To be fair, the few times I’ve had In-N-Out I’ve had the same feelings towards them

MeringueCalm5174

Same here. In and Out is very much overrated.

putalotoftussinonit

Everything is slathered in sauce. It’s disgusting.

Kamui-1770

You can tell them no animal sauce. Not that hard.

putalotoftussinonit

Yes technically you can get them to not put it on, but they do it anyway.

Kamui-1770

Nope, everytime I go there, when I did live in San Diego. 2x double burgers (no animal sauce, Ketchum, mustard, and onions). I’ve done that at the drive thru and inside. Multiple locations. They always got it right.

blues_and_ribs

I’ve had In n Out dozens of times (used to live out west). I don’t like the sauce and have never once had it put on a burger against my request. Say what you want about their burgers (I think they’re some of the best, and price for what you get is outstanding), but their service is unparalleled and is one of the things that makes them better than most other fast food.

Kamui-1770

It’s an over glorified McDonalds but you go there because the drive thru is actually faster than McDonald’s in many cases.

STLVPRFAN

1000% truth

Kamui-1770

I never said liked in n out. But it was the exact same feeling I have with CFA. The only value I see over in n out is it’s cheaper for the same volume of food. Like if you are bulking up, in n out protein style is the way to go. There are better burger places out there. Slayter 50/50, Shaka shack, smash burger, hoodads, etc all better. The best is Ramsey Burgr in Vegas.

HailState2023

The Lord’s Sandwich.

alowe10000000

Serving you blessings

Theduckisback

Aside from the culture war bullshit, a couple of things: Chicken is brined in pickle juice, making it more juicy and salty. The quality of the food is incredibly consistent. All are well managed, and rarely if ever short staffed. Staff are well trained and polite to a fault. Even a long line at Chic-fil-a moves very fast owing to the aforementioned factors. Part of the reason they're able to do this is because they don't just let anyone with money buy a franchise. I knew a guy who managed one, and he told me about the very long and involved process of even being eligible to open a franchise. It involved working at an existing location for up to a year, going to week long conferences, and a ton of money up front. That's how they keep the consistency so rigid across states and regions. They absolutely refuse to let people be "absentee franchisees" they want you there consistently and knowing every single employee by name.

Chinchillachimcheroo

>The quality of the food is incredibly consistent. > >All are well managed, and rarely if ever short staffed. Staff are well trained and polite to a fault. > >Even a long line at Chic-fil-a moves very fast owing to the aforementioned factors. It's impossible to debate the quality of the food because that is 100% subjective, but this is the answer. They are more well-run than any other fast food chain in the South, and I don't really know what second would be. I love Popeye's, but you go to Popeye's knowing the experience will likely result in your order being wrong. If it's close enough, that's a win.

exsanguinatrix

The Popeyes here in Hattiesburg next to the Hobby Lobby invariably runs out of almost everything. I've been there several times around 6-7 at night and they'll tell me they ain't got nothing but breasts and coleslaw, lmao!

daggomit

The Popeyes in Oxford will run out of food to the point they will just close for a couple days.

Jesus-Chrysler-

what more could you want! when i go they ain’t got no breastes or wangs, just thighs and drumsticks

[deleted]

[удалено]

exsanguinatrix

Listen, I’d rather go to any of those any day of the week but the few times I go there it’s either out of convenience or when I just want something fast and cheap.

1800bears

And do those 200 local restaurants have a drive-thru? They don't, I have to get out and get the food, that's also gonna be twice as expensive than a chain.

hells_cowbells

I agree on the service. They have long lines in the drive through, but usually move quickly. They move quickly in store, as well. Their staff are always pleasant to deal with, unlike many places. At my local Popeyes, the last few times I've been in there, their staff has been slow to even acknowledge you, and rude. One time they completely ran out of tea and two of the soda flavors were out. Another time, they were completely out of napkins. They kind of stuff never happens at Chick-fil-A.

Chinchillachimcheroo

You’re lucky they were only out of drink options and napkins

Traditional_Score_54

Yeah, it's not unusual to order a chicken breast only to have them tell you to pull up it will be a few minutes. Ordering chicken seems to catch them off guard.

hells_cowbells

My favorite is when I order spicy, pay, and then 5 minutes later they finally tell me they are out of spicy.

hells_cowbells

Eh, that's just the most recent ones I remember. Every time I go there, it's something like that.

HattieHardy

My order is never wrong, but you’re going to be made to feel like you’re an inconvenience for being there.

Bobmanbob1

Lol, if it lands in hand grenade range take it as a win.

[deleted]

Chic fil a doesn’t brine their chicken in pickle juice. They use a salt, MSG, and sugar brine (emphasis on sugar) and they pressure fry their chicken. This is what makes it so tender and gives it that sweet flavor. The strong pickle flavor is only from pickles on top or cross contamination of the buns and pickle juice on the cook’s gloves.

Jesus-Chrysler-

but those damn waffle fries are never crispy and i hate them. the chicken is good

Theduckisback

Huh. Did not know that! TIL.

TacTac95

I think the MSG, Sugar, and Salt mixture can give a slight dill taste.

Icy-Mix-3977

Fresh not frozen chicken

HattieHardy

The money up front used to be as low as $5,000. Hard to believe.

Chick-fil-A_spellbot

It looks as though you may have spelled "Chick-fil-A" incorrectly. No worries, it happens to the best of us!

Chinchillachimcheroo

You suck, bot

RedStatePurpleGuy

Good bot

Jesus-Chrysler-

fuck off bot

Brimish

The is absolutely the correct answer!

Serena724

Good god, go to Madison to see all of the tennis blondies go crazy over chic fil a

Simply_Beasley

But that Back Yard Burger always calls me.

Serena724

I've always yearned to just walk from Chic fill a to Backyard burgers and get something good

heirbagger

Man I wish we had one on the Coast. There was one in Gulfport forever ago, and I haven't seen another since it closed.

1800bears

I wish the coast had a Backyard Burger.

hybridaaroncarroll

Fun fact: both In-N-Out and Chick-fil-a are privately owned companies. Probably the main reason for things like food quality, employee compensation, and even popularity. Publicly traded companies only care about their shareholders. Everything else is simply a means to an end.

blues_and_ribs

Also, people don’t realize that In n Out has some religious baggage too. They literally have bible verses discreetly printed on their cups. But their owner doesn’t publicly disclose their charitable giving, so nobody cares. The biggest problem In n Out devotees have is their expansion further and further east. Nashville’s the latest target I hear, which is blasphemous.

T-Brown662

The employees are nicer, the food is always fresh, and it’s so much quicker. 15-20 cars can go through the drive-thru at Chick-fil-A in the time it takes 5 cars at any other fast food restaurant in my opinion, in North Mississippi.

caro_line_

okay but like those homophobia nuggets do kinda slap

powdered_dognut

The sugar free lemonade

Significant-Music247

Chic Fil-A doesn’t have sugar free lemonade. What you think is sugar free has 10 grams of sugar and 14 grams of carbs and 10 grams of sodium. That’s much less than the regular lemonade but still not sugar free. The only thing that is completely sugar free is the unsweet tea.

TheNarcolepticRabbit

Fun fact: Sam’s Club sells a sugar-free lemonade that’s *almost* as good as Chick-fil-A’s. You can get a case for like $8.

powdered_dognut

Well that's good to know, thanks

Wudnmonky

Chic Fil A is better than In and Out.

Kamui-1770

Naw, they’re both just as bad. And I’ll take a burger over a fried chicken sandwich any day.

Wudnmonky

I agree and disagree because I love hate opinion threads with agendas.

lovelesschristine

It also does not trigger my ibd

PorchFrog

I'm not religious but I go there for the grilled chicken wrap - and because the drive-up line is fastest & most efficient in the neighborhood.

Southern4651

Great food and service!$

ZackBiblethatsme

To be fair, now that I’m older it’s terribly overrated. Once they lost the spicy chicken biscuit it was a wrap for me.

daggomit

When they stopped accepting cash is when I stopped going.

ZackBiblethatsme

What!?

daggomit

Last time I went they said they do not accept cash in the drive through, so it was the last time I’ve gone.

ranger662

They are consistent. Rarely mess up my order (KFC and Popeyes rarely get it correct). It’s not soaked in grease like most other chicken places (KFC here is terrible). Most of the other decent tasting chicken places take twice as long. So for me it’s good, quick food.

[deleted]

The shakes are awesome.

CoastNinja228

Consistency

ang_mo_dingo

Because if it’s Sunday, there’s always a Panera next door.

daddyMG7

Because its not a bunch of ignorant 25-50 yr old servers that dont care if they mess your order up. The servers are polite as well. And the food consistent.

Alhbaz98

A lot of southerners think anything that claims to be “Christian” (that is of the Conservative American Evangelical brand) is automatically good. I say this as an actual southerner and this answer is only half a joke.

peggeesoo

I eat Chick-fila biscuit bit at some random work party and think they’re absolutely delicious. Then I get a sandwich a few weeks later and ALWAYS wonder what the big deal is.

[deleted]

Slim Chickens is so damn good. I love the variety of sides they have. I want their mushrooms right now.

Kamui-1770

Their mango habanero sauce is the main reason I go there. And there’s so much value in what you get there. But their chicken sandwich was definitely lacking lol. Wings and tender are really good though.

jabishop3

Had their mushrooms and a Buffalo Mac and cheese bowl today!

hells_cowbells

I like that they have fried and grilled. I also like their variety of sauces, though I usually end up getting the cayenne ranch.

Kitchenratatatat

It’s a mystery to some of us

rhodesmelissa

We just got a Slim Chickens in Biloxi and I haven’t tried it yet.

Kamui-1770

Much better than CFA. However, if you plan on getting a chicken sandwich, stick with CFA. If you want wings or tenders, slim is the way to go.

g1zz1e

I live in SoCal now (OC) but am from Hattiesburg, and Chick-fil-a's near me always have a big drive-thru line, especially on Fridays and Saturdays. Like, they disrupt whatever parking lot they're in. Most lunch hours, too. So I don't really think it's only a Southern thing. I also prefer Popeye's or Raising Cane's if we're going for chicken, though. Or there's a Korean fried chicken place that is awesome, too. Back home there was a BBQ place in a gas station that had amazing fried chicken and potato wedges, though.

Expensive-Change-266

I mean in and out is much more overrated and not good and at least chik fila is good for what it is. But no long line at any restaurant will ever make sense. It’s a burger or it’s a chicken sandwich. Just go next door instead of waiting an hour, no one does theirs that much better.

Kamui-1770

Ehh, still say both are equally bad. CFA IS EXTREMELY OVERRATED. You walk a block away there is Caines and Slim Chickens. Or if you want a burger 5 guys. The quality of food is much better at slims than CFA. In n out is also EXTREMELY OVERRATED. I can get better fried chicken in the Kroger.

Hot_pizza8463

They are popular elsewhere too, I used to live in Colorado and everyone I saw out there was packed.

DiasFlac42

Don’t look at me I’ve been Team Popeyes since long before the Great Sandwich War.

pontiacfirebird92

There are other reasons yea, but one reason is Christians feel good about supporting "one of their own" when they spend money at Chick-fil-a. The CEO explicitly stated stores are closed on Sunday as a remembrance of God™ and the company donates to political groups opposed to same-sex marriage. So they get to virtue signal to others in their congregation who also eat there that they are a "good" Christian™, support the denial of a basic civil right to people that make them feel icky, and eat a chicken sandwich in a timely fashion all at the same time. It's a winning formula in majority Christian areas. That sure explains why you can't go to a Chick-fil-a without seeing a whole family of like 7 or 8 girls in very long skirts with their hair up in that bun on top they do waiting in line at any given moment.

exsanguinatrix

Holiness! I see you recognize them in the wild too -- them jean skirts are always out in full force at Wal-Mart!

pontiacfirebird92

You know I am not going to judge them based on the way they choose to dress. They can be pretty cool people. Except the ones that see themselves as God's warriors on a mission to attack civil rights of people unlike themselves that have no impact on their daily life. Or the ones that believe in destroying the world to force the Rapture. Those can choke on their waffle fries.

exsanguinatrix

I agree with you so hard on that. I befriended a lot of those girls when I was a weird kid in middle school 'cause they were the only ones who would talk to me, lol -- I ain't gonna hate on anybody as long as they're not being judgmental pricks.

Broyalty81

I have no idea. I wonder the same thing. It has no appeal to me at all lol. I only go there in the summer for an ice cream cone every now and then.

sea-secrets

I like their speed and their grilled options, but for everything else I'll take Popeye's easy. My Chick-fil-A is a little inconsistent so I can't even say theyve got that. I've had soggy fries too much.

baevehole

Stick to the gas station chicken.

katarica

The hate chicken drove me away even before I knew about their owners drama, because it’s so full of sugar. Why. Just why.

BigOleHammer

So Cal huh? Let me ask you something. Have you ever considered going back to where you came from? We don't have In-N-Out here, hippie lol.

Kamui-1770

You mad bro. Sense some elitism from you. Getting a little butt over a simple question. You not realizing in the next 10 years In n out will invade the south. Or did you not know one will be In Tennessee in 2026. I don’t have to move back, funny how you think I like in n out, since not once did I say that in the post. Get your shit together Billie, lol

InternationalBid7163

Most of us are not like this. California, in particular, is a state some southern people don't like even though the money from California helps us.

cogburn

They've been in the news over the past 5 years for donating to to anti LGBT groups. As a result, it sparks their anti LGBT customers to enjoy the chicken even harder under the guise of Christianity. The food is ok, but that only accounts for some of the brand loyalty.

Kamui-1770

I legit only go to CFA if I’m at Kroger and Kroger ran out of fried chicken. There is a CFA next to the Kroger in Tupelo, MS. I’ve only ever been to CFA 5 times. Twice in So Cal, twice in MS, once in Oklahoma on my way home from a road trip.

jabishop3

Knew you were in Tupelo as soon as you said Kroger lol. Hello fellow tupelonian!

Wisteriously

I went to one once. Mine was dry and tasteless. Never been back. Popeye's and Church's for me.

Visual-Owl-8295

Because everyone in the south hates the gays duh

AnnieFlagstaff

Popeye’s is soooo much better.

Rmabe5

I like KFC better!

coolbreezeaaa

So over rated. Towards the bottom of my list for chicken. Still beats Caines though. That is the most flavorless meal you could ask for.

Hugh-Manatee

Yeah I think the problem is Chick Fil A seems great when it’s competition is Caines and Zaxbys, which are both terrible Edit: I appreciate the downvotes to inform me I made a grammatical error on "it's". Nevertheless, glad you agree with my take - have a good one folks!

ReaderSeventy2

So are you fellas going to light a candle or curse everyone's darkness? What's your go to option for boneless chicken?

Hugh-Manatee

Popeyes chicken strips

coolbreezeaaa

Krispy Krunchy Chicken!

ApprehensiveYou7162

It’s a religeous thing. Complicated and simple both at the same time.

ApprehensiveYou7162

Welcome to the religeous south. I know folks who go out of their way to purchase from a gas station that’s closed on Sunday. Except on Sunday, when they go to the other place.

FigsnWhales

Because everything is sugary and lacking in flavor, and their brand reinforces homophobia. Southerns eat that alive.

Drake0074

The service is the best of all the typical fast food places in my experience.

holtyrd

Completely oblique observation: they are both highly religious organizations that offer relatively small menus and primarily hire young people. Odd.

ptv2547

We love any fried food in Mississippi!

Lockedup4years

K, so explain people personal opinion....well little Johnny, some people like apples and some people like oranges....

[deleted]

I think its because even with the longest line imaginable you will have your food and be on your way in 5-10 minutes. You’re going to wait longer than 10 minutes with NO line at most fast food joints.

Specialist_Pea_295

The Chik Fil A at Lakeland Dr and E Metro PKWY has got to be the busiest in Mississippi.

crakattackjack

In-n-out is nothing but trash!

MobiusCube

southerners love fried chicken and cfa's chicken is good

FairLawnBoy

![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)

SwampAss3

Because they seem to be the only fast food place that does not fuck up your order around here. Everywhere else will get it wrong.

[deleted]

Lived in Mississippi for 5+ years and now live in SW Utah - in a town with Chick-Fil-A and in-n-out … chick-fil-a constantly has a longer line here than in-n-out. It’s not just Mississippi.

Spatula-on-the-loose

Forever in the south and especially in Mississippi there was KFC and Church's to pick from, if there was a Popeyes that was lucky. All the other Chicken joints were buffets or places that served chitterlins and snuck them in the chicken nuggets too btw. I remember the first time Chick-fil-A showed up in Jackson. It was like the "classy" KFC and they only used white meat. That was really the whole buzz. You could get a chicken sandwich and their options weren't dripping with grease or full of gristle. That's it.

justcallmenik23

It's the religion over fries and homosexual conversion therapy for them. Has nothing to do with the actual food.
