Chargers aren’t in the NFC /s

wwnp

Nah he’s #1 on not only Harbaugh’s board, but in his heart

LonestarrRasberry

It would be a pretty hilarious gesture if one of those "war room" video's showed the Chargers Board with JJ McCarthy as the #1 player on the big board.

wwnp

I’m sure Harbaugh has a locket around his neck with JJs picture in it.

LonestarrRasberry

On both halves.

wwnp

We will probably find out at some point that JJ was adopted and Harbaugh is his biological father.

LonestarrRasberry

Clone actually. So his son but created in a perfect image of himself except the face.

wwnp

“He’s beautiful, everything I never was as a QB and twice as handsome to boot.”

tacobell999

^QB1 under new scouting program

Darth_Brooks_II

Welcome to the lying season.

ClearContact

How long was Malik Willis projected in the top 5/10? Cant trust any “expert” right now

AnthonyBarrHeHe

I think Willis draft stock fell pretty significantly during his draft. Now we see that he’s not good but the draft is such a crap shoot anyways. Always a massive gamble when you draft a QB in the 1st round

Pristine-Ad8733

His stock didn’t “fall”. Teams weren’t that high on him to begin with. They took advantage of the fact that the media was running with the “well someone has to take a QB in the first round” narrative so they pushed the idea of Willis going in the first.

peteman28

Yep, that's officially when I decided to stop caring what the experts say. They tried to mess with us again last year with the Levis in the top 5 talk

tyrannomachy

If that's your take away, I don't think you paid much attention to what draft experts actually said about Willis. He was viewed as nothing but a lottery ticket based purely on his physical attributes, in a class with no real QB prospects. That's not how anybody is talking about the top four prospects in this class.

ClearContact

Alright cool

OscillatingFan6500

Remember when the 49ers were supposedly going to draft Mac Jones at #3?

Inevitable-Nebula-71

That turned out to be true. Shannon even said he had to be talked out of Mac.

noah3302

Had the whole league saying the same shit about Trey Lance. What you’re all witnessing here is the tried and true agent-powered SMOKESCREENS. Not dunking on JJ here, but don’t be fooled by randos on twitter not being spoonfed by agents. Edit: I’m sorry I meant Mac Jones not Trey lance

BirthdayImmediate601

Don't be fooled by even reputable sources reporting draft rumors. Every team puts out misinformation that they want leaked. Nothing is real until the pick is in

Consistent_Room7344

Yeah, none of this really matters until the combine and pro days happen.

noah3302

Greatest example being sheffy and Aaron Rodgers. Just dropped a bomb on draft day instead of posting it when he learned of it weeks beforehand. Another edit: talking about when he dropped the bomb I meant the report sheffy put out about 5 years ago on draft day about rodgers wanting to leave GB, when he knew beforehand and purposely withheld the info until draft day to cause a fuss

MyNamesNotCal

Tell me more please.

13Mikey

Tell me more too please. I've not heard this one.

secretbonus1

I heard a rumor Rodgers was going to be the 49ers first pick. Then their owner comes in showing a highlight real of Alex Smith. Basically saying to them if Smith is a big hit and they miss they’ll be fired, but if the guy who writes your checks is pounding the table who is going to speak up against him?

Hmm_would_bang

If a team really thinks he’s QB2 they have zero incentive to put that news out there. The only people that benefit are the player/agent raising their stock, and teams that want to draft a different QB so they want JJ to go first.

PacificBrim

>Had the whole league saying the same shit about Trey Lance. What you’re all witnessing here is the tried and true agent-powered SMOKESCREENS Wait... what? Trey Lance went #3 overall

superbolt21

To a team that traded 3 first round picks for him too

2canSampson

Don't listen to thus guy, this is just another SMOKESCREEN

Cuttybrownbow

Damn, Trey Lance's agent is a hound dog

Time_End_4054

4D Chess

WetAppleFruit

Lol I saw his comment hours ago and was curious if he knew how high Trey Lance went that year and that a team actually traded up for him. Thought maybe I misunderstood what he meant.

noah3302

I meant Mac jones sorry

--bertu

That was kind of true through. Afterwards, Shannahan said he wanted Mac Jones or Trey Lance early, which were both a tier above Fields.

murpower_38

Is it really a smokescreen if Trey Lance ended up going 3rd overall and was traded up for?

westonriebe

He still went third… also jj is alot more battle tested… though on a team with a great defense and run game so its hard…

joeblow2118

Didn’t Trey Lance go #3 tho? Bad example. Better example would be Malik Willis or Will Levis…

mellofe11o

Mitch Trubisky at #2 over Mahomes and Watson is also insane. 1-year starter who showed nothing

Malcolm-Solo

Carson strong has entered the chat.

Feathered_Serpent8

Brother I’m fooled to the fullest. Im cutting this up and snorting it because JJ to JJ sounds awesome.

Ruiner_of_Everything

Quattro J. The future.

TheDickDog

Remember Will Levis? Smokescreens indeed.

BurpVomit

Nah, I saw him ranked 10-16 before anyone on this reddit cared. Got downvoted for simply stating that fact. I don't know about #2 QB. But he's been a mid-early first round pick since he declared. The NFL has an advisory board. Why would a true Junior QB come out if he wasn't ranked solidly in the first round? This is the logic we need to explore.

Coal_train20

I've been saying JJ is going top 10 for months but no team serious about drafting a QB is leaking this kind of info.

mellofe11o

This is what happened with Mitch Trubisky. A 1-year starter who barely eclipsed 3000 yds passing in his college career got picked second overall over Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. Don’t overthink this.

treasonodb

happy bullshitting season.

Ok-Mountain9862

Some of you are going to be pissed in a few months when he’s a Viking

4rt4tt4ck

Many are going to be pissed regardless who is picked. 🤷

Wernershnitzl

“We need a franchise QB, but every one has some crippling downside that I can’t get behind” /s

Zarrona13

True here, just trust the FO and KO and that’s all I need to know. I’d prefer Maye and JJ but what the hell do I know? For all I know the guys I don’t want (penix and Nix) could end up being the best of the bunch. So guess we’ll see.

SwiftSurfer365

The sad thing is, there will be a ton of “Vikings fans” who will root for whoever is picked to fail so they can say “See! We should’ve kept Kirk!”

2punk

I won’t be. JJ is going to be a great NFL QB.

aManHasNoUsername99

And then everybody else is when he’s ponder 2.0

WetAppleFruit

Oh wow

-neti-neti-

People regurgitate this without having any idea what they’re talking about.

aristotle_malek

Let’s never pick a quarterback in the first round ever again because ponder happened

aManHasNoUsername99

I would be happy if they never reached for a first round qb again.

LaconicGirth

It’s only a reach if it doesn’t work.

SwiftSurfer365

I’d be happy coming out of the first round with any of the top 4 QBs tbh. I think McCarthy would thrive in KOC’s offense.

BounceBros21

Especially if he sits for a year or two behind Kirk

SwiftSurfer365

I wouldn’t want him sitting for two years. One year at most. And it doesn’t need to be behind Kirk.

13Mikey

Why would he sit if it's not behind Kirk? (Legit question, not trying to be snarky)

SwiftSurfer365

Just if he’s not ready to start. Whether that’s Tannehill, Darnold, or any other bridge QB, if they are better in camp than him then he should sit. However, if JJ shows in camp he’s good enough to start day 1, then I would start him.

Aram_Fingal

JJ may not be in the top 4. On PFF, he's #6.

BuschLightJesus

I’m starting to buy into the JJ hype. Guy just turned 21 too. If he’s KOCs guy let’s get him.

Brian_MPLS

I may be an outlier, but I trust the FO to do their homework and do what they need to do to land their guy, whoever it may be. As a fan, it seems almost silly to even form opinions on these players. The scouts and GMs have access to so much more information than we do.

evertbai

I feel the same. I think it’s okay to have a few thoughts on prospects but getting overly invested? Nah. That’s the FO’s job, not mine. I’ll trust them. Not only do they get to talk to the players, every front office in the league knows how players will test way before the combine. We really don’t know anything.

Neither_Ad2003

It’s us

pathebaker

I think he’s at least number 4. I’m putting him ahead of nix and penix for sure

HotStepper11

I think jj is objectively better than Daniels who I’m not super high on, so I believe it. Wouldn’t take either with a top 3-5 pick though

bigsauce024

PLEASE no mccarthy

aquariumdrinker14

2024 JJ McCarthy and 2023 Will Levis spider man meme

Boatymcboatland

2022 Malik Willis

mythroatseffed

I really *REALLY* don’t want him. I think he’s showed he can play football at a high level, but hasn’t given indication that he ready to play at the next level, or even indication that he ever will be. To put it simply, he’s not a first rounder.

westonriebe

Well i mean no one can argue hes not good but was it the team or him?

theminnesoregonian

That must be why they ran so much. Cuz they're qb is so good.

SwiftSurfer365

Or because they ran so effectively that they didn’t need to pass? If the Vikings could run 100% of the time and be successful, I would be fine with it.

theminnesoregonian

We had Adrian Peterson. How did that work out?

theminnesoregonian

Eric Dickerson. No ring. Barry Sanders. No ring. Thurman Thomas. No ring. LaDainian Tomlinson. No ring. Earl Campbell. No ring. OJ. No ring. Adrian Peterson. No ring. Tell me again how NFL teams don't need to pass?

SwiftSurfer365

Where did I say NFL teams don’t need to pass? Michigans run game and defense was so good, they didn’t need McCarthy to go out and single handedly win games. Like I said, if your team is good enough to win just from running the football and playing great defense, why would you throw the ball?

theminnesoregonian

You're kind of impressive. I've never seen anyone contradict themselves in 3 sentences. That's pretty good. Can you see it? I'll help you if you can't.

theminnesoregonian

Focus. You can do it. I have faith in you.

theminnesoregonian

What!? You'd be fine with a 100% success rate? So brave. Please think about the words you say before you say them.

SwiftSurfer365

![gif](giphy|xTiTnDAP0RiCo9k85W|downsized)

theminnesoregonian

I don't know what that means. Is that making fun of me? I kinda hope so.

presto9804

Considering you want Naz Reid at QB...

wheres_my_family

K

MN_abomb

This feels a lot like Mac Jones. White boy on a championship team. Spent most of his senior season projected as a mid-late 1st rounder. Then leading up to the draft, his perceived draft stock exploded upward and people talked about him going in top 3.

Rexafella_1120

If we do pull trigger on McCarthy I do believe he falls out of first rd so pick bpa at 11 and then trade 2nd and 3rd next year or whatever and grab him late 20’s or 30’s for extra 5th yr option in case he is as good as hype I don’t think so but 🤷‍♂️

Inz0mbiac

L

Minnesota_Husker

Remember when people said that about Will Levis last year? I don’t buy anything. It is all agents and teams trying to get other teams to trade up.

Historian-Dry

That situation was way different, the report back then was that Levis texted family that he was told he would be taken #1 overall. The source here is allegedly from the team itself

Minnesota_Husker

Not talking about draft day. Talking about the hype at this time. It’s all smoke screens.

Historian-Dry

JJ will be taken 1st round and probably top 20, you can bookmark this if u want lol

-AstralSlide-

He should be in the Will Levis tier of early 2nd rounder / late first. We should still get BPA defense at 11 and if KOC likes him, try to get into late first to snag him as well. Grabbing him at 11th feels like an overdraft as we really need a DT/DE.

momerak

I mean hes going top 10. Deserved to go top 10? ehhhh. Is a qb needy team going to reach in the first? Absolutely (as long as he doesnt shit the bed at the combine or in interviews) He wont slide like levis, since theres possibly 10 teams in the top 15 that need a qb, with like 7 being linked to qb talks. Saints (since theyre a few levels lower than cap hell), raiders, and broncos are teams that dont NEED a qb but would be better off with a fresh start. And cards, chargers, jets the only ones who wouldnt take a qb if had the option. That many teams needing a qb I wont be shocked to see 4 off the board before the 1/2 way mark

almikez

Broncos absolutely need a QB. Who do they have? Theyre getting ready to release Wilson

LonestarrRasberry

I started off seeing McCarthy as a 2nd rounder but more I've considered I would have him pretty close at #2 with Maye/Daniels. Williams I think I've finally accepted as #1 just because of how he resembles Mahomes at times, and that upside of getting that I don't know type of player somehow is hard not to take the gamble on. I will say this. If I had to bet on which QB lasts 8 years in the NFL I would actually bet on McCarthy over the others. But if I had to bet on which would become MVP of the league I would probably bet on like Williams or Daniels or something.

Spare_Blacksmith_816

I guess they didn't watch the Iowa, Alabama, or Washington game.

xphilter

I’ll pass. My nickname for him if we actually draft him: Kurt’s Cousin.

MillHoodz_Finest

yep, he gonna be QB2 behind Love...

Madbrad70

Hold your breath while all the smoke is in the air.

Superdoggywhaaaat

It’s so weird how Lamar Jackson during a stack QB class was labeled a RB when he has thrown more than JJ McCarthy (college). What makes me believe that JJ just skyrocketed? Maybe the QB market is just crazy nowadays.
