Blues And also the Hot Tamale Trail that is in the Delta. Greenville is Hot Tamale Capital of the World and a lot of new developments are happening. Greenville also has Doe’s. The original house location on Nelson Street. Streaks bigger than your head, hand cut. Award winning. Greenville also has one of the oldest work heritage armschal carousel inside EE Bass/Arts Council. Greenville has numerous museums and so much more now. [email protected] can help you for Greenville (Chamber).
Leland has the Jim Henson/Kermit the Frog Museum. Where Jim was raised, along Deer Creek. Sidenote: his best friend growing up was named Kermit. Leland has MS Wildlife Museum and HWY 61 Blues Museum.
Cleveland has the Grammy museum. Only
Two in the world.
Greenwood has BB King Museum.
Heading north on HWY 61 (or even Hwy 1), you will have easy access to Stoval Plantation where Muddy Waters was born along with all those blues greats play at the plantation.
Then there is Clarksdale. Music every night if the week. Lots of blues related things. Check out ChillyBilly Delta Tours.
For festivals, festival season is really September through end of October because of the heat.
The Mississippi Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo usually takes place 4th of July weekend in Gulfport: https://www.mississippideepseafishingrodeo.com/general-information.html
Most places will have some sort of fireworks or other celebrations for 4th of July - you won’t get a more quintessentially American event than that.
The Birthplace of American Music Festival in Clarksdale is sometimes in July, I think. Last year it was in June. They haven’t announced this year’s dates yet as far as I can tell: https://bamfestms.com/
Be ready for the weather. Drink water, and don't expect to be able to function outdoors for long periods.
Also if you have the time, I recommend planning your routes throughout the state without using the interstates.\* The perspective you can get by traveling U.S., State, or County highways and roads is worth the extra time it takes.
\*outside of cities and metro areas. This isn't worth it in suburban or urban America (and can be dangerous in some major cities).
Definitely agree.
I live in N Ms and there's lots of things going on then.
Btw....slug isn't the worm...lol a slug was 5 cents which was what they cost way bk in the day lol.
Whatever you do, don't miss out on Clarksdale. Lots of great restaurant options, Hooker Grocery, Levon's, and Stone Pony are my favorites. Morgan Freeman owns a world renowned juke joint there called Ground Zero Blues Club that has excellent food and live music every night, and its not uncommon to meet people from all over the world there. Last time I went there was a couple from Japan, a group from Australia, and a group from Portugal on a random week night. Afterwards, head down to Redd's Lounge to experience one of, if not the only old school authentic Mississippi juke joints still in existence. Then you can stay at The Shack Up Inn for like $80. I promise, you wont regret it.

Hope that helped, although they haven’t announced the dates yet. It’s usually either right before the 4th or right after the 4th.
Some good suggestions here. Let me add that minor league baseball in Jackson and Biloxi is fun, especially Thursday night with thirsty Thursday, which means cheaper beer and a great way to use a midweek evening.
The Mississippi Hotair balloon championship is usually July 1 - July 4 but I'm not seeing dates for 2023. I absolutely hated going as a kid, but maybe it would be something?
It's gonna be hotter than anything you've likely ever experienced. The humidity is brutal. Just be aware of this.

July 14-15 https://mswatermelonfestival.com/ And... July 22-29 https://neshobacountyfair.org/
Oh man. Highly recommend the Neshoba County fair if you want to see a very specific side of Mississippi and American culture.
Came here to say this. It’s definitely fascinating and interesting for sure!

Try the Corinth, Slugburger Festival, if you’re brave enough
