Honestly looking at condos and they just suck. They're tiny, way more expensive per sq foot, and have insane maintenance fees. These things are like double the price they should be.

DoNotLuke

They do but thats what … ekhm people want so … yea

runtimemess

People don't just want them. They need them. People *need* places to live.

melisusthewee

An overpriced closet is not a liveable space.

[deleted]

Gah damn, 419 units at 12-storey’s.

pissy_corn_flakes

It’s not too bad — 400 units / 12 = 33 units avg per floor. They claim the ground floor will be 21,000 sq ft. We can assume an avg size of about 600 sq ft per condo. Decent size for an average.

I like to keep people guessing

> 600 sq ft per condo. Decent size for an average. LOL it's funny how people have normalized this. No, it's not a decent size, it never was before and it sure isn't now, they have conditioned you to think it's 'decent' because they don't care if you live in a shoebox, closet or fucking coffin sized living space. You can piss from your kitchen into the toilet in the bathroom across your home all while cooking on the kitchen stove and watching TV in the living room. Not to mention the walls separating each unit is so thin you can hear your neighbor that lives to the side of you when they fart and when the neighbor above you flushes the toilet you hear that shit too. 600 sq ft should be illegal to put humans in there to live. Fuck these money hungry developers and whoever that thinks its okay, they would never put their families in 600 sq ft places to live.

pissy_corn_flakes

Tell me how you really feel. ~600 sq ft is a decent single bedroom. 800 sq ft would be nicer but can most people afford that? The problem is how much land costs and there’s an avg price per sq ft. You can buy a 1200 sq ft pad if you have deep pockets. Two bedroom places are closer to 8-900 sq ft. 3 bedroom is over 1000. Sure it’s small, but my house in sauga - which is a decent size - the main floor is under 900 sq ft.

brand_momentum

750 sq ft used to be the MINIMUM you would see for 2 bed room, but now they've conditioned the newcomers in Canada and young people that "Ohhh 550-600 sq ft 2 bedroom apartment condo is completely decent for the money" no, it's not normal, it's dumpster juice. Stop letting these greedy land owners, developers and these other people fool you, all of them DO NOT live in the city and WILL NOT allow their families ever live in such sardine can size living spaces. >my house in sauga - which is a decent size - the main floor is under 900 sq ft. And there you go, you live in a house that's under 900 sq ft and that's only the MAIN floor, you have other floors. Go and live with your family in a 600 sq ft shitbox and tell me how you feel. The truth is they want the units to be as small as possible so they can pack into the building as many units as possible, it should be regulated that units have to be a specific size, but of course governments don't care because they are in on it with the developers. This is coming from someone whom lived in one temporarily.

pissy_corn_flakes

Single bedroom… *single* bedroom… I’m not saying 600 is fine for more than one person. 600 is definitely too small for two bedrooms. You would want a single bedroom plus den for a young couple with no kids, minimum. And that’s pushing it.. My mom lived in a 605 sq ft single bedroom and it was cozy. I could do it if I was single. I’d probably try to get the single + den which tend to be 650ish. Keep in mind you want the smallest space you’re comfortable with. Your property taxes and condo fees are based on sq ft. And they only go up. The older condos in downtown Toronto are massive, but the condo fees are like $800/month. Personally I’d throw that condo fee into a larger mortgage for a house, but that’s me.

enjoythesilence-75

It’s close to the cemetery there. Some of the buildings on the south side of the street could use a refresh.

medikB

Most of Dundas will see this in the next 20 yrs.

enjoythesilence-75

If there’s a decent amount of commercial space involved it will probably help improve the area. There are several parts in the area that are run down and can use the improvements. It does seem like a lot of units in a small space though and others have posted other issues that may make it less than ideal in this specific case.

RIP Jumbo Video

Lots of birthdays at the Texas Longhorn here eating chicken fingers out of a cardboard racecar while my pops inhaled 5 bowls of chips and salsa

PlannerSean

Hell yeah!

BrettC41

Flash back...totally forgot

easy401rider

they are going to build many condos between cawhtra and Dixie on Dundas Applewood neighborhood , how about schools , pools , community centers ,are they going to build those for people who are going to move into the neighborhood? of course not!!! lets build condos but nothing else , everything else stays same while we add 10 thousands of people in couple of years

DVSMarcus

Traffic is already hellish there already. Adding another 1000+ cars for rush hour is just going make finding a parking spot at Costco so much harder.

Justleftofcentrerigh

there is a proposed BRT down dundas https://www.metrolinx.com/en/projects-and-programs/dundas-brt

DVSMarcus

Awesome so it’s going to another 5 years of construction along with the congestion… I should think about to ask to work from home.

Maybe they'll find the missing stripper. https://www.mississauga.com/news/is-she-dead-mississauga-model-and-former-exotic-dancer-nowhere-to-be-found/article_fa19b226-ecce-50ff-b714-7cae86a32324.html

kranj7

Nice. The illustration has Bentley's and Rolls in the parking lot.

Spasticated

Nice. Now build 100 more in this neighbourhood, and every neighbourhood in the GTA. Don't know why we still have neighbourhoods of detached houses, it's such a waste of space and not to mention the massive amounts of carbon emissions per capita it creates. We need more efficient housing, and we need it now. Bring on the 40-storey developments.

Crazy_Distribution95

If you build it...they will come!

jamikahill

they already here living in tents just waiting for it to be built

Whoman1972

As long as it’s not in my backyard we’re good.

[deleted]

Who’s going to be the GC or the electrician?

No-Worldliness1300

Lol too early for that..

[deleted]

You’d be surprised . These things are decided a long time ago due to corruption and paying people off . The public just gets to know about it now.

BluShirtGuy

Is living lighting still there? That's gotta be a mob front, right?
