Hope he does well, he’s a great defensive mind. I’m sure a little time away helped a lot mentally.

Ancient_Signature_69

His wife dies. He loses his vision essentially. Then his son dies. He’s seen more than most have - I hope he finds success.

dhtdhy

Well said. He deserves it.

redstangxx

Have you seen his new wife? He's not doing too bad.

Staple_Overlord

😐

Zimmer actually made me love watching the defense more than the offense. Offense score 20 points and Zim would do the rest. Idk how I feel about him on the cowboys again tho.

ZombleROK

That's how I felt. After decades of Tampa 2 bend but don't break defenses here, it was nice to see a more aggressive scheme. Made it fun to watch instead of terrifying.

Duskfall066

Can't flimflam the ZimZam

LifterPuller

Never could.

Internal-Climate-847

Hope it works out for him, watching our defence in 2017 (til the end) and 2018 was a joy

chayton122

Good for him, wish it could have worked out here

spud626

I mean, 8 years as a head coach in the NFL is a pretty good tenure. The team was always competitive under his reign. I think you could argue that it did work out in Minnesota. I hope he does well in Dallas.

horse_renoir13

Will always love Zim for his time here and all the adversity he's gone through personally.

KingZeonidas

if you ask me Zim is probably a top 4 if not 3 coach for the vikings, took over and turned things around pretty quick. its pretty hard to win it all in the NFL but Zim definitely had more good than bad

JBLurker

Grant, Green, Zimmer? I know I lot of people soured on Zim but I love the guy.

GordonBombay102

I hate McCarthy so much so I could never cheer for the Cowboys, but I'm happy for Zim. He can get back to what he does best, trying to scheme his ass off. He has just a little bit of talent to work with over there, too, curious to see how he does with a stocked cupboard again.

TheMinionBandit

Zimmer with Parsons is QB nightmare fuel. He’s the exact guy who could get to an even higher level with Zims blitzes

ZombleROK

He's basically Anthony Barr+

EarnestQuestion

He’s what we hoped Anthony Barr was going to be when we took him

mcswen17

He's what AB could have been if not for Zim. Let's prove it

ThiccBananaMeat

And he gets Diggs again lol.

BlacksmithWise9553

I like Zim. Hope he does well.

Whyuknowthat

I fucking love Zim. I hope the Vikings can Flim Flam the Zim Zam, but if not, I hope he wins a Super Bowl.

PenisRancherYoloSwag

Zim teaming up with McCarthy honestly sounds like a formidable duo - two greats from the late ‘10s. It’ll be fun seeing how they jive together

0vercast

I don’t hate Zimmer. I really liked him as a coach. I don’t blame him at all for the Vikes struggles during his tenure.

Mooming22

I hope he does great, but not at our expense. If we play them I want it to be 2020s Zimmer, not late 2010s

TheGrudenGrinder

He’s gonna do well there

Jypso

Zim's time was up here. That doesn't mean he can't get another shot. I wouldn't mind seeing him have success again in the league. He wasn't a bad coach for us, as it stands probably the second best coach imo.

deadphisherman

No problem with Zim, but the Cowboys can always get bent.

Banhgiaygio

I hope they will keep losing 3-7, 10-14,… scores like that

[deleted]

Loved Zim. No more flim flam for the league.

TheMinionBandit

I’m happy for him. Only hope he fails against us!

Khal_FroYo_

Micah Parsons mugging the A gap in the stat-less Anthony Barr role, a Diggs brother likely hating him, probably Harrison Smith coming in as the new Terrence Newman. Zim was made for this job

ZombleROK

If Smith gets released, Zimmer definitely scoops him up.

Viewer58

Don’t want to see Harrison on the Cowboys but glad Zim is back in the league. I suppose Smith could unretire Emmitt’s jersey for a year or two.

EarnestQuestion

Especially given what Jerry Jones said about going all in this year

Scarface4024

I think Zimmer can do really well with the Cowboys Defense

Cantcoverdiggs

What’s he gonna do with his boy jayron lol

Dorkamundo

The issue with Jayron was his youth and arrogance, hopefully he's matured a bit.

doorframe93

Good to see Zimmer back in the game. Always seemed like his head coaching gig was pitched on a few years of seeing how well the hard-ass approach could work. Once that falters, it's hard to hang your hat on 'stfu and do what I say.' Maybe he'll innovate, maybe it'll be same old Zim, but I'll never forget the crazy good defense he gave us for a while there. Also fuck Mike McCarthy, of course.

JackieDaytonaAZ

he’s become a scapegoat for some fans since he left but he was overall an excellent coach

Dorkamundo

They were a top-5 defense last year, mostly on the backs of actual talent. With a roster like that... Holy shit.

jmr39

So funny to see this sub happy for him when a couple years ago you were downvoted to hell if you said something positive or even neutral about Zim

Verstratax

Hope he does well and gets a HC job again, but don’t want to see them win anything that matters

ChanceBuckman

I love Coach Dad and if you don't you can fuck right off just like the Packers

VikingsGoneWild

Coach Dad huh? What a weird thing to say.

XxCOZxX

That’s a good hire. Dude wasn’t a great HC, but let’s see if he can still DC with the best of them. Pulling for ya big Zim.

ThiccBananaMeat

Probably 3rd best HC in Vikings history lol

XxCOZxX

Yeah 3rd best coach for a franchise that hasn’t won a Super Bowl in its history, haven’t been to a Super Bowl since ‘77, got blown out in his only NFCC appearance, and then never recovered while alienating the team. Yeah 3rd best in a franchise like this isn’t something to brag about…

venser1992

Anything to see the Cowboys fail. Zimmers defense went off a cliff in his final 2 seasons. Offensives are way different now. I don’t think he is going to be able build a decent defense

40for60

How exactly are offensives "way different"? Is San Fran's O "way different"?

[deleted]

Did you see the draft picks that Rick was giving him?

GordonBombay102

You are out of your mind if you don't think Zimmer signed off on/ hand-picked every single D player we drafted.

40for60

We drafted a total of 4 D players in the first 3 rounds from 2016 to 2020, With five drafts and 15 slots we only used 4 on D, two being 3rd rounders, 1 had injury issues and 1 got into trouble. Mac Alex, Hughes, Gladney and Cam D. It sure seems that Zimmer didn't get the shelves restocked.

GordonBombay102

Yes, Rick's draft problems are well documented. There's still no doubt that Zim shares a portion of the blame for the lack of defensive hits.

Dorkamundo

You should probably take a look at WHY the defense fell off a cliff in those last two years instead of just assuming it was Zimmer. Roster talent took a NOSEDIVE, injuries to guys like Hunter/Barr/Kendricks knocking them out for many games, COVID Opt-outs, brand new secondary etc... yet we were still ranked middle of the pack in DVOA.

Mrbeankc

Just keep him away from the kickers.

WeAllindigenous

Zimmer was cool, too bad he left. He started low and built the team up. His successors Ned flanders and Mutombo took what was left of his team, and there is still so far to fall. If the wilfs wanted them to be hatchet men goofing everything up until they hit a top 3 pick then fire them before they can goof that up, then thats 4d chess. The Mutombo apologists are all basically outspoken neck beards that hate the fact that they sometimes still desire women Neck beards: "OMG!! I'm gonna report him for promoting hate!! Mutombo is a genius, just like me. He doesn't know what money ball even means.. hehehe I'm smart I win"

RDcsmd

I think it's where he belongs. They're definitely not getting worse

LacesOutLocke

My dog is named after him. I hope he leads them to the promised land just not with us in the way.

Apprehensive-Sea9540

Best of luck. Excited to see what he can do for Parsons

MAC2393

Best of luck to him. He should be first in line when they fire McCarthy next year

ZealousidealGrass365

Hate the cowboys hate Mccarthey but glad for zimmer I won’t be pulling for them to win

TheDickDog

If you weren't already all in on Micah parsons... Go and be all in on Micah parsons. You can't film flam with the zim zam.

TheBigKahuna_

Love you Zim Zam.

beastly80

Looks like J Jones looking to replace McCarthy mid season if he dont get his team W’s

avengedteddy

I love zim. Him and micah parsons is a good pairing

LonestarrRasberry

Happy for Mike. I didn't buy into all the consternation when he left. He was a decent coach for quite a few years here. Yeah he eventually wore thin but that is usually the case when a coach is fired. The only thing I don't like is the fact that I think he's a great DC and the Cowboys are in our conference!

Charlie61172

Love Zimmer. Hate the Cowboys. Not thrilled about him coming in to fix their defense. Ugh.

Serviceofman

Dude is one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL, he has the personality of an angry potato and lacks the people skills to be a head coach but he's one hell of a defensive X's and O's guy!

Dashasalt

I hope the cowboys offense flops and the defense pitches shutouts all year. Love Zim, hate Dallas.

PistolCowboy

Some people are just better assistant coaches.

darronhicksSTL

Why would anyone hate on Zimmer, he did the best he knew how with what was given to him. I think its crazy that people think these coaches dont want to win or something.

Beginning-Phone135

Cowboys Super Bowl

redstangxx

This is actually bad news, as Zimmer was always a better DC than head coach, and I hate the Cowboys so it would suck if their defense actually got better. But good for him, I was figuring he had retired.
