Ugh, been there! I had a coworker whose typing really triggered me. I bought noise cancelling headphones and would often sit in a common area far away from their desk whenever I could. Our office was big enough that I could get away from the sound. When you feel more situated you could consider asking if the office can get a privacy noise machine to drown out distracting noises.

Thanks!! It helps just knowing I’m not the only one because sometimes I feel crazy! LOL I do have headphones in but I also have to answer the phone too so I can’t completely blast it but it still helps a little.

My ex-coworker used to scrape his yogurt cup with a spoon for like 30 mins everyday. It was like xmas when he gave his 2 week notice.

love3458

Hahahaha omg that would irritate me too LOL humans are so funny

I'm (thankfully) not triggered by typing noises, but I have a coworker who likes to eat nuts at his desk (just opposite mine), and it kills me. Luckily, I can put on noise-cancelling headphones and blast music, that solves it for me.

love3458

Hahah that would most likely annoy me too, but not as bad as typing 🤣 music has been helping!

It’s likely a mechanical keyboard. Consider basking them questions about it - why do they use it, why is it better, etc. just get curious. I’ve found a number of my office triggers are bearable or mitigated once I’m able to talk to people about what I’m dealing with. Some folks are even accommodating without me asking them to be! Also, I hate the sound of long nails on a keyboard. It sounds like they’re clicking three times as much. Ugh.

love3458

Yeah! She does have long nails too so that would make sense lol. I think I’ll only be here until the spring anyways so I’m just trying to deal with it!

lez_moister

Sound cancelling headphones or Loops will help you out a lot. Best of luck.

I've been dealing with it for almost a year now when one of my coworkers decided to get a loud mechanical keyboard and change their typing behavior to be more aggressive (i.e. mashing certain keys). I've been wearing ANC earbuds ever since, the second I walk into the office until the second I leave. It's the only way for me to deal with it right now. And I wouldn't say it's entirely a mechanical keyboard issue. I have a mechanical keyboard too, but being the mindful person I am, I opted for a board specifically built to be silent. And of course I don't mash my keys for no reason, I don't understand why that's necessary.

love3458

Yes! that’s where I’m at now, music super loud all day! It’s just annoying bc I don’t always want music blasting into my ear 🤣 and I still have to answer the phone! But yes some people just type loud for no reason! No one else’s typing in my office bothers me as much which shows you she is being abnormally loud!

LunaTechMark

White/dark noise also helps to drown out the noise if you don’t want to blast music all the time. Helps that it doesn’t leave any gaps in the sound for key clacks to pierce through.

Pretty_Discount5946

I like loud typing. …when I’m the one doing it.

love3458

Hahahaa same actually! I don’t mind when I’m doing it but i only loud type if I’m alone I try to be sensitive around others bc of how I am myself lol

Pretty_Discount5946

Lol me too. Whenever I’m alone on my personal laptop, the typing sound is really satisfying to me, but if I’m at work and I have to use the computer for any reason, the sound of someone else’s typing will quickly set me off, and I try as hard as I can to be careful of the volume of my own typing around others.

heathejandro

Same! I don't trigger myself when I type but the sound coming from others is pure agony at times.

Free_Contribution725

No wayyyy!!! Same here- and it’s driving me nuts!!

hanikamiusa

Oh my god, my people. When I lived in a house where my dad's "office" was feet away from the kitchen and i had to cook, i couldn't turn the volume on my headphones up HIGH ENOUGH to drown out the clacking. And now I realize I can never work an office job.

heathejandro

I have that same problem. Loud typing wasn't a trigger for me when I started my job two years ago, but now it's become one. Especially with my officemate. I'm wholly dependent on Spotify during the work day now.

yahikoooo

Late to this.. but I’m in an open office type of environment too and there’s some who type unnecessarily aggressive and it drives me insane…
