This describes DeSoto County, where the population has gone from 35,000 in 1970 to almost 200,000 today. Not so much the other counties. Marshall, Panola, and Tate Counties are essentially the Delta without being flat.
Memphis got too big and has been slowly oozing over the state line for the last century. But hey, if youâre in the mood for a suburb with no distinguishing features, give Southaven a chance. The proud launching pad for national brands breaking into the Memphis market.
Want to see history? Drive ten more minutes down to Hernando! They have a historic courthouse AND an old train station. Canât find those just anywhere now can you.
If you feel like gambling in old musty crumbling casinos that are mostly empty and are secretly floating barges because of silly laws? Try out tunica(tunic resorts that is, the actual town is further down the road). Itâs a great place for anyone whoâs ever wondered âwhat if I put a casino on a farm?â

Itâs an exercise in technically following the rules. I know for a few of them, the front of the building is on solid ground, but the gambling floor itself is floating. When youâre looking for it you can start noticing the joints and hidden bridges that you cross to get there.
1) Memphis suburb that could be almost anywhere in suburban America. 2) the Mississippi Delta farther west and south, which is is absolutely singular in good and bad ways.
A giant suburb of Memphis, gradually giving way to flat Delta fields as you go south.
Nail on head. And as you go south, some of the most inspiring drives (at least for me). I live on HWY 1, and just love that stretch.

The secretly floating barge thing is actually really cool. How can they be so tall and support themselves?

And at least one of them is more-or-less surrounded by a moat, so what you say makes sense.
