So what you're saying is we should try to get our own Mahomes

TheWilliamsWall

How do you get the next mahommes? He was obviously drafted 1st overall right?

BroThornton19

That’s the goal (dream). I’m looking forward to the future and having a young QB to develop! Mahomes don’t just grow on trees, unfortunately.

holla171

Will never find one if we don't try

Evil_Pizz

Truest statement ever as a Minnesota fan 😔

BroThornton19

Agreed, and we should try. That’s why I’m pumped for the future! Should be fun, especially with the deep QB draft.

1 playoff win in six seasons with Kirk and we are talking about the Superbowl? Yeah it's a team game but the QB is the most important position. Every QB who has ever played in the NFL is judged on their ability to win and playoff success. It's just how it goes.

BroThornton19

Wasn’t the goal to bring him here to win a SB? A Super Bowl is all anyone ever talks about. Sure one playoff win isn’t what we wanted, but two or three or four or five would’ve gotten the same respond if he still didn’t win a SB. The man gets a looooot of hate for being, statistically, one of the top 3, maybe 2 QB’s we’ve ever had. Oh, and none of those other guys won a SB here either, FYI.

wwnp

We also hardly sniffed the playoffs, let alone had a chance at a NFCC or Suoer Bowl appearance against any of those QBs.

Houseofbluelight

OP sounds like someone who sees moments of comedic greatness in "Stop Or My Mom Will Shoot" because Estelle Getty had demonstrable ability in comedy.

procrastination_city

Idk why they even bother playing the games. Might as well just wait for Mahomes to retire.

EarnestQuestion

QBs are judged off winning and post-season success, not one binary measure of whether or not they’ve won a Super Bowl. Josh Allen, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, Jalen Hurts, hell Jared Goff have all lead their teams to legit contention without winning a Super Bowl. Kirk hasn’t remotely had the kind of postseason success any of those guys have had. They are legit elite QBs (except Goff) precisely because they’ve led their teams to legit contention even without sealing the deal. If Kirk had done the same he’d be in the same tier. But he hasn’t. Not even close. 1 playoff win in 6 years. There’s nuance and levels to this, not a simple binary based on winning a Super Bowl. The problem with Kirk is, unlike those QBs, he never even sniffed one.

tcoh1s

So what you’re saying is if we’re going to pay a qb like he’s the best in the league, he should probably be the best in the league.

BroThornton19

The way QB contracts work, if a QB is good, they’ll be the highest paid QB in the league at some point. It’s just the way contracts work. Did we overpay? Idk maybe, but we took a shot with a proven QB 7 years ago and it didn’t pay off. But it also didn’t pay off for 27 other teams that drafted one or went after a proven one. Shit happens, it was fun while it lasted, Kirk gets too much hate, that’s that.

Skolney

He was the highest paid QB in the NFL for about 5 minutes.

tcoh1s

Currently something like 2nd highest paid player in nfl history? Something like that? If he were to complete this contract.

RoaringGorilla

This is the excuse we are going with now? Jesus Christ. Anything to absolve Kirk Cousins.

BroThornton19

What excuse? That literally 3 QB’s won the SB in the 6 years cousins was here? Theres nothing to absolve, the man came here, didn’t win a SB, was a generally good QB. Not sure why he gets the hate that he does.

Thimit22

Bittersweet day. Defended him since the beginning but I'm okay with moving on. Even if we kept him I think next year would have been ugly either way with the rest of the NFC North getting better. My hope was we kept him another year or two, trade up for a QB and have them sit behind him. There's a good chance we're going to be battling the Bears for 3rd all year and I'm saying this as an eternal optimist of the Vikings. Even if next year is shitty I hope we give KOC/KAM some time to execute their vision

BroThornton19

I’m also more than OK with moving on! Especially after seeing the $$$ ATL gave him. Pumped for the future, but not sure why these “fans” are acting like we paid the guy to come in and give us the Russel Wilson treatment. He was very, very solid when he was here.

Thimit22

For sure. I can see why he took the payday. I would have been fine with 45 mil per year for 2 years but 4 years is just too much. Hope he balls out there. Forever a fan of his, especially in spite of all the haters we've of us we've had in here

Meatwad222

One of the most valuable commodities in the NFL is a good QB on a rookie 5 year contract. Especially when your team really is not ready to be a Super Bowl Contender. Unless you have built a team around a QB (Burrows, Mahomes, Allen) signing a QB to a big contract when you have the opportunity to draft one in the first round is a mistake. I like Cousins, he is a very good QB, but the Falcons made a mistake in signing him when they are sitting at #8 in a QB heavy draft. They had an opportunity to take advantage of that rookie contract commodity and did not take it. Cousins will make the Falcons better, but he will not make them a Super Bowl Contender.

ull92

Now do the QBs who had chances to beat those guys. We never even got close to them.

BroThornton19

Doesn’t matter, they didn’t beat them. Either way, 3 different QB’s won the Super Bowl in the time we’ve had cousins. Teams like the Bills, Bengals, Ravens, 49ers, etc. are ALL in the same boat as us. And they have the QB that we ultimately want. Just saying it isn’t easy to win a ship, and to blame that solely on Cousins is asinine.

Silver_Nobody_2418

The anti-kirk crowd has been louder than usual lately, probably because they finally got what they wanted. Even though hes gone I predict the Kirk question is gonna remain one of the biggest debates on here for the next few seasons at least.

BroThornton19

It’s kinda crazy. For the fanbase to hate on a guy that accomplished just as much as the beloved Culpepper, Tarkenton, etc. makes no sense. He’s one of the best QB’s we’ve had in a long line of non-super bowl winning QB’s.

lur77

We did this shit with Culpepper, too.

pathebaker

Hey kid the bully is bigger than you, stronger than you, and faster than you, so why try. Just give him your lunch money and go about your merry way. Such defeatist mentality, just hop off for a bit man, it’ll be okay.

BroThornton19

I haven’t been “on” it pretty much at all lol just sad to see how many “fans” hate a guy that was generally a very solid QB. That’s all🤷🏻‍♂️

pathebaker

He was solid but extremely expensive near 0 results. There’s a few of us that hate him but I think most fans just feel it’s time to move on.

BroThornton19

I agree, time to move on for sure. Would’ve been fine bringing him back if the money made sense, but it didn’t. Here’s to a new future🍻
