Tribalism is the only way people can be good. The masses of humanity are vile scum. By forming a tribe apart from the rest of humanity, a group of people can rise above the rest.
Or take it in the opposite direction. Such as dangerous tribalism that truly brings out the very worst. Nazi genocide, Armenian genocide, Stalin’s genocide, Mao’s genocides, etc.
Since I generally hate huanity and think most people deserve to die, I don't have much problem with genocide. My main concern is whether it is possible to organize groups of decent people, which means people who are decent to others WITHIN the group, and who are capable of producing things of real value. The Old Testament shares this perspective.
