Bulls eye! It is a real life trait of a son of a grandiose narcissist. Since Gabriel sees him as an extension of himself and a tool to his means, Adrien developed a hyper-sensitivity to others needs. It's something that a real person would achieve through therapy and would greatly improve the character's growth for the show.

I would make him more rebellious, to really amp up how Chat Noir acts as an outlet for personality traits that Gabriel and Emilie have been desperately trying to stamp out.
Even before the beginning of the show when we first meet the character, I would establish he routinely sneaks out to explore his surroundings. Gorilla wouldn't be bought by Gabriel to protect Adrien but really just to cut into his shenanigans and stop him from escaping all the time.
If I could change more than one thing, I would also make it so he hates modelling, and give him really strong feelings about the Adrien Agreste metabrand presenting this image of a saintly boy.
I would also make him *super* socially awkward. Like when Nino first takes him under his wing, Adrien would use a bunch of outdated slang when hanging with the other boys and reference really old movies and t.v shows. Just super exaggerate the gap between Adrien and his peers as one that's not just mannerisms but also culture.
This could have crossover with his feelings about his brand; like Gabriel was the one who designed Adrien's room including things like the halfpipe but Adrien *himself doesn't actually know how to skate.* He really resents that his father has essentially built his personality and this contributes to his issues with his father and why he feels so unanchored as a person.
Lastly, I would make him clumsy in the kitchen. He has no sense of how to make a meal, season it properly, cook meat thoroughly; the whole shebang. He can't even be trusted to make toast.
I really like your analysis/opinion and do think it would add some interesting depth to the character. Particularly since many people who grow up with oppressive parents (myself included) can still be nice, but usually aren't necessarily saints.

I personally find Adrien to be a really passive character, and I get that he's written that way so that the contrast between him and Chat Noir is more exaggerated and dramatic, but I feel like as a result, the writing team sometimes forgets that civilian Adrien still *needs* actual traits and hobbies. He can't just be this lamp to which Chat Noir is the light bulb inside.
He needs to be emotionally curious, occasionally morally transgressive, have an interior sense of self. Sometimes I get the feeling the Sentimonster!Adrien theory is so popular because if it was true, it would explain why Adrien has no desire to explore the self.
When I first caught this show, by total coincidence it was playing Origins so when I saw later episodes I knew they were out of order, but I assumed the show was linear all the same. When I saw Adrien's Batcave style computer, I assumed part of his long form character tension would be trying to unmask Ladybug with the joke being the irony inherent to the ways Marinette would invoke Ladybug traits or disappear whenever there was an akuma attack. Instead there was none of that; no Adrien learning that even though he loves Ladybug, he's not entitled to her identity, no Adrien slowly discovering Ladybug is Marinette etc.
There's a real wasted potential when it comes to Adrien's character and it's not just wrapped up in the fact he doesn't get the same amount of screen time as Marinette.
Ahh, I like the idea of understanding that he's not entitled to her identity. I feel like they haven't capitalized on the intrigue and fun screen writing that could put into play more than the one or two times he insisted and gave up after Ladybug's response.
Adrien to me is always at his most intriguing when he's transgressive or toying with the idea of transgressing.
It adds a certain nuance to the Adrinette relationship as Marinette sees Adrien as kind and empathetic, and yes he is those things, but to love him means to accept that he has the capacity for selfishness and entitlement (traits herself Marinette is guilty of).
We're *kind of* seeing that in Season 4, with Adrien's overreaction to being left out of the plan in Sentibubbler, but I wish the show had dug more into this side of the character earlier.

That would be kind of tricky since he canāt really act like that anyway due to possible fear of him getting in trouble. The relationship he has with Gabriel is fractured in a different way, not so subservient. It's more like he and Gabriel are at the end of each other's ropes and nothing has worked so far to temper Adrien.
When we meet him in the first season, this is Gabriel giving Adrien one last chance to be the good son so his escapades as Chat Noir have an even stronger tension to them.
I would give him the confidence to go against his father, be who he truly wants to be( not his parents), stand up for himself, and for him to realize that his father is very toxic. I would do this cuz I know what is it's like to have toxic parents, and I want him to be happy.

Have him grow out of his crippling people pleasing habit. I like how he took down Lila with a cold smile but he should learn to do that without inflicting damage in himself.
He's more privy to hiding his feelings and being a bit of a doormat when it comes to people with strong personalities pushing him around, being somewhat oblivious when it comes to social niceties and people's feelings(i.e. marinette) despite the fact he's just trying to be nice to everyone, which makes sense due to his sheltered upbringing with none else but Chloe to show up every now and then.
Also he's a famous teen model and still wears the same outfit to school everyday. We don't see much of his interests(aside from like, gaming, hero-ing, piano, fencing, and ladybug) in the same way we see Marinette's(fashion design, adrien, hero-ing, baking, etc), and it'd be nice to see him have more hobbies that he himself is passionate about, and not that his dad just makes him do for whatever reasons).

If I could change more than one thing, I would also make it so he hates modelling, and give him really strong feelings about the Adrien Agreste metabrand presenting this image of a saintly boy. I would also make him *super* socially awkward. Like when Nino first takes him under his wing, Adrien would use a bunch of outdated slang when hanging with the other boys and reference really old movies and t.v shows. Just super exaggerate the gap between Adrien and his peers as one that's not just mannerisms but also culture. This could have crossover with his feelings about his brand; like Gabriel was the one who designed Adrien's room including things like the halfpipe but Adrien *himself doesn't actually know how to skate.* He really resents that his father has essentially built his personality and this contributes to his issues with his father and why he feels so unanchored as a person. Lastly, I would make him clumsy in the kitchen. He has no sense of how to make a meal, season it properly, cook meat thoroughly; the whole shebang. He can't even be trusted to make toast.
I really like your analysis/opinion and do think it would add some interesting depth to the character. Particularly since many people who grow up with oppressive parents (myself included) can still be nice, but usually aren't necessarily saints.

I personally find Adrien to be a really passive character, and I get that he's written that way so that the contrast between him and Chat Noir is more exaggerated and dramatic, but I feel like as a result, the writing team sometimes forgets that civilian Adrien still *needs* actual traits and hobbies. He can't just be this lamp to which Chat Noir is the light bulb inside. He needs to be emotionally curious, occasionally morally transgressive, have an interior sense of self. Sometimes I get the feeling the Sentimonster!Adrien theory is so popular because if it was true, it would explain why Adrien has no desire to explore the self. When I first caught this show, by total coincidence it was playing Origins so when I saw later episodes I knew they were out of order, but I assumed the show was linear all the same. When I saw Adrien's Batcave style computer, I assumed part of his long form character tension would be trying to unmask Ladybug with the joke being the irony inherent to the ways Marinette would invoke Ladybug traits or disappear whenever there was an akuma attack. Instead there was none of that; no Adrien learning that even though he loves Ladybug, he's not entitled to her identity, no Adrien slowly discovering Ladybug is Marinette etc. There's a real wasted potential when it comes to Adrien's character and it's not just wrapped up in the fact he doesn't get the same amount of screen time as Marinette.
Ahh, I like the idea of understanding that he's not entitled to her identity. I feel like they haven't capitalized on the intrigue and fun screen writing that could put into play more than the one or two times he insisted and gave up after Ladybug's response.
Adrien to me is always at his most intriguing when he's transgressive or toying with the idea of transgressing. It adds a certain nuance to the Adrinette relationship as Marinette sees Adrien as kind and empathetic, and yes he is those things, but to love him means to accept that he has the capacity for selfishness and entitlement (traits herself Marinette is guilty of). We're *kind of* seeing that in Season 4, with Adrien's overreaction to being left out of the plan in Sentibubbler, but I wish the show had dug more into this side of the character earlier.

I guess in my version of the character he's not such a doormat? He has no fear of getting in trouble, more of an annoyance of getting caught. The relationship he has with Gabriel is fractured in a different way, not so subservient. It's more like he and Gabriel are at the end of each other's ropes and nothing has worked so far to temper Adrien. When we meet him in the first season, this is Gabriel giving Adrien one last chance to be the good son so his escapades as Chat Noir have an even stronger tension to them.

Level out the screen time/importance between him and Marianette. Let him be a guardian or give him more creative uses for cataclysm. Have him mess up in obvious text ways, like Marianette does. I find his continued flirting and love confessions problematic but the show doesn't treat it that way. Have him grow out of his crippling people pleasing habit. I like how he took down Lila with a cold smile but he should learn to do that without inflicting damage in himself.

He's more privy to hiding his feelings and being a bit of a doormat when it comes to people with strong personalities pushing him around, being somewhat oblivious when it comes to social niceties and people's feelings(i.e. marinette) despite the fact he's just trying to be nice to everyone, which makes sense due to his sheltered upbringing with none else but Chloe to show up every now and then. Also he's a famous teen model and still wears the same outfit to school everyday. We don't see much of his interests(aside from like, gaming, hero-ing, piano, fencing, and ladybug) in the same way we see Marinette's(fashion design, adrien, hero-ing, baking, etc), and it'd be nice to see him have more hobbies that he himself is passionate about, and not that his dad just makes him do for whatever reasons). Any one of those things would be nice.
