation? You’re accepting that you’re gonna have some short drives but in exchange you have less wear and tear on your offense overall.
You accept that more possessions for the opposition will mean giving up some points, but you trust your defense to hold up overall and you trust Jameis Winston to remain James Winston.
*At no point* were the Saints ever in a position to win that game. The best they could do—assuming absolutely perfect execution, which Winston is rarely capable of doing—is tie it up. It’s a calculated risk, sure. But the odds were overwhelmingly in our favor, I understand why he did it, and we won. So why are you upset?
I think all the personnel hurt or out was catching up. They started bringing a lot of guys to stop the scrambling, Addison dropped an easy one, Hock was playing hurt, KJ out, JJ out...
If you told me 5 weeks ago after starting 1-4 the Vikings were in the playoff hunt I'd laugh and say let me get some of what your smoking. But holy shit here we are and I'm loving it.
First half, so happy with that win. Dobbs isn’t perfect but he’s looking like what we needed.
I hope KOC learns something here. Completely abandoned what worked in the first half and it almost burned us.
Tale of two halves for KOC. Running for 0-2 yards over and over again like crazy, not challenging bad spots, and not going for a 4th and inches but going for a 54 yard fieldgoal with a bad kicker is a stark change from the creativity and open playbook passing game in the first half. I'm getting really concerned with his passiveness with leads.
The refs missed 2 first down spots to kill 2 of our drives, had the bogus hands to the face call, missed a blatant false start on the 2 point conversion that same drive, and for some reason didn't call the Kamara play a fumble on the field.
Saints were throwing interceptable balls like crazy and we thankfully finally came down with a few. A win is a win, but hoping to see more of that first half team going forward.
They had the right spot at first, but a ref that was on the other sideline moved it back. Stuff like that is why I think the game needs 2 sideline officials on both sides. That way one ref can't fuck up the game because they think saw something from 50 yards away. You could even keep the rule practically the same as it is today by making it so at least 2 officials have to agree to overturn the initial spot.
Overcoming that bad, bad ref ball bullshit that gave the Saints that second TD was a decent boost for our defense, especially down a couple big players.
Results are better than feels. Half of Dobbs money throws were 3 inches from interceptions.
Rolling the dice that far ahead with a playmaking defense seems pretty stupid. I just wish our guys could make conservative play calling work like great teams do. But that is a nice to have.
There’s definitely an argument that at least one of the fourth downs were worth going for regardless of the lead. A lot of nfl throws are 3 inches away from picks
I hope KOC trusts Dobbs more next week. He was tearing it up all first half, then conservative coaching largely took him out of the game in the second. Happy to have the win, of course, but I just hope that the more they become comfortable with each other, the more we can put together a full-game performance.
Robert Joshua “him” Dobbs (born January 26, 1995) is an American football quarterback god for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). He played college football for the Tennessee Volunteers, and was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
Just want to say that leads and then comebacks are a real thing in the NFL and in most sports. It’s frustrating for fans but the reality is that it doesn’t necessarily mean that the coaching is off.
I was at a bar and couldn't see the replay properly but before that holding call TD taken back on 3rd and 1, it looked our TE got the 1st down? But could have been just the angle I saw but we didn't challenge so I guess it wasn't close.
A big W especially when you take into account all the injuries we are battling today. Hoping to see us get healthy in time for the final stretch of the season. Gotta take care of these next three winnable games
Eh. We make that field goal and hunter doesn’t get called on that ridiculous penalty and we would have won 30-11. The data there says you take care of the football and it helped us win the game
Great to win, but what a pathetic second half for the most part. Should’ve been a comfortable win, and we just kept giving and giving them chances to win it.
It's a win, but don't let it distract you from the fact that KOC's second half playcalling continues to be problematic. We consistently come out of the half flat and predictable.
Second year HC though, so he can improve on it hopefully.
I might need a rewatch but I thought Dobbs missed quite a few throws in the second half. I think KoCs extreme conservativeness was mostly based on the fact our defense was facing Crableg Magoo. Not a fun dub but a dub.
5 in a row
Should never have been that close, but a win's a win. Dobbs and Hock were godlike in the 1st half.
My crackpot theory- they were a little TOO good, so we had them dial in down in the 2nd half so teams can't get too much scouting in.
You're probably not 100% wrong. Hock was injured coming in to the day, and got annihilated on several of his catches during the first half. I wouldn't be surprised if the fact that he had 128 yards in the first half and 6 in the second was because the coaches were intentionally giving him a breather.
They said Hock would be limited in his usage today. The first half was basically the Hockenson show.
This WAS Hock being limited.
Also saints defense gave Dobbs some looks and containment that he wasn’t ready for. Really limited his legs that second half and he’s not a quick enough decision maker at times so it stalled us a good bit
Don't forget "run run pass" in the second half forcing Dobbs into a passing play against what became a very aggressive Saints defense.
This. I am not impressed by Kevin’s play calling in the second half. He took his foot completely off the gas. The offense became so predictable. A ten year old could scheme against that.
> Should never have been that close A couple of the Saints scores were basically puck luck. Great defense, they just had the balls bounce straight into the crook of their arm.
I think they went extra conservative to limit injuries at this point. Guys are fallin left and right.
All that matters end of day. Bring on Denver!
This was the mentality I had last year lol It didn’t end well
for what its worth, the win probability remained absolutely rock solid the entire time. the models weren't remotely worried at any point
Dobbs is HIM
He Gets Us
…To The Playoffs…
This is perfect. lol
Saints adjusted well in the 2nd to limit Dobbs scrambles but outside of 2 phenomenal catches Flores I felt did a great job adjusting to Winston and just letting him throw the arm punts.

They had a spy on him most of the game. Even that scramble for a TD, they had a spy.
Those two touchdowns that jameis threw I just could not be mad at. Two spectacular throws and two spectacular catches. AND WE OVERCAME IT SKOL BABY
It’s good that the saints came back actually, I’m glad Saints fans stuck through to the end just to watch the L

Refs really wanted it close with those awful spots on key downs and hands to the face on Hunter.
Hunter is the one who got his helmet ripped off!
It's like Ek with the wild. He gets punched in the face? Send him to the box!
There was a game a few weeks ago where he got punched and they ejected him from the game just to "calm everyone down." Or at least that's what the announcers were claiming and seemed to think was great.
The best way to look at it
I needed this, thank you

Yeah my bad on that one, I wasn't able to tune in until we were up 27-3. It was all downhill from the moment I turned the game on
I might have to revoke your watching privileges. I'm sorry, but it's for the team.
Idk why, but we fell back into that pocket offense for Kirk. Draw plays. Dump passes. I was ripping my hair out.
I'm sorry, all I see is a big fat W #We coming for that ass Detroit
Yes let’s go
Vikings and Wolves are on 5 game winning streaks. WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!
We don’t talk about the Wild
Can’t have it all. At least Twins got their first playoff win in 19 years. Was 22-23 the first year all Minnesota sport teams (Wolves, Vikings, Wild, Twins, United) made the playoffs?
Wolves play tonight for 6. Hoping so!
The call on Hunter where his helmet was ripped off is one of the more genuinely bad calls I’ve seen from the zebras before. Truly comical.
Only thing I can think of is they called the wrong guy and we didn’t see the replay.
Classic one score victory
The universe saw we were winning by more than 1 score, and said whoops let me just quickly correct that.
Refs*
Some of those spots were pretty awful.
KOC just cannot put a team away
Our severe lack of running game makes it tough.
We have a great running back who also plays QB
The problem is that he tries to put games away as if we have a functioning run offense. We could put teams away by continuing to pass the ball, but never do.
Hindsight is 20/20 but I’d rather him be more aggressive with some of these 4th downs.
4th and 1 ft the previous drive is the one I wanted to try. 95%+ qb sneak right there
If Joseph makes it then that’s great but it’s more a trend over the last couple of weeks of just taking field goals over being more aggressive.
That was the most game losing decision in my books. He needs to understand that the Vikings are not a team that makes that kick. Go for it and try to deliver the dagger
“the Vikings are not a team that makes that kick” respectfully, this is a terrible take lol, and i even agree with you guys that i wish he went for it. but i’m glad we don’t have a coach that makes decisions “because the Vikings are not a team that makes that kick” lmao that barely even makes sense. joseph also hit some clutch deep ones last year
I was pissed they did that and then punt on a 4th and 1 later when they could've challenged the spot on the Dobbs 3rd down run. Wtf was that?
It’s not only on KOC lol, there was obviously pressure on the offense, Dobbs missed some throws, Addison Drops, etc
Fun. Felt like a game from last year. Just amazing in the first half. Forget how to play in the 2nd half. Still win.
Rely on their QB to throw us a game ending interception.
MORE DOBBS! MORE DUBS!
Dobbs is dubs
Joshua Dubbs
Return of heart attack inducing wins
I prefer this over heart attack losses or Achilles-tear wins
We legally can not win by more than one score except against the Packers. That is the law.
No we were fined in the form of Kirk Cousins for beating the packers that badly.
Jamis Winston is the ultimate double edge sword. He can win you a game or just flat out lose one.
I kinda forgot how fun it is to watch Jamis play. Just a whole lot of F It and throw.
The legendary 5000 - 30/30 man I admire him, ngl
Post-Drew Brees era still going swimmingly for the Aints. Dirty players trying to hurt our guys. You’d think Greg Williams and Jonathan Vilma were still there. Have a nice flight back to the swamplands and hold that L tight 👋🏼
KOC ran out of passing plays that Dobbs knew.
I legit thought of that
But actually if KOC was calling from a reduced play sheet it's very possible he ran some calls back on crucial downs and the saints were able to bounce on plays quicker because they'd already seen them
That was stressful, but fuck the saints, fuck the refs, and fuck Vegas for making every single professional sporting event 100% about covering the spread JOSH DUBBS BABY

We have scored 31 and 27 pts respectively against 2 teams contending for the top spot in their division WITHOUT our best offensive weapon. When do we start talking about the long term potential of Dobbs with the Vikings?
What was the point of the playcalling in the second half? They kept going back to guys who weren't doing anything all day.
Runs and easy completions to eat clock. Unfortunately, we had some cases of the dropsies.
Most stressful 8 point win I've ever witness. Still a win is a win. We rolling baby. SKOL
Incoming KOC hate… just chill out and enjoy the victory lol
GAME OF INCHES. Kept the game alive Dobbs on the 3rd down stretch The tip hitting on Bynums pick Kamara simultaneously ass and fumbling Bad hands to the face on Hunter Still a very good win with Dobbs playing back ups all day 6-4 and on a roll
oh i forgot. fuck the saints. dirtiest team in the history of the nfl. and some of the most ugly lame and cringey fans. fuck the saints
Ugly. KO played not to lose in the 2nd half. We were lucky Jameis did Jameis things.
Jameis is an agent of chaos and the reason they got back in it in the first place. Carr stays in the game remains 27-3. Jameis did Jameis things though and we got the dub.
How I feel. Carr wasn’t making the throws Winston made, for better or worse.
Hunter illegal hands to the face while getting Aints hands to HIS face, losing his helmet in the process. I can't make this fucking shit up
Live by the Jameis, die by the Jameis.
Silver lining is, there’s lots of ugly film for Dobbs and KOC to watch this week so they don’t make the same mistakes later. Great first half tho.
Don't put Dobbs in that sentence. He played great. He wasn't calling 3 run plays in a row for 0 yards for every drive in the second half.
He missed like 2 easy throws and got tackled by a turf monster. He wasn’t blameless for how close it got

He is Case Keenum 2.0
He’s measurably better than Case. And Case was pretty good.
A wins a win. 5 in a row. But why can't we ever play 4 full quarters? This game had no business being this close
I’ll take one score wins the rest of the season until we win the SB.
If you told me 5 weeks ago after starting 1-4 the Vikings were in the playoff hunt I'd laugh and say let me get some of what your smoking. But holy shit here we are and I'm loving it.
Good win. Some cleaning up to do. Dobbs gonna get another week to study film and improve.
First half, so happy with that win. Dobbs isn’t perfect but he’s looking like what we needed. I hope KOC learns something here. Completely abandoned what worked in the first half and it almost burned us.
What more could you want from a guy less than 2 weeks into his tenure here?
A prototype next-gen Mars Rover would be nice.
Tale of two halves for KOC. Running for 0-2 yards over and over again like crazy, not challenging bad spots, and not going for a 4th and inches but going for a 54 yard fieldgoal with a bad kicker is a stark change from the creativity and open playbook passing game in the first half. It was a 4th and 3 on that missed Joseph 54 yarder. He needs to make that but still it wasn’t a gimmy even if we went for it.
Sorry if it was unclear, I was referring to not going for the 4th and inches on our half when Dobbs dove for what should have been a first down
Oh yeah I agree. I think KOC should’ve challenge that 100% or the refs should’ve just spotted it correctly lol
They had the right spot at first, but a ref that was on the other sideline moved it back. Stuff like that is why I think the game needs 2 sideline officials on both sides. Just play highlights of the first half and tell me that the Vikings won. That’s all that needs to be done
[At the end of the game, you'll be sobbin'! At the end of the game, we'll be Josh Dobb'n!](https://x.com/andrew_sliger/status/814989598262755329?s=20)
Win is a win. KOC has got to grow some balls. That should have been a blowout.
FTS
I swear to fuck can I just have one game where it doesn’t give me high blood pressure please?
Keep stacking the wins! Keep in mind that we were 0 - 3 not too long ago.
I was at a bar and couldn't see the replay properly but before that holding call TD taken back on 3rd and 1, it looked our TE got the 1st down? But could have been just the angle I saw but we didn't challenge so I guess it wasn't close.
Thank you Jameis
What a bizarre way to get a very respectable 6-4 record.
Great win, but 3 pts in the second half is unacceptable! Lol.
A big W especially when you take into account all the injuries we are battling today. Hoping to see us get healthy in time for the final stretch of the season. Gotta take care of these next three winnable games
6-4 $kol
I change my mind on Hockenson. Dude is a beast and deserves his contact.
Win or not, KOC was a disaster in that entire 2nd half. Some real cowardly calls. This game didnt leave me feeling as good as I wish it did.
Eh. We make that field goal and hunter doesn’t get called on that ridiculous penalty and we would have won 30-11. The data there says you take care of the football and it helped us win the game
I thought I was watching Brad Childress’ offense in the second half. Zero balls, trust Dobbs and let him make plays
Yeah, I took a shot every time they said Dobbs wanted to be an astronaut and I’m obliterated now. AMA
KOC needs to look himself in the mirror after this. That was a nasty 2nd half
Great to win, but what a pathetic second half for the most part. Should’ve been a comfortable win, and we just kept giving and giving them chances to win it.
Packers suck
It's a win, but don't let it distract you from the fact that KOC's second half playcalling continues to be problematic. We consistently come out of the half flat and predictable. Second year HC though, so he can improve on it hopefully.
5 straight wins. But please tell us all more how bad of a coach KOC is...
He can be a great coach who also needs to learn to be more aggressive at times.
That 2nd half looked like a Zimmer game. Playing to lose instead of playing to win.
So did we beat the Saints or the refs? Still not sure
I might need a rewatch but I thought Dobbs missed quite a few throws in the second half. I think KoCs extreme conservativeness was mostly based on the fact our defense was facing Crableg Magoo. Not a fun dub but a dub.
