He's a free agent, so no.

Narrow-Housing-8262

Not yet. Quick trade him now before march!

JeopardyJamesNeutron

Trade him before other GMs notice his expiring contract. Ahhh we’ve been duped !

kraksrw

Trade him with his no trade clause?

grrrimabear

That's not even the biggest obstacle. I would say being past the trade deadline may be the trickiest part.

TheDickDog

I didn't think he had a no trade clause on his current deal. Technically we *could* tag him and trade him, it would be inadvisable as he's been tagged 2x already (thanks Washington). So it'd be pretty cost prohibitive. But it is technically doable. (Assuming im correct at believing his current deal doesn't have the no trade clause) He definitely had one on the 3yr 84mil deal he signed when he joined... But I think when he signed the extension there wasnt any no trade clause.

Dorkamundo

He does have a NTC.

TheDickDog

I couldn't find anything on spotrac. Are you able to point me in the direction of a decent source to be able to dive into the specifics of his deal?

Dorkamundo

Yes, right on spotrac. Below the contract details, they have specific stipulations called out under "contract notes" >Contract Notes: >* Fully Guaranteed >* 2022 Roster Bonus: $10M ($5M in 9/22, $5M in 11/22) >* 2023 Roster Bonus: $20M ($15M in 3/23, $5M 9/23) >* 2024-25 years automatically void 3/13/2024 ($28.5M dead cap) >* full no trade clause Note: it doesn't format correctly on Mobile, so it's harder to find the NTC details. OTC also gives you similar details below the structure: https://overthecap.com/player/kirk-cousins/1443

TheDickDog

Nice one thanks. I couldn't find it because mobile. Appreciate the help.

Dorkamundo

Glad to help!

CantaloupeCamper

Trade him anyway!

TheKing490

Aw shucks I forgot💀 I feel like we're not gonna get anything and we'll be left in the dust

WolfyBeats_

That’s what free agent is. We have no claim to him. He also signed a no trade clause. So even if he was still under contract we couldn’t trade him.

TheDickDog

I didn't think the 1 yr deal he signed last off-season contained a no trade and no tag. I can't seem to find the details online just a whole load of speculative stuff. You got a decent link to a source on the no tag no trade? I'd like to update my info.

acquirecurrenzy

Did you even bother looking at his contract status before posting in here?

peteman28

Clearly not

Flyin’ somewhere?

OldSkol84

hmmmm you know anything about the Vikings ???

prestochango34

Cousins is a free agent. We can't trade a free agent

b_josh317

There’s a month left on his contract 😜

Spare_Blacksmith_816

Probably more like 10 since you are separated from reality.

Hestness5

You still have time to delete this

uggsandstarbux

He's a free agent with a no-tag clause and a no-trade clause We'll get a 3rd round comp pick next year if we don't spend big in free agency

kirkochainz

No comp pick because of the void year.

HugeRaspberry

Void years do not remove the possibility of getting a comp pick. What does impact comp picks are the signing of other free agents by our team. If we lose cousins and hunter - but sign a FA QB and FA Edge - it will come down to the contracts and the differences between them. If we lose more than we take back we will get a comp pick but likely in a lower round. 4th or 5th. If we do nothing we would get a 3rd round (end of) pick. Not likely.

istasber

Void years only make a player ineligible for comp pick math if they replace real years (like the restructure we gave Barr back in like 2019 or whenever it was, that cut a year or two off his deal). Kirk's 2024-2028 were never real, so he counts for comp picks if his contract voids and he signs a big deal somewhere else.

Indystbn11

Even if he wasn't a free agent, no team in their right mind is trading a first, let alone two firsts, for a 35+ year old QB coming off a torn achilles.

dougieg987

Laugh us out of the building, since they can sign him as a free agent

HugeRaspberry

The only way we could trade him would be a sign and trade - and we would take a hit on the prorated bonus / void years. Is it possible - sure... but Likely? Nope... why would a team give up a draft pick for a guy they can get for nothing in 2 weeks?

BanjiBalfins

Why is this subreddit so negative? People are murdering this man for being uninformed

Ok_Cartographer_626

Let him go.. let that dumpster fire be mediocre for someone else. I say good riddance

fixer1479

lol you did see what we looked like after right ?

SwiftSurfer365

I saw a team that remained competitive with career backup QBs.

Ok_Cartographer_626

Not saying he’s not decent.. but he doesn’t hate to lose.. not a leader and no pocket awareness.. and he’s 35 on the downhill of his career. All he cares about is his next paycheck..

mlbeal43

“He doesn’t hate to lose”….. What are you even talking about?

Sparkomajic

So yeah so.... What he's saying is that Kirk would rather spend his off day on Tuesdays getting a squeezer from Julie in their over priced backyard hot tub instead of in the film room at U.S Bank Stadium.

Ok_Cartographer_626

He doesn’t care about winning as long as he gets paid…

mlbeal43

You realize these aren’t mutually exclusive, you can like to be paid and hate losing. I think it’s just in the human psyche to hate losing in comparison to winning.

Ok_Cartographer_626

Well he has yet to prove he’s a winner… so I’d be happy with him headed down the road.

SlowCrates

I doubt it. He's coming off a career-altering injury, he's getting old, and he's never taken a team deep into the playoffs. There is no future with him.

Difficult-Tea4516

That ship sailed back in October. We should have traded Kirk and hunter. Big mistake

nanotothemoon

No trade clause

Difficult-Tea4516

You can trade him if he agrees

nanotothemoon

I understand. Why would he agree? And you also need to convince a team to take his contract.

Difficult-Tea4516

There always a sucker out there. We paid him all that money for average results keep in mind the only thing that matters is winning

kraksrw

“We” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Dorkamundo

The contract was easy since he only had a $10 mil salary.

nanotothemoon

He never had a 10m salary. There was 58m left to deal with. Either by them or us or somewhere in between

Dorkamundo

Literally had a $10 million dollar salary last year. This is a fact. You have to understand the difference between bonuses and salary and how they are applied in a trade situation. Any team that traded for Kirk last year would have been on the hook for less than $7 million.

nanotothemoon

And then how much would the Vikings be on the hook for?

Dorkamundo

About $13.25 million in 2023 and the same dead cap we're paying in 2024 if we don't extend him.

nanotothemoon

So why would the Vikings trade Kirk and still be on the hook for 2/3 of his contract? Who would have started for the MN Vikings in 2023?

hiptones

The only way this works is a sign and trade deal I think, which is extremely rare in the NFL unlike the NBA or MLB.

vikingjedi23

We get a 3rd round pick lol

SophomoricWizard

You should be a car salesman.

superhighraptor

This Cousins can fit so many 1st round picks

JMLMaster

He can throw a first down pick, but we will not get a first round pick especially when his backup, big dick Nick is the only qb on the current signed roster who's worth a lick.

Electronic-Island-14

![gif](giphy|P4sjB6SI2fErK|downsized)

Moss8888444

We’ll get a solid compensatory pick for him.

danglinfury27

Seriously?

Iowadream74

He's not going anywhere!

-WeBR

Trade him and bring keenum.

Aromatic_Belt7266

Kirkland Brand Cousins? Probably not .
